Update: We are considering on just surrendering him to the wisconsin humane society. Since he is already 5 years old and is dealing with this lump, will they just put him down or will they actually help him with this? I have checked his breathing and it is completely normal. He still has a lot of energy, even more than before his GI stasis problem a few weeks ago. He is also eating much more than before the GI stasis. He is wheeking and constantly asking for more food. He seems content and happy right now. Should I see if his condition gets worse before I surrender him?

I was off to college and my mom was taking care of my 5 year old guinea pig. He had recently suffered GI stasis, but we were able to get him back to his usual self after consistently feeding critical care and vitamin c. He is very energetic now. However, when I came back for the weekend, I noticed that he has a big lump by his lower jaw/chin. I wish we are able to take him to the vet, but we are very tight financially. We also have 3 cats, one of which broke his leg and set us back around $10k and one of them recently had a tail injury due to genetics that sent us back $500. Will he be fine? Is there anything that I should do right now?
Note: the red by his mouth is likely pepper or tomato

Should I look for something with a lower entry? Any piggie box suggestions that might help with hay scatter?

Thanks!

General Care Advice Needed Adopción

Hola chicos

Medical Questions Clear mucus?

Clear mucus coming out of right nostril. Her name is Pigsley. She was diagnosed with CHD January this year. She is on heart meds. For context, if it helps, we haven’t full-cleaned the cage in a week and a half because we have been very sick. We do clean it everyday though, just haven’t washed their guineadad liner. I heard her sneeze and it sounded wet so I grabbed her and saw this. Her left nostril is clear. Do we take her to the vet? She just got checked 2 weeks ago for her heart condition. The doctor said she sounded and looked great. Her two cagemates seem to be fine. There is no cracking or any breathing noises. I do not see signs of labored breathing as well. She is eating a lot and drinks water normally.

Memorials and Bereavement Little Bob NSFW

Yesterday night, very unexpectedly, Little Bob passed away. It hasn't been 24 hours and I am struggling. He passed away in my partner's arms and I'm very glad he wasn't alone. It was a little traumatic for him but he's also glad he was there. Bob had been sick and struggling the past few days and we were planning to take him to an emergency appointment at the exotic vet tomorrow morning when they opened.

I feel like a bad pet parent for not taking him sooner and for not realizing something was wrong with my little boy. I miss him so so so much and I am in so much pain. I loved him dearly and it's so hard being home and for his enclosure to be empty. I'm worried our other guinea pig is going to be sad and lonely. They weren't able to bond so they lived side by side but they interacted daily. I'm crying over seeing the syringe we fed him his critical care in and his favorite treats. I made sure to give my other pets, including Bucky, a good snuggle and some treats. We let the pets sniff Bob after it happened so they understand what's happening.

I think something respiratory was going on so we're going to keep the appointment we had and make sure Bucky is okay along with cleaning the cage and everything in really really well. I'm going to be very paranoid about his health from now on I think.

I miss him. I miss my buggy boy.

We love you Little Bob. I hope whatever is across the rainbow bridge treats you the very best. I'll see you in another life, baby. 🧡

General Care Advice Needed How to use vitamin C?

Hi, I'm Helder, owner of little Zendaya. It's my first time having a guinea pig and I'm learning more and more each time. However, I wanted to know more about vitamin C. I bought a small bottle that says it should be added to water, but Zendaya doesn't like to drink water when it has vitamin C in it. What's the best way to give it to her?
