Update: We are considering on just surrendering him to the wisconsin humane society. Since he is already 5 years old and is dealing with this lump, will they just put him down or will they actually help him with this? I have checked his breathing and it is completely normal. He still has a lot of energy, even more than before his GI stasis problem a few weeks ago. He is also eating much more than before the GI stasis. He is wheeking and constantly asking for more food. He seems content and happy right now. Should I see if his condition gets worse before I surrender him?
I was off to college and my mom was taking care of my 5 year old guinea pig. He had recently suffered GI stasis, but we were able to get him back to his usual self after consistently feeding critical care and vitamin c. He is very energetic now. However, when I came back for the weekend, I noticed that he has a big lump by his lower jaw/chin. I wish we are able to take him to the vet, but we are very tight financially. We also have 3 cats, one of which broke his leg and set us back around $10k and one of them recently had a tail injury due to genetics that sent us back $500. Will he be fine? Is there anything that I should do right now?
Note: the red by his mouth is likely pepper or tomato

Hi, I'm Helder, owner of little Zendaya. It's my first time having a guinea pig and I'm learning more and more each time. However, I wanted to know more about vitamin C. I bought a small bottle that says it should be added to water, but Zendaya doesn't like to drink water when it has vitamin C in it. What's the best way to give it to her?

Yesterday night, very unexpectedly, Little Bob passed away. It hasn't been 24 hours and I am struggling. He passed away in my partner's arms and I'm very glad he wasn't alone. It was a little traumatic for him but he's also glad he was there. Bob had been sick and struggling the past few days and we were planning to take him to an emergency appointment at the exotic vet tomorrow morning when they opened.
I feel like a bad pet parent for not taking him sooner and for not realizing something was wrong with my little boy. I miss him so so so much and I am in so much pain. I loved him dearly and it's so hard being home and for his enclosure to be empty. I'm worried our other guinea pig is going to be sad and lonely. They weren't able to bond so they lived side by side but they interacted daily. I'm crying over seeing the syringe we fed him his critical care in and his favorite treats. I made sure to give my other pets, including Bucky, a good snuggle and some treats. We let the pets sniff Bob after it happened so they understand what's happening.
I think something respiratory was going on so we're going to keep the appointment we had and make sure Bucky is okay along with cleaning the cage and everything in really really well. I'm going to be very paranoid about his health from now on I think.
I miss him. I miss my buggy boy.
We love you Little Bob. I hope whatever is across the rainbow bridge treats you the very best. I'll see you in another life, baby. đ§Ą

Hola chicos

Should I look for something with a lower entry? Any piggie box suggestions that might help with hay scatter?
Thanks!

I rescued her, so I donât know how old she was exactly. I estimate only 4 or 5 years. It was really sudden. Tuesday night I was cleaning their cage and then an hour later I went to feed them and Pork couldnât move her back legs. Then, she couldnât keep her head up. Then, she was peeing on herself. My fiancĂ©e and I rushed her to the emergency vet within minutes of finding her like that. After examining her, they said euthanasia was the best option. But she had already passed on her own when they went back to get her.
Iâm so so so heartbroken. She was the sweetest little pig. I feel the pain all over again when I look into her enclosure. When I go to feed my other piggie, her cage mate, and Iâm only scooping half the amount of pellets. I feel it all again when I noticed how slowly the water dispenser is draining compared to normal. How much less I have to fill the Timothy hay. When I walk into my bedroom and she is not sprawled out on her fleece.
The vet said they had given her medicine to calm her down and stop her pain. She was having seizures. The vet suspected an unknowing heart disease, which pigs donât show symptoms for.
This feels so heavy to carry this week.

To make this sub function properly and be a friendly and useful place for guinea pig owners, the rules needed a complete overhaul.
Please familiarise yourself with the new rules. They are now displayed in the side bar, and are much easier to read and remember. There may be a few more modifications over time, we will just see how things go.
Most of them are pretty obvious and self-explanatory. But if anyone has any questions regarding any of them, then please ask.
I have also added some post flairs. This means that you can now search the sub by the specific flair, such as if you just want to see pigtures! I have just added the basics, if there is anything I have missed then suggestions are welcome.
Sexing posts have their own flair now, but they also need to be marked as spoiler. This means people don't suddenly have surprise guinea pig genitals in their feed!
Lots of people come here for advice, and it is important that they receive accurate advice and are not deterred by people being rude. If you are unable to respond politely, considerately, reasonably and helpfully to a post, then DO NOT RESPOND. Attacking people who are asking for advice does not help and will likely make them defensive and non-receptive to receiving help. Take a breath, look at something else. Anyone who responds in this way will get a temporary ban, if it occurs again then the ban will be permanent.
Please report any aggressive and unhelpful comments through rule 3.
Thank you for your suggestions and patience. Hopefully this sub can be a genuinely useful resource for those who come here.

Hi, my name is Helder. I'm Brazilian, and a month and a half ago my mother gave me a guinea pig as a gift. Her argument is that the animal has the same haircut as me, haha. It's a Peruvian female that I affectionately named Zendaya (given her lack of expression, haha) and it's been fun. I love her deeply and I never thought I would be so happy with a guinea pig! How did you get yours? Did you already like this little animal? Or did you learn to like it over time?

I just finished up cleaning the cage for my two piggies, Fluffy and Vanelope. I went to go hold Vanelope and things seemed relatively normal. She doesn't typically move around -her head so she can tell where she's at, and she was acting normal. Then I noticed her ears. It looked really red, and when i gently laid my finger on it, it was really warm. I've used the same bedding, hides, and pee pads for six yearsâ (every time I clean the cage I switch them out and wash them, I wouldn't ever leave them in their own mess for six years). I don't know what it is, does anyone have any ideas?
