Easy open hearing aid battery packages are back on Amazon

Amazon is now selling the popular zinc air batteries in very easy to open packaging instead of that ridiculous impossible to open new packaging.

They put easy to open packages into a child resistant bottle ( Like a pill bottle) so no more stabbing or cutting yourself to open the package.

They come in Number 10, 13, 312 and 675 size.

A few small things I pay attention to when wearing hearing aids in winter

• Upvotes

Now that the weather is getting colder, I've realized there are a few extra things to think about when wearing hearing aids.

I live in Minnesota and wear the elehear beyond pro. Last winter, I found myself paying more attention to my hearing aids when putting on hats and scarves, going out in snow or rain, and moving from freezing outdoor temperatures into a warm house.

Here are a few habits I've picked up that might be useful for others who wear hearing aids through the winter.

  1. Be careful when putting on or taking off hats and scarves I used to throw on my coat and hat without thinking about it. Now I try to make sure the edge of my hat or scarf doesn't catch on the hearing aids behind my ears. Taking a hat off can be especially tricky because it's easy to pull a device loose without noticing. A tight hat can also press against the hearing aids and cause unwanted whistling or feedback. Also, avoid letting hats or scarves cover the hearing aids worn on your ears, as this can impair sound pickup.
  2. Check for moisture after coming indoors The temperature difference between the cold outdoors and a heated house can be pretty dramatic. When I get inside, I check whether the area around my ears or the outside of the devices feels damp. If needed, I gently wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. I pay extra attention after being out in snow or rain.
  3. Don't use hot air to dry them This is something worth remembering. Hearing aids are electronic devices, so if I notice moisture, I follow the manufacturer's care instructions and use a compatible drying device if needed. I wouldn't point a hair dryer at them or leave them next to a heater.
  4. Check the battery before heading out I try to check the charge before a long day out, power tends to drain faster in the winter, especially if I'm driving somewhere or attending a family gathering. It's much easier to check at home than to realize halfway through the day that I need to recharge.
  5. Put them in a dry box before bed After taking my hearing aids out at night, I give them a quick check for earwax or dirt around the ear tips and sound outlets, then put them in a dry box to help keep them dry. I pay extra attention to this step if I've been sweating a lot or spending time in a humid environment. I also check the ear tips and charging contacts regularly to make sure there's no noticeable buildup. It's a simple habit that makes daily cleaning and storage easier to keep up with.

None of this is especially complicated, but when it's cold, it's easy to rush while getting dressed or moving between indoors and outdoors. For me, the main things are avoiding moisture, making sure hats and scarves don't snag the devices, and getting into the habit of checking them every day. A little routine maintenance seems easier than dealing with a problem later.

For those of you who wear hearing aids in cold climates, are there any winter-specific habits you've found helpful?

New Oticon Reveal Ai acting weird AF

Hi, I have moderate SNHL loss (less than 50% speech comprehension also). I had Starkey’s livio ai since 2020, and just got fitted for the new mid-range oticon reveal.

please. please. tell me i’m not crazy.

  1. both my ears feel “plugged”, my left side more significantly than the right. It sounds like when heavy-duty noise cancellation is on your ears and you can hear yourself breathe in your ear etc. at this moment of writing, it’s literally only the left side doing it.
  2. music, regardless of volume or quality, sounds muddied, especially in the high tones, and then ends up crackling/adjusting/further muddying out just randomly through lines. the chorus can all be the same few notes, consistent, and it’s still happening. like multi-switching every second, immediate crackling, etc. even on the tiniest volume. Idk if it’s trying to level out the entire song to one volume or what, but thats not how my old ones acted. I listen to a lot of music, and I can’t enjoy it with these.
  3. It’s prioritizing hearing random ass shit, like fans, over beeping and other alert noises, sometimes even speech? it’ll start adjusting where the fan noise is coming from, too.
  4. i can hear it constantly readjust what mic and direction to use (person behind me talks in the same spot = switches directions of where the voice is coming from the entire time so i can’t tell where the person is).

  5. my hair moving around cuts the volume immediately and turns it back up instead of calmly filtering it out. this is also a new problem, but weirdly enough wind does not affect them?

It’s only week 1 of the trial period, but it will cost a chunk of change to return…. I don’t think any of this is normal? I did not have any of these issues with my old ones even during the transition; I didn’t even know it was possible to have the issues I’m having for $6k. I have a feeling my audiologist will say “finish out your last week before we adjust!” but i am literally going crazy. I cannot stand the way they feel with the plugging, and I feel so disoriented having bullshit amplified vs normal reality-level volume. Is Oticon known for having these problems? Is my pair a lemon or did my audiologist mess up adjustments?

Sorry for the language, but I am beyond frustrated after finally getting updated hearing aids FOR SIX THOUSANDS DOLLARS for technology that seems shittier than 2020 starkey. I just want to hear things.

Are danalogic tv streamers any good?

For Christmas I’m thinking of getting my mum a tv streamer and she has danalogic hearing aids. Before I go spending £200 just wondering if they’re any good or if they’re even worth it?

How easy are your hearing aids to manage day to day?

I’m helping my mom look into hearing aids and have been reading some of the older discussions here. Quite a few people mentioned Costco, and others seemed happy with pairs they bought online.
My biggest concern is whether she’ll find them easy to use without waiting for me to come over whenever a setting needs changing. Price matters too, but I’d hate for her to spend the money and then leave them in a drawer because they’re a hassle.

Unitron HAs and Bluetooth

My one year old Unitron HAs have a heck of a time with Bluetooth connection. Every time I want to connect to my laptop I have to re-add them even though they are in the list of paired devices.

They stay paired to my android phone but the connection is very intermittent, sound cuts out every 5-10 seconds for many seconds at a time.

They were not like this when I first got them. Now they are just a frustration.

Does anyone else have this problem and were you able to fix them?

Did anyone else have a change of sounds when your IPhone updated?

Last night, My Iphone 16 was updated to IOS 27.0. This morning, the sounds of the ringing phone are heard through the phone's speakers, where in the past they were only heard through my hearing aids.
I cannot find where to switch this back.
I have looked in the “handoff settings” but there was no joy. Anyone have the same issue?

Bluetooth hearing aids & TV

Ok my latest hearing aids are blue tooth which is great. But I have one odd issue. So I've paired my hearing aids with the phone, the laptop and the TV. Sometimes I want to listen to the TV in which case I make sure the TV Bluetooth is on. Other times I just want background noise so I don't switch on the TV Bluetooth.

When I've finished with the TV, I *have* to return to main menu and wait a moment before I switch off the TV. If I don't do this, I continue to receive the TV sound even though the TV is switched off. Tonight, the TV Bluetooth was off. I wasn't listening to the TV. I switched the TV off and suddenly I have the TV sounds playing on my hearing aids. Even though both the TV Bluetooth and TV are both off.

Any advice or explanation on this one please?

Hearing aids form Costco not at all working for me. Anyone have a good experience and recommendations?

I am posting this for my partner. He is mostly deaf in one ear and has low hearing in the other. The Costco hearing aids haven't worked for him at all. Any recommendations of what he should look at? He is anxious to see if anyone has a good recommendation.

I have 2 left ears.

I have purchased my last 2 sets of Hearing Aids from COSTCO and up till now have not had any issues, however my present Philips 9040s are now just out of warranty and my right side HD is DEAD. I went to my Costco yesterday to ask questions and we noticed I have 2 HAs with a blue dot. I have to admit I have never looked at the dots only the direction that the wire goes. So my question is. Have I been wearing 2 lefts for 3 1/2 years and is that a problem? I think it's test and I failed.

I am struggling with only one side working. What a pain. Watching the HAs blink 2 times- then again-in charger.

Sams club / Lucid

I have Lucid hearing aids less than 1 year old, still in warranty, has anyone having any luck having the store manager replace these with whatever brands they offer now? Or can we only depend on the class action suits for reimbursement?

Advice

So im in kind of a pickle here. I got out of the marines almost 4 years ago. I did 8 years, and got out pretty decent hearing loss. Over time it has slowly gotten worse to the point my wife can be sitting next to me on my left side talking and I cant really hear much of it. To the VA I never surpassed the threshold to rate hearing aids, well this last appointment I had I finally met the requirements to get said hearing aids. The issue is the lady told me (and so have other vets that have done this process) that it could be up to a year if not longer to finally get them. So in the meantime what are some readily decent OTC hearing aids I can get to hold me over.

Remote Control Eos Sphere

Hello, I have Phonak Audéo Sphere 90 hearing aids and a remote control. The remote is from 2022, and I am unable to pair it. When I attempt to reset it to factory settings, the indicator light turns red instead of green. What can I do, or is it perhaps incompatible with the new Sphere models? I don’t have an appointment with my audiologist until next year (he has just undergone a major surgery).

Do I really need hearing aids?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Got a hearing test done at Miracle Ears this morning and these were the results. Should I really get hearing aids? They did put a pair on me to test out and it was noticably different but the prices are insane. Do I really need them? Could my hearing continue to get worse like the Doc mentioned?

Thanks everyone!

Has anyone made their own ear molds?

Hi everyone!

I've been trying to get ear molds for my hearing aids for a couple of months now but they keep getting sent to me in an usable state. My husband is frustrated for me and wants to try making some for me.

Has anyone on here had any success making their own ear molds? Specifically acrylic but I'm so willing to try whatever at this point lol

Thank you in advance!

Would hearing aid help me with happy hour/lunch chat?

Post image

I have high frequency hearing loss. First diagnosed about 15 years ago, at age 30+. It's mostly stable now. I am not bothered by it normally except for my drum lesson I found I couldn't hear the highhat sound in recordings. Recently I realized I am struggling to hear people during happy hour and lunch when there are a lot of background noises. This start impacting my career. I wonder if spending on a pair of hearing aid would actually help with that. It could also be because English is not my first language, so I am not very sure it's the language issue or hearing issue. I also want to know if hearing aids from costco would be sufficient or I need more expensive ones.

increasing low frequency gain helps with speech and background sounds?

Would increasing low-frequency gain on my hearing aids help me hear speech and softer background sounds better?

My main issue is with hearing sounds like air conditioning as well as speech.

If you’ve tried this adjustment for the same issue, please share your experience!

Would a custom ear mold be an improvement for single hearing aid?

I'm a first time hearing aid user and I've been prescribed the Resound Sensia 9 for one ear that has declined hearing loss. I have good word recognition and mild to moderate hearing loss with most of the decline in the higher frequencies.

From what I understand, I'm not going to get all the benefits of the HA because I'm not using two aids together. For instance, these aids tout 4 directional beam microphones, two in each HA. They apparently work in tandem to optimize the best sound quality, especially in noisy environments. But because I only use one, the sound quality is a little tinny and lacking fullness.

My audiologist recommended we try a custom ear mold to help with sound quality, especially speech in noise situations and when streaming. I'm currently using a tulip dome. Have any of you single sided HA users switched over to a custom mold and if so, was it worth it?

Free H/As for Veterans. If you served any time in the US Military you are eligible for Free Hearing Aids from the Veterans Admin. Currently they are issuing Phonak Hearing Aids. Because the warranty on H/A's is normally 3 years, the VA will replace your H/A's every 3 years.

Rethinking the hearing aid... again

My 14-month-old daughter has mild-moderate unilateral hearing loss (normal hearing in her left ear). She’s worn a hearing aid since 4 months old, and both her audiologist and doctor emphasize how important it is for her brain to learn to process sound from both sides.

We’ve gone through periods of consistency, but now that she’s a full-on toddler, keeping it in is a STRUGGLE. And every time we struggle, my doubts creep back in.

What if it’s squeaking? Too loud? Uncomfortable?

This morning, I swear I could hear a constant rustling/static coming from it, plus the occasional screech. I actually put it in my own ear to try to understand her experience—I know, I know, the audiologist warned me it’d sound extremely loud to me, and it did. Every tiny sound was amplified, but there was also this constant background noise. Kind of like robotic static.

Is that normal? Is it only noticeable because I have typical hearing? Or is this why she fights wearing it?

She’s only 14 months old, so she can’t really tell me. We’ve been teaching her ASL, and this morning when I put it in, she signed HURT. That broke my heart a little. But she’s still learning that sign and sometimes uses it for things she just doesn’t like. (Plus, she actually did hurt that ear in a fall yesterday. So who knows?)

I know I’m overthinking this. But being a hearing parent trying to make the right choices for a baby with hearing loss is hard. The specialists say the hearing aid is the right choice, and I want to trust them. But I can’t shake the worry that I’m making her wear something uncomfortable when she seems to hear so well without it.

For those with mild hearing loss who wear hearing aids: What do they actually sound and feel like to you? I just want to understand what my daughter might be experiencing.
