Discussion Curly girl method is a lie to keep you buying products and wasting your time

warning: venting

No, genuinely, I give up. CGM is the biggest racket of the 21st century. I’ve tried every product, method, prayed to God for mercy, etc. It just looks like varying degrees of frizzy mess. I’ve wasted so much money on products. I’ve spent so much more time getting ready doing all these extra steps. For nothing!

I never had a bad hair day back before I “discovered CGM”. I’d straighten it or even CURL it with a curling iron and it always looked great!

I’ve been walking around looking a mess for years trying to make CGM work.

I am going back to curling my hair. Unfortunately, my hair yearns for the iron to smooth it out.

I don’t even want tips because I promise I’ve done everything, and I’m not going to buy any more products or spend my limited free time dunking my head in water, scrunching, raking, plopping, diffusing.

CGM is a lie!

I did it yesterday im really happy with it lol.
The curtain bangs are cool but my hair gets oily so fast so these new bangs are easier for me to style.
What do you think? I think of giving myself layers too( i don’t do my hair pin straight so i can have some volume in it)

Help I don’t understand how much more specific do I need to be?

So my goal was and has been a full head of chunky highlights, from root to tip, not just chunky highlights on the top layer of my hair but under as well. That way there isn’t too much of one solid color and it looks very stripey and y2k. I’ve given photos, videos, and a detailed explanation and still it doesn’t turn out right. From what I’ve seen, it doesn’t even seem like they are using enough foils, anytime I’ve asked for chunky highlights they only use 8 to 10 foils, and it doesn’t even come out looking like a full head of highlights. This most recent time after it didn’t turn out right, I actually found a stylist who does chunky highlights all the time and has photos on her business page of exactly what I’ve been asking for, but when I went in for my appointment she said it looks good and she doesn’t understand what I want to be changed, like huh?? I understand what I want is VERY niche and oddly specific, but at the same time if you are a stylist with years of experience how can you look at these pictures and listen to my description but still not understand what I’m wanting? What do I need to explain/do differently? I paid for FULL highlights, it was almost $500

I’m going to post pics of the example of the highlights I wanted vs how it turned out in that order. please note, I wanted copper red hair with orangy honey highlights, so the color is correct it’s just the highlights are too blended and spaced out. I couldn’t find photos or videos or the exact colors in the type of highlights I want but you get the point

So I am dying to change my hair color…I am so bored with it. I have an appointment to go light brown with Demi permanent dye. I’m really torn weather I should just leave it alone. Would my roots look horrible, or would the demi fade gradually(my hair is virgin)

First pic is from 2016, second is from today. I bleached my hair a lot as a teen (first pic is my natural hair color.) but I feel like my hair was at its worst when my eating disorder was out of control. And then post partum on top of it all. I know it’s not terrible, but I want to have thick hair again!!! Any and all tips are welcomed

Help Not sure if this “subtle” red is right.

I went into my normal salon and asked for a subtle red / warm blonde. I have been getting my hair highlighted regularly for 15+ years. Last time it was highlighted was 3 months ago. I showed a reference photo to the colorist. It was my first time requesting “red”. We discussed the subtle color, how much it would fade, how I would need a gloss in a few weeks, etc.

I’m not totally happy with what I got, but I realize it will maybe fade to closer to my ref image. The colorist mentioned she was depositing more color so it doesn’t all come out on the first wash. But is it right to have this color/tone to achieve my reference image? (LAST IMAGE)

It feels like my front pieces picked up a lot more color. But overall I feel the red is more berry than coppery. I messaged my colorist and asked her what we can do to get closer to reference color. Haven’t heard back - that was a few hours ago.

Is this bad? Or am I over reacting? Do I need to trust the process?

Discussion Anyone else brush their hair out in the shower?

When rinsing conditioner out, I just feel it makes it a LOT easier and less hurtful getting tangles out.

Am I weird in doing this? Lol

Help how can i turn my hair from 2c-3a to 2a? (With no chemical treatments)

Hi. Im really at a difficult time with my hair right now because i just cant understand it, im not sure what type it exactly is but i think its 2c-3a, but my family has smoother and wavier hair than i do while mine just always curls up and becomes a frizzy mess. I know curly can be nice but i just dont like the look on me at all, i want it to be the smoother sort of wavy look. i cant even run my fingers through my hair without it getting stuck.

its really hard to detangle, so i only brush it when its really wet around twice a week and wash it once a week, i dont have it in me to do it too often because i just feel sad and defeated whenever i have to deal with it and seeing my hair falling out or feeling it breaking when i brush it through scares me.

My washing routine is whatever honestly because im not sure what to use, i use the garnier ultra doux nutrition mystic olive shampoo along with TRESemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo with argan oil and fino hair mask, then after the shower i style my hair with miscellaneous products because again, i dont know what to use, like garnier ultra doux leave in milk and lo'real hair serum and maaybee sometimes some wella hair mousse for curls and waves but not always, then i just put it in a braid while still wet and it dries like that.

Im not in the US, im in the middle east so the products i have available are a little limited, but im really at a loss of what to do with my hair, im depressed and always busy so i really dont know how to deal with high maintenance hair or routines, i want to make my hair smoother and wavier rather than curly and frizzy without risking damaging my hair with heat and chemicals :(

Please if anyone has any tips id deeply appreciate it, thank you!

Hair Loss Advice needed: Post-covid hairloss + considering an undercut

About a month ago, my hair started severely shedding. Did some blood tests, did some consulting with my dermatologists as I thought it might be a side-effect of a medication I've been using since the summer (for anyone interested - it's Dupixent for atopic dermatitis). They suggested I do a covid antigen test as nothing else in my tests was showing up to be a cause (including deficiencies) aand there it was. I most probably got covid in August while being abroad and about a month and a half later my hair started falling.

Anyway, so far I've been doing my best to manage stress and all kinds of things that might affect it, but one thing's bothering me - my hair has severely thinned out. As a curly thick haired gal, it's not that noticeable when my hair's down, but the part of my head above my ears looks almost bald and I think it's like 1/3 the amount I'm used to or even less. I've been considering getting a side cut on the parts where it's "balding" so it can look intentional as I wanna be able to do a bun or just have my hair not in my way all the time. I'll definitely also cut my hair a bit shorter so it doesn't weigh much and it's easier to maintain.

I know undercuts are mostly used for thick hair, but i figure that this will make me slightly less stressed about what my hair looks like and it might help with the growth later. It'll also give me an edgier look which I don't mind, so that might be cool. What do you guys think? Has anyone else dealt with something similar and how did you manage the situation?

The pics I posted are as following:

  1. Hair right before I noticed the hair loss.

  2. Hair about 5 days ago worn how I usually wear it.

  3. Hair above my ears when I have it up.

Thank you for any advice!

Wondering what you think of my hair, based on just these pictures. Is there anything you like or think I could do differently? Also, I have started to feel a little self-conscious about the front top part looking a bit thinner. Do you think it looks obvious or am I just overthinking? Thanks!

Bad Haircut accidentally cut too much, they look really bad

Post image
• Upvotes

I normally cut my bangs a little longer + less full, kind of like a wispy bangs look but this time I might have gone a bit overboard. Tried styling them with a round brush but that makes them curl too much and look even shorter.

Any styling tips would be appreciated. Also how long should I expect it to take to grow back to normal bangs length?

Also my hair is wavy so they stay kind of curled in. It looks like a bowl cut because the bangs go all the way to the sides of my forehead.

Question How do you keep your hair styled throughout the day??

• Upvotes

(hoping this sub is a good one to ask)

I've always had this issue, but recently I re-layered by my and redid my bangs. I'm good as styling bangs and they usually don't cause my problems, but it's the rest of the hair that gets me.

I guess naturally my hair is straight/wavy and it seems like it gets greasy easily, but I want it to by dryer and more voluminous. I used this powder stuff to texture it, I've curled it in the past, I'll tease it, I'll use hairspray - but no matter how much volume I get and how cool I get the layers to look and be noticable, it so quickly just loses all of that and looks flat again.

This happens no matter what- humidity, cold, even just staying inside and not going out. I'm kinda sick of it and just want to be able to like my hair considering the effort I put into it. Doesn't even matter how recently I've washed it.

If anybody has any tips for keeping it styled , or even have any products they recommend ((note that I don't have one billion extra dollars to spend on hair products)) then please do send it all my way, I really need to know what I'm doing wrong .

Thanks in advance:)

Help top layer of hair keeps turning orange

Thumbnail

so my natural hair colour is ash brown. ive been trying to reverse some dye from years ago and go back to my natural, but i noticed the ash brown dye’s hairdressers use keep turning my hair orange. then when i asked them to use toner instead it still kept turning orange after a couple months. even my new growth which has had no dye touch it ends up turning orange. it seems to mostly just be the top layer of my hair turning that colour while underneath it looks brown. is my hair just really sensitive to the sun? i dont remember it doing this before i used dye. i really hate the orange but dont want to continue this endless cycle of constantly dyeing over it. is my only option to just grow it out? it looks awful!

Like the title says. My hair was lightened with high color lift blonde box dye. I wanted to use arctic fox girls night. Unless someone has a better recommendation but I don’t want dark purple, I want pastel.

I wash my hair every other day. My scalp gets super itchy when and if i rub or scratch my scalp it’s flakes right off. They’re SUPER tiny pieces. I’ve been using TSal which seems to be making my hair somehow more greasy faster. I thought I had a dry scalp but maybe I’m oily?
