Warning: Spammers contacting users via DM

Hello everybody, I've recently been notified that spam accounts have been messaging users who post here to try to get them to sign up to their "health programme"; namely one with the initials G W ( I don't want to help their SEO metrics by posting the name)

These people are preying on the vulnerable and the desperate to try to make a quick buck.

As they are only using DMs and not posting here, I do not have much power to stop them. So please, if you receive one of these messages, report the message via the flag icon next to it, so that the Reddit admins will hopefully ban their accounts.

Thank you

Don't underestimate the effects of thorough chewing and mindful eating

• Upvotes

This is a just a super short post to remind everyone how important it is to chew your food well and don't rush the eating process.

I recently started to eat my food as slowly as possible while also chewing very well and taking short (20-30s) breaks between each bite. The difference in how my digestive systems works and how I'm feeling afterwards is absolutely real.

I'm not saying this will fix your digestion issues, but this could be something additional worth trying for those who have already tried a lot of things.

Reaction to re-heated vegetables

I've been recently struggling with putting effort into my lunches, and decided since I cannot tolerate reheated meat I would meal prep broccoli, sweet potato and then cook my protein fresh daily. However, I have noticed that my adrenaline dumps/histamine related anxiety (i can feel the true difference) have started up again, specifically right after I eat lunch/into the evening. Everything I have found online says veggies are safe for leftovers, but maybe they aren't? Has anyone else had reactions from leftover veggies (with no histamine liberators in the meal)?

So I started taking Pepcid and Allegra in July due to PMDD symptoms and possible gastritis. But I believe this deteriorated my health so bad. Caused me so much more histamine issues and hives which I have never experienced in my life.

I read online that long term use of Pepcid can cause low acid in your stomach that in turn makes histamine issues a lot worse, gut dysbiosis, and HIVES! My immune system is screaming at me. Has anybody ever tapered off successfully?

I was seeing great progress but hit a plateau

I’m not sure I have histamine intolerance, mcas (or both) or something else. Symptoms started 1.5 years ago.
I was tested positive for LTP and had allergies all my life. Also got sibo and i’m getting treatment again, this time for 5 months (one week per month with antibiotics)

Worse triggers: fermented food, legumes, soy

Symptoms:
-Before: Severe bloating, reflux, heavy digestions of 4+ hours, gas movement feeling in my belly, food was stuck at the top of my stomach.
-Then: everything got way better since I started taking the diet seriously and was just slightly bloated with barely any symptoms
-Now: a bit more bloated but not as bad as in the beginning., triggers don’t last that long, faster digestions

What helped:
-Famotidine (40mg) daily
-Fexofenadine (20mg) daily
-Low histamine diet (this was key to start seeing improvement)

What didn’t help:
-Cromoglicatum (I tried when I was severely inflamed and didn’t work. I started again a week ago and I’m not seeing results either)
-Dao supplement before meals + vitamin C
-Magnesium(?)

I’ve also been taking probiotics for a couple months but I don’t think they’re making any difference.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Any ideas of what could be the reason i’m not making progress anymore?

My experiments with a vitamin C supplement

After finding out that I cannot tolerate pure vitamin C, I decided to do some science and test different doses of it (I'm desperate because there's practically no vitamin C in my diet at the moment). These were all just normal ascorbic acid in a swallowable pill. I waited a couple of days before taking a new dose:

  1. An entire pill, (500 mg). This caused persistent flushing (feeling of heat in the head area) and skin tingling (like mosquite bites randomly around the body).

  2. One quarter, (125 mg). This caused milder flushing and milder skin tingling.

  3. One eighth, (63 mg). This caused no instant flushing and very little flushing later and minor skin tingling.

This was just vitamin C, don't chop up normal medication without consulting your doctor! All of the symptoms lasted for at least 6 hours until I took an antihistamine to ensure I get sleep. I have read that one of the reasons that this happens is because vitamin C breaks down into oxalates and then the oxalates cause a reaction that makes my body release histamine. So it seems that the more vitamin C I eat the more histamine my system has to process. I'm aware of other forms of vitamin C but I have not tried them. Also, the vitamin C in fruits is in a different form which explains why I happily ate red bell peppers (which are full of vitamin C) for years.

PS: This is bad science, of course, because the active ingredient is not evenly distributed within a pill so when a pill is split in half it might mean that the other half contains 75% of the medication.

Responses to Covid Booster?

Hi,

I am wondering how those who have gotten a covid-19 booster this fall have responded.

Covid caused my histamine intolerance, which is on-going, and neuralgia, which is affected by the histamine intolerance.

Last fall I got the Novavax booster and was initially fine. However 2 weeks later I started having 9/10 pain flares in the morning correlating with my cycle which affected my pain and histamine intolerance. I took Ketotifen to treat the pain.

There is also a chance I was re-infected with covid about a week after getting the vaccine.

Please lmk about your experience, it would be helpful to hear how it affected you. Im nervous to get the booster but the effects of getting re-infected freak me out more.

Help! Desperately looking for answers. Thiamine protocol ruined my life

I had mild MCAS, mild dysautonomia and mild histamine intolerance. Looking at all the thiamine hype in chronic health conditions circles, I tried Thiamine HCL. And since then my MCAS and dysautonomia flared up, especially my histamine intolerance flared up 1000 times. It's been 3 months and there's barely any improvement. I have a fast heart rate, lightheadedness, body stuck in fight or flight mode, all the high histamine and dysautonomia symptoms. I took a very small amount of thiamine hcl( toothpick tip amount). I went from playing sports and eating a variety of foods to being bed ridden and tolerating 2 foods

Issues after eating beef liver. Is this common?

I've been trying to incorporate beef liver into my diet for its nutrient density, but I’ve noticed that I don't feel okay after eating it.

I guess, now I have insomnia…?awesome.

Hii this is my first post here but I joined this subreddit earlier this year.

In March, I had an “allergic reaction” to a very high histamine meal. Had severe stomach pain to the point that I couldn’t stand up straight, my lip was swollen and my throat felt like a tight lump in it.

Kept having reactions throughout the year, quite frequently. And always happened at night. Anti-histamines make it go down tho.

I did a bunch of research and came across histamine intolerance and I solidly believe that to be what’s happening.

It’s uh.. it’s October now.

And the frequency has kinda gone up a little due to me not managing the histamine in my diet well.

And now, because of how every time it has happened, I was either woken up by it or just about to doze off, now, my brain just associates sleep with histamine dumps.

So I just. Cannot sleep. my sleep schedule is so fucked rn. :/

Yeah. I just wanted to vent ig.

Quercetin causing libido changes?

It's working for my sinus issues. And I notice it doesn't bring any other benefits at 500mg.

But, a very annoying side effect is a higher libido. Why could this be? I thought I was slow comt.

p.s. i have quercetin with some other bio flavonoid stuff added It's life extention brand.

DAOsin latest batch not working?

Just wondering if anyone takes DAOsin and noticed they’re not working recently? I’ve been taking them for years and they usually work pretty well for me but since I’ve started on my latest box of them they don’t seem to be working at all which is scary as my reactions are getting worse as my histamine bucket isn’t emptying enough.

Difficulty Drawing Blood on Low Histamine Diet?

Blood work has never been super easy for me, but I distinctly noticed it got even worse (small veins/can't find a good vein, very low blood flow) after I started a low histamine diet. Has anyone else experienced this?

Stomach/gut flare after tooth extraction

Why am I having a stomach/gut flare that started around 16 hours after a tooth extraction?? No pain killers, no antibiotics. Just articaine with epinephrine (for numbing). The flare is upper stomach pain (knot-like, in waves, often gets worse with food), and more gas. No dentist anxiety whatsoever, but appointments are severe stress for me due to my chronic illness.

Has anyone here experienced something similar? Can the two even be connected?

Soup season!

I've really been craving ramen or pho lately, but I suspect I should avoid them, even if I can find soy-free options. Have any of you been able to eat these things out at restaurants successfully?

Suggestions on improving leaky gut?

Hello!

I recently developed histamine intolerance and a low histamine, fresh diet seems to be helping. It has been about 3 weeks on that diet, and I am also introducing DAO supplement, black cumin seed oil and a prokinetic (Life extensions bloat relief.) It seems like I have gut permeability issues and would nebefit from a gut barrier rebuilding supplement. I looked at Designs for Health GI Revive but I think it is likely to trigger a histamine reaction for me. Any supplements you would recommend for someone looking to rebuild the gut barrier? Thanks!

Anybody else just not eating to avoid reactions?

Been on a journey to figure out wtf is going on with my body for the last 3 years since I got COVID/mono the same summer. Extreme environmental allergies to the point where I've had to move apartments several times because the apartment was making me sick, dizzy and lightheaded for hours after eating many foods, insomnia, congestion after eating, etc. No answers from doctors

I got real sick and was bed ridden for about a month so I cold turkey had quit eating and regular routine, magically started feeling way better. This got me thinking and I've figured out at least the following over the last month:

- Milk and whey was making me very sick. As soon as I have a cup of milk or a scoop of whey, my symptoms return. I would have 2-3 cups of milk and 4+ scoops of whey daily, so I bet this was really fucking me up

- Eggs make me sick, which I have for breakfast every morning

- Oat milk and oats were giving me insane acne so I had to drop that after switching from milk

- Carbs are ok mostly ok, including cakes I bake at home (so eggs, dairy in them I don't react to)

- I think cheddar cheese makes me sick, but cooked provolone cheese (provoleta) doesn't?

- Ive done the at home baking soda stomach acid 3x times and have not burned at all. This could be the smoking gun, going to try testing with Betaine HCL to see how I react

My diet at this point mostly homecooked meats (burgers, chicken, grilled steak) and salad, which I seem to be doing ok with, but is exhausting sometimes because I just want to throw eggs on the stove. I don't know what to eat for breakfast so I just skip it. I had a milkshake last night forgetting about my dairy issue and I was incredibly dizzy all night long, woke up feeling ok.

Anybody in a similar boat trying to redesign their diet?

Famotidine for HI

I was prescribed famotidine for my histamine intolerance/potential MCAS. Has anyone tried it? I recently tried ketotifen and didn't tolerate it and it made my chronic fatigue really bad for two+ months so I am really scared to try another new medication. Would love to know people's experiences - especially if you are medication sensitive like me. If so, what time of day did you take it, did you get any side effects, is there any advice at all you have about it?

Thanks :)

Does anyone here suffer or suffered from a lump in the throat feeling (globus/dysphagia/reflux)?

Just wanting to understand if my symptoms are relevant to this condition…

I have methane sibo
Silent reflux
Globus
Food sensitivities (sulphites and aged food cause extreme flushing even as a child)
Asthma
Brain fog and fatigue that has never been medically explained but correlates to what I eat
But finding supplementing DAO plus at 1,000,000 units and taking copper supplement is working better than omeprazole or Pepcid ever did…
Any thoughts please share - feel free to share your experiences

Can anyone relate to extreme crashes after mental, physical, or emotional exertion?

I’m trying to understand what’s happening to my body.

After years of stress, I’ve done a lot of healing and I’m in a much better place emotionally. But physically, I’m still struggling.
Even the smallest things can trigger a crash:
Physical: Basic housework, walking, exercise, heat, cold or direct sunlight.
Mental: Reading, writing, painting or concentrating for a little while.
Emotional/social: Talking to people, hosting family, socialising, or even watching TV.

And have regular digestive issues from bloating to burping to gas to acidity to acid reflux etc

I suddenly become overwhelmingly fatigued, sometimes experiencing intense sleep attacks where I need to lie down immediately. The harder the activity, the worse the crash.

Sometimes it escalates into a severe, predominantly left-sided migraine around my eye, head and face, accompanied by facial and mouth drooping and numbness. It can be frightening.

Most of my routine blood tests and vital signs have come back normal, yet this is affecting my everyday life so much.

Could this involve nervous system dysregulation after prolonged stress, ME/CFS, hormonal changes , migraine, or something else entirely? Could several things be happening together?

And if it is what do you do about it ? Neurologist ? I have been to many doctors over the past two years and they keep dismissing me but the symptoms keep on getting worse .

And I’ve done all sorts of things from nervous system regulation to breathing to less stress to therapy to good nutrition etc etc I still believe this is something physical ?

Has anyone experienced something similar and discovered what was actually causing it? I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences.

How do you stay hopeful?

I’ve come a long way since treating all my health conditions over the past 5 years but lately I’ve been feeling pretty hopeless about it all, I just want to feel healthy again and not worry that I will never live a normal life…
I’m on so much medication just to calm my immune system, it gets me down that I’ve not resolved the reactions and I’m still only able to eat limited foods.

A question about carrots and cucumbers

Sometimes I could tolerate these; sometimes I could not. When I couldn't, I noticed that the orange carrot had green pigmentation near the circular core when cut into disc shaped form. Something similar happened with the cucumber, where there was extra green pigmentation between the surface and the core. The carrot turns green if it's exposed to sunlight but what I'm asking is why this resulted in the typical around the body skin tingling within minutes after consumption?

Summary: Most sites list carrots and cucumbers as safe for people with histamine intolerance. Why have I Iearned to avoid them?

EDIT: The answer seems to be that it's not really the green pigment itself that's the problem, instead it's the vegetables themselves. It might have something to do with salicylates or ripeness. I've gotten a reaction from a red bell pepper that was slightly off-red. Thanks for the answers!

Vitamin D3 has been a game changer.

I accidentally discovered this while going to the beach and sun bathing. My histamine intolerance symptoms basically completely ceased to the point I thought I was cured and I could mow the lawn without breaking into hives. I assumed my issue simply was low vitamin D3.

I unfortunately tried to celebrate and had a few beers and that again triggered my symptoms.

I think higher D3 levels make histamine intolerance symptoms less severe as vitamin D3 is a natural anti-inflammatory.

UK frozen fish and un-aged meat recommendations (for iron and B12)

Hi all - I'm in need of food-based sources of iron and B12, but finding frozen fish that doesn't trigger symptoms is proving very difficult. Un-aged red meat also seems to be a rarity in the UK.

Just looking for tips on where to look for frozen-at-sea fish and un-aged red meat. I'm aware some fishmongers and speciality online butchers stock these things, but I have a tiny kitchen with a tiny freezer - I can't be buying vast quantities in one go and they always seem to have huge minimum orders.

(Alternatively, whole food supplements you get on with that contain similar ingredients would be something I'd be open to.)

Thanks :)
