Do I really need hearing aids?

Post image

Got a hearing test done at Miracle Ears this morning and these were the results. Should I really get hearing aids? They did put a pair on me to test out and it was noticably different but the prices are insane. Do I really need them? Could my hearing continue to get worse like the Doc mentioned?

Thanks everyone!

Would you use a website that compares hearing clinics, prices, and insurance coverage?

Hey everyone!
I work in the hearing healthcare industry, and one thing I’ve noticed is how difficult it can be for people to compare hearing clinics before making an appointment. I feel like the biggest complaint people have is where to go and how to tell if they are getting scammed or not

Prices can vary quite a bit between clinics, and figuring out which providers accept your insurance or what services are included isn’t always straightforward.

I’ve been considering building a free website where you could enter your ZIP code and see:
Hearing clinics near you
Hearing aid pricing at each location
Which insurance plans and hearing benefit networks they accept
Brands they carry (Oticon, Phonak, Starkey, etc.)
Services included, like follow-up visits, warranties, and adjustments
Patient reviews and ratings

Basically, something like Expedia or Zillow, but for hearing healthcare.
I’m not trying to advertise anything. I’m genuinely curious whether this would solve a problem people actually have.

Would you have used something like this when shopping for hearing aids?
What information would be most important to you?
Was comparing prices or figuring out insurance coverage frustrating when you first started looking?
I’d especially love to hear from people who’ve recently purchased hearing aids or are currently shopping around.
Thanks for any feedback!

Has anyone made their own ear molds?

Hi everyone!

I've been trying to get ear molds for my hearing aids for a couple of months now but they keep getting sent to me in an usable state. My husband is frustrated for me and wants to try making some for me.

Has anyone on here had any success making their own ear molds? Specifically acrylic but I'm so willing to try whatever at this point lol

Thank you in advance!

increasing low frequency gain helps with speech and background sounds?

Would increasing low-frequency gain on my hearing aids help me hear speech and softer background sounds better?

My main issue is with hearing sounds like air conditioning as well as speech.

If you’ve tried this adjustment for the same issue, please share your experience!

Would hearing aid help me with happy hour/lunch chat?

I have high frequency hearing loss. First diagnosed about 15 years ago, at age 30+. It's mostly stable now. I am not bothered by it normally except for my drum lesson I found I couldn't hear the highhat sound in recordings. Recently I realized I am struggling to hear people during happy hour and lunch when there are a lot of background noises. This start impacting my career. I wonder if spending on a pair of hearing aid would actually help with that. It could also be because English is not my first language, so I am not very sure it's the language issue or hearing issue. I also want to know if hearing aids from costco would be sufficient or I need more expensive ones.

Advice

So im in kind of a pickle here. I got out of the marines almost 4 years ago. I did 8 years, and got out pretty decent hearing loss. Over time it has slowly gotten worse to the point my wife can be sitting next to me on my left side talking and I cant really hear much of it. To the VA I never surpassed the threshold to rate hearing aids, well this last appointment I had I finally met the requirements to get said hearing aids. The issue is the lady told me (and so have other vets that have done this process) that it could be up to a year if not longer to finally get them. So in the meantime what are some readily decent OTC hearing aids I can get to hold me over.

Remote Control Eos Sphere

Hello, I have Phonak Audéo Sphere 90 hearing aids and a remote control. The remote is from 2022, and I am unable to pair it. When I attempt to reset it to factory settings, the indicator light turns red instead of green. What can I do, or is it perhaps incompatible with the new Sphere models? I don’t have an appointment with my audiologist until next year (he has just undergone a major surgery).

Charger broke need help

I use Phonak Bluetooth rechargeable hearing aids and the little thing into the charge port broke into pieces and now I can’t charge my hearing aids. Any suggestions on what to do? I already texted my audiologist and hoping I can come in tomorrow to get a new one but if not any suggestions?
