Lore/World Discussion Medical Withdrawal?

My class at school is reading Catching Fire and I missed my class reading the first book because I switched to my school in the middle of the year. I’m watching the first movie as I type this out and I thought about my m who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 10. So my question is what would happen if my mom were chosen or a kid at my school (I go to a neurodivergent school and I’m not trying to be rude when I say this but some of the kids are ‘very special’.) So what would happen if someone who is physically and/or mentally unable to compete in the games is chosen?

Would they be withdrawn from the reaping and chose someone else or would they be thrown in to die?

Also this is my first time watching/reading The Hunger Games series

Memes/Fun posts The Shadow's House manga and Hunger Games crossover

I'm Brazilian and I'm right now reading the Shadow's House manga. I just read this chapter and found this character's lines, I thought that line was really cool. It made me think if the famous line "May the odds be ever in your favor" is not an original thing from Hunger Games instead of that, it's a common saying, so is it?

Trilogy Discussion The hungers games- chapter 9

My thoughts on Chapter 188 and Chapter 9

I'm currently reading The Hunger Games, and I wanted to share my thoughts on two moments that surprised me.

PAGE 138

The passage about how people in the Capitol want to look younger and thinner, while people in District 12 see old age as an achievement and being overweight as a sign of having enough food, really made me think.

It made me realize how much our way of thinking about things can change depending on our circumstances. Something that is considered beautiful or desirable in one place can mean something completely different in another.

I think this is really interesting because it reflects something that happens in our everyday lives, too. Society often decides what is considered beautiful, successful, or desirable based on the situation people live in. It makes you wonder how much of what we believe is actually our own opinion and how much is influenced by the world around us.

Chapter 9

I was also surprised when Peeta said that he didn't want to train with Katniss. I didn't expect that, and it made me curious about their relationship and what might happen between them.

I'm really enjoying the book so far, and I'd love to hear what other readers think about these moments!

🐍TBOSAS As an european the ballad of songbirds and snakes is unwatchable Spoiler

Just that for me as an european (where musicals are not really a thing) that movie is unwatchable, I stopped watching when the first song came on.
For backround: yes some corny theatres buy in american musicals like Mamma Mia etc, but no respectable actor plays in them and no respectable theatre shows them. In schools that have theatre classes, they do drama, muscial is seen as a purley commercial thing, basically the same level as an advertisment. It is not seen as a form of art really but something made for mindless consuming for people who really don't care about the content and just want to be entertained. And yet it's still not popular, for kids maybe the most, but even for kids it's mostly drama.
The fact that this movie is a muscal, made it unwatchable for me - I just couldn't take it seriously..couldn't understand for who was it meant? For children? what came to mind was disney animated movies, but the content of this movie is not for children, so..for who?! I just can't understand the choice to make a normal movie into a muscal and ruin any belivebiliy and quality it had..
A movie can have people singing inside of a scene, there can be a lot of music, but it doesnt have to be a f*ing musical...
Anyways, I'm happy the new one is not, so I can actually watch it.
What do you think, especially ppl who are not from the US and not accostumed to muscals?

Trilogy Discussion Gale refusing financial help from Katniss

I’ve always been confused about why Gale was willing to go so far in his refusal to take money from Katniss in Catching Fire. Also I want to say, this is no hate to Gale.

He’s working 6 days a week and his family still struggles with food insecurity. I understand Gale is stubborn and too proud to take money from the capital (through Katniss). I can believe he would refuse her help, to a point. It became unbelievable when Katniss says that Gale’s little brother, Rory, has signed up for tesserae.

I don’t believe his character would put his siblings’ lives in direct danger this way. Especially when it’s completely unnecessary. Katniss even says in the same sentence that Rory signing up for tesserae is something “Gale can’t even speak about.” His pride can’t possibly be worth more to him than the protection of his family.

Sunrise on the Reaping Thoughts on Black Stars by SP? Spoiler

I guess I'm just failing to see the relation between the song and SotR. I'm not one that thinks every soundtrack song has to be Can't Catch Me Now in terms of 1:1 symbolism, but with most of the previous soundtracks, you can at least piece together a general theme that ties back to the movie it's for. Black Stars (while not a bad song, I don't think) just... doesn't really feel connected to the story in any way? I've gone over the lyrics a few times now, and maybe it's just too abstract for me to see.

I would love to hear other opinions/analysis on the song!

Sunrise on the Reaping Sunrise On The Reaping TICKETS and FORMATS REVEALED Spoiler

Post image
19 Upvotes

(NOTE THAT THE PAGE DOES NOT WORK TO ACTUALLY BUY THEM, BUT THE THEATERS ALREADY HAVE IT READY) On Google, they already have posted showtimes and dates for early access tickets. Also, I’m guessing we’re going to get one final trailer with the phrase “Get Tickets Now” since every movie does that. SO NEW CONTENT!! We’re one month away from the movie, so it’s reasonable for them to drop it next week.

Confirmed PLF Formats:

IMAX
Dolby Cinema
PRIME at AMC
SCREENX (first in franchise)

This means that they are definitely dropping sometime next week, along with the main movie tickets because I’ve never seen a movie drop early access and main tickets separately. My guess is Monday or Tuesday!!!

Trilogy Discussion Why did Katniss decide to die after thinking of her mother?

I chapter 27 she thinks “having, yet again, to say my final goodbyes to the handful of people who still maintain a hold on my heart. The prospect of facing my mother, who will now be entirely alone in the world, decides it.”

Is she saying if she didn’t take the pill, she would have to look at her mother as she herself is tried and executed, thus leaving her alone anyway? So it’s better to take the pill and do it herself? Regardless, her mother would’ve been alone in the end anyway, no? Why did thinking of her mother help her decide to go?

Sunrise on the Reaping “It’s so lovely to be home.” Back in Sydney to promote The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, Joseph Zada reflects on returning home and spending time with his family and friends.

"It's so lovely to be home."
Back in Sydney to promote The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, Joseph Zada reflects on returning home and spending time with his family and friends.
Joseph recalls being at Bondi Junction when he first saw a huge display for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire inside the shopping centre, before begging his mum to take him to see the film. Years later, he has returned to Australia as the actor bringing young Haymitch Abernathy to the screen.
He also speaks warmly about the support he has received at home, sharing that Australians are incredibly supportive of their own and describing the country as a beautiful, blissful and special place.

Lore/World Discussion I’m Blind… can someone explain to me the canon map of Panem?

What it says on the tin. I am blind, but have been told there are some canon regions that the districts fall into and cover. Would someone be willing to explain some it to me, like general states or sizes or landmarks, I am super curious!
Edit to add: y’all I was running under the impression there was like a canon book map but ig not! Thx for all the thoughts anyways!!

Lore/World Discussion Thoughts on an episodic hunger games series?

Idk why but District 13 has always been so interesting to me as a concept, and I can’t help but know more about it, and it got me thinking of a possibility for an episodic series that kinda explains the story of 13 and things related to it, maybe a 45 minute episode structure where each is a time skip forward to a key event in Panem or District 13:

The pre rebellion
The peak of the rebellion
the peace treaty
the aftermath of 13 after the treaty
The first games
the first quell
the rise of coin
the pox outbreak
Maybe a nod to how reacted to haymiches games because he was planned to be the original mockingjay
And it could all nicely lead up to the end of the first movie where they saw katniss’ games

A rough description of what each episode could be like, but I think it could be a great way to showcase what happens behind the scenes, instead of giving us specific movies for things like the first games or the first quell, it can be presented more from the perspective of 13?

🐍TBOSAS THG & TBOSAS Soundtrack Connection Spoiler

After rewatching the original movie, I noticed that the plucked melody in the soundtrack sounds a lot like the melody introduced when Snow and Lucy Gray first meet. Links provided start at the timestamps mentioned:

  1. The Hunger Games (Penthouse Training), plucked melody from 1:21

https://youtu.be/jQD_BNiBFJQ?si=9tdGbnZhMvSjTbBb&t=81

  1. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (Meet the Mentor), string melody from 0:10

https://youtu.be/6DhrVFE49gg?si=UM_wWvmyPY6f9T8w&t=10

Granted, the chords and orchestration are a lot different. But the melody really caught my attention when I watched the OG film after watching Ballad. This melody is also repeated in "Saving Snow" and "Lucy?" on the Ballad OST album. James Newton Howard sneaking in these connections hehe
