At long last, today I was blessed with the Motoko (in goggles) A prize I reserved through eBay several months ago. I had never tried such a reservation in the past, but this statue deserved a chance. I couldn’t be happier! This thing is a lot bigger than I expected but will look good with my other figures from the previous shows and movies.

In the background you can see my modified 2001 Motoko from McFarlane. A few months ago I decided to add a diffused light underneath which I can change colors via remote. Naturally, I couldn’t stop there and bought a base, ring light, and glass vase. The process was quite easy overall. The hardest part was gently popping the base off the figure so I could insert the slender disk light. (Inside, the base has 4 plastic pegs that are simply glued to the bottom without any screws. With a little patience, I was above to pry the piece off without any damage. Soaking it in warm water would probably make it easier.) I highly recommend this upgrade as these figures can be found used on eBay for around $30. The 5” glass vase will be the most expensive purchase.

EDITED (components I used to illuminate and dustproof my McFarlane Motoko):

• (1x) slim RGBW LED lamp with remote for the bottom [I had a set of these that came with 4 lights and 4 remotes. I also recommend adding a small square of cloudy foam packaging to help diffuse the light. I am pretty sure I simply used a piece of the packaging that shipped with the lights.]

• (1x) 5" magnetic video light for the top [This could be optional if you have a good external lamp. This one is almost too powerful. I use it on its lowest setting. Obviously what I like is the 5" diameter matches the vase.]

The key attribute I liked was the cheap composite wood material that had a 1/4" hole for drainage. I crudely widened the hole so my usb cable could snake through it.]

• (1x) Laboratory Stand [This is optional, but I used it to mount the top light that allowed me to adjust it exactly as I needed. I am thinking of unscrewing the pole and mounting it on a slightly narrower base so it can fit under my vase base. For now, I have it hidden off to the side of the vase.]

Total the setup was almost $100. I'm sure one could probably find cheaper alternatives or purchase the bare minimum for around $50. One last thing I am tinkering with is adding liquid frost to the lower portion of the vase. This stuff seems so cool and make "frost" crystals at room temperature. Apparently they are easy to remove as well.

If my searches failed me and is a repost, forgive me. Similar to that posted here over a week ago (ref1) about the GITS SAC Blu-ray set, the upcoming Japanese release BCXA-2098 for 2026 The Ghost in the Shell season 1 were changed to remove English subtitles and audio dub (ref2).

Great job defecating on your fans outside Japan, Bandai Namco/KODANSHA/THE GHOST IN THE SHELL COMMITTEE (ref3). Shoutout to CDJapan at least, for taking the time to proactively warn me about the change in my order.

I found the time to go today (10/18), the last day of the event, but I wasn't overly impressed, at least compared to last year's. I thought GitS would have a bigger presence this year, though. Being the last day, a lot of merch was already sold out, like most of the GitS posters. Some of you might recognize this tshirt... it was $114.99 😶. That, combined with the keychain acrylic, acrylic standee, and postcard set, cost me about $215 🫥

I got my PS3 back from a family member whose BluRay player died. It was in storage for a couple years and then I thought I'd do some much needed maintenance (the fan sounded like a Russian helicopter). Took it apart, cleaned it, refreshed the thermal paste and reassembled. I was a little nervous, but it started up in top form! Apparently those two extra screws left over weren't super important 😬

I personally would really like to see the series slow down and get a little bit more serious. Yes, I love the silly expressions and the major is very cute, but I think the show could gain a lot by not trying to be a constant goof fest.

I also think a couple more original episodes would be greatly appreciated. The episode showing the backstory of the puppet master was great, and I would have loved to have gotten more.
