News Islamist bomb threat ‘from outside UK’ closes schools

A bomb threat from an alleged "Islamist" has been sent to schools across Scotland. This has led to racists having a field day on Facebook and Twitter with many saying "vote Reform". Am I the only one thinking this could be strategic i.e. the threats could have been sent by a racist pretending to be Muslim to try to stir up hate and drum up support for Reform?

Does anyone else in Glasgow feel like this?

I'm new to Reddit, so I'm not really sure how these posts normally go, but I thought I'd just give it a shot.

I've been pretty closed off today, just lost in my own thoughts, and it's now somehow 3:17am and I'm currently in profound pain. Honestly, I feel like I'm having a bit of a mid-life crisis in my 20s 😂

I kept thinking about how difficult it can be when you're living with a long-term health condition, disability, or just dealing with something that has significantly affected your life outwith your control through no fault of your own - and you don't necessarily have networks of people around you who really understand what that's like.

I'm wondering if there are people around Glasgow living with things like chronic illness, autoimmune conditions, neurological conditions, post-infectious or post-viral conditions, chronic pain/fatigue, physical or invisible disabilities, fluctuating conditions, rare conditions, or other long-term health conditions who sometimes feel the same.

Not looking for anything complicated or medical - I'm just curious whether there's actually much of a local community for people in this situation, and whether anyone else has ever wished there were more opportunities to meet people who genuinely understand.

It doesn't necessarily matter what the condition or circumstance is. I think the thing I'm getting at is that feeling of having something happen to you that was completely outside your control, and suddenly finding that your life, plans, work, education, relationships or social life don't quite look the way you thought they would.

If this sounds like you, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. Even if you don't normally comment on things like this, or anything for that matter, you could PM or comment a simple "me" - or even just an upvote, to potentially make this more visible to people who may not have realised they needed to read this - is better than nothing at all :)

I wasn't really planning to post anything tonight, or ever tbh, but I thought… why not?

I'm asking because, while I was deep in the trenches of my thoughts tonight, I had a few ideas. But they only really become applicable if there are other people out there too! I'm not trying to sell people some bs or anything other than seeing how many similar people are out there who can relate and share ideas :)

Arsehole Filming & Screaming in Cineworld

Anyone else subjected to the arsehole and his pal / partner who filmed him screaming at the cinema go-ers last night?

Cineworld, Silverburn circa 21:20ish, bald(ing) lad probably mid-thirties (tad difficult to tell given the lighting) his pal walked into the screen eight and yelled repeatedly at the crowd whilst the pal filmed. Frustrating, daft, and annoying, but none in the room reacted much. Staff come in shortly afterwards walking around the screen room, no doubt looking for them. Anyone else subjected to this or seen the arse post it somewhere?

Engagement Ring

• Upvotes

Looking for recommendations for engagement rings that are a bit different from the usual high-street styles.

They like vintage-inspired and coloured gemstones (emeralds in particular), rather than the standard diamond solitaire.

I’d love something with a bit of personality and character.

I’m open to genuine vintage rings, independent jewellers, smaller designers or even going down the bespoke route if anyone has had a good experience with that.

It doesn’t necessarily need to be one-of-a-kind or custom-made – just something a little less conventional than what you tend to find in the big jewellery chains.

Cheaper trains to London hacks?

Looking to head down to London either mid November or December and the trains are eye watering expensive. Am I missing something?

Last year I managed to get a return this time of year for around £70, without railcard (I often look at travelling at silly times and deal with the early starts). Maybe I should have looked a little earlier, but does anyone have any advice/other websites bar national rail/trainline?

Also considering flying but would prefer train

Hey everyone! I’ve lost this earring today 19.10 early morning. It’s not an expensive earring (cheap that resembles silver material) but it holds a massive value to me, as someone that passed away gifted it to me.

I’d truly appreciate if you move around this area and you could keep an eye out for it!! Thanks 😊

Please repost in The Steamie Mon the rolls!

Please consider visiting,

https://goodmorningrolls.com/

to share your favourite morning roll order and support the campaign of Peter Gilchrist a Scottish food historian fae Paisley, to see a working class staple recognised in Scotland's heritage.

He has received scathing opposition from toffs in high places, seeing the recognition of the morning roll, and the working class in general, as an embarassment, while trying to curate the sanitised shortbread tin image of scotland, they deem acceptable!

For deep dive on the beef, here is his insta post explaining one such attack 👇

Has anyone else been affected by the SBA / Cladding Remediation programme?

I own a flat in the city centre and had accepted an offer on it back in July.

Our sale has finally just fallen through because we cannot secure an updated EWS1 and because our factors have applied to the cladding remediation scheme. (We have had two specialists out to try and get an EWS1 who confirmed that the external walls are filled with expanded polystyrene 🙃)

I’ve received a letter back from the cladding remediation scheme that our building has finally been accepted into the scheme and that an SBA has been carried out but no news on whether there is a plan for the remediation works or whether funding will be provided to cover the works.

I heard this progress letter would potentially be able to work in place of an EWS1 for our buyer to secure a mortgage but I think we got the letter over just too late and now the buyer has withdrawn their offer.

We’re stuck in a 1 bed flat with a baby for who knows how long and feeling so frustrated after all of the back and forth this summer.

Has anyone else’s building been affected by this? If so did you have to wait until the works were completed to sell? Have works began on anyone’s building, and has there been any idea of timelines?

I’ve heard there are so many buildings in Glasgow that had submitted applications to the open call for remediation back in march this year so I’m assuming there are loads of owners stuck in the same boat as us.

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Glasgow Gaming Market

Did anyone get what they were specifically looking for yesterday?

Went looking for 2 games, one I couldn't find at all and the other was massively overpriced because it had stickers in the box. 🙄

What did you get if you went?

Also dunno if the lassie I was talking to about Nintendogs is in this subreddit, but I hope you found the copy you were looking for! 😁

Eating Out Cozy Coffee Shop

Looking for a cozy cushiony coffee shop to hole up in on a rainy day. None of these modernist hard-chaired sterile places where surgery could be done. Somewhere where your bottom makes an imprint on the seat.

Hello, as the subject says, I'm wondering what time gigs usually finish at QMU. I've not been before, and I'm thinking about how best to get home after. Thanks!

Has anyone had heat recovery vents (MVHR) fitted to a tenement?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I'm looking at buying a tenement flat so thinking about damp and ventilation. A heat recovery vent or two seems like a good solution, but I'm worried that cutting through the sandstone will be impractical, or planning/factor permission difficult.

(See pic for anyone wondering wtf I am talking about)
