Why would a recruiter call me their strongest candidate and then ghost me for 3 weeks?

• Upvotes

I had a phone interview with a recruiter for an entry-level operations role.

It went so well that she literally said, “Honestly, you’re exactly the kind of person the hiring manager wants.”

She explained the salary, the benefits, the schedule, and even asked when I could start.

At the end, she told me I’d hear back within two business days.

I was obviously excited, so I checked my email constantly for the next week.

Nothing.

I sent a polite follow-up. No response.

I waited another week and sent one final email asking if there were any updates.

Still nothing.

The weird part is that she viewed my LinkedIn profile twice during that period.

Then, three weeks after our call, I saw the exact same job posted again.

I applied to it just to see what would happen.

The next morning, I got an automated rejection email.

So apparently, I’m their ideal candidate, their preferred candidate, and also not qualified enough to receive a human-written email.

I’m still applying elsewhere, but I genuinely don’t understand why recruiters make promises they have no intention of keeping.

Advanced to final executive interview, then rejected before it was even scheduled.

• Upvotes

I recently went through several rounds of interviews with a company and was told the feedback was positive and they wanted to move me forward to a final executive interview.

The recruiter requested my availability twice, which I provided. A few days later, I unexpectedly received a rejection.

When I asked for feedback, I was told all my interviews had been very positive, but the scope of the role had changed over the past couple of weeks and other candidates were now a better fit.

What confuses me is why they advanced me and requested my availability if the role had already been changing.

The position is also still open and accepting applications.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Does this explanation seem reasonable, or could something else have happened behind the scenes?

help finding job

It honestly came to searching on here because the job market is so bad and the jobs i’ve applied for simply aren’t reaching out. Makes it frustrating when you came from a job that was great but I had to part ways from the company (no i wasn’t fired). Now that I’m back and searching again and have a well put resume (so i think) there’s nothing available. I do want to go back to school but I have no financial help so I need something again in the meantime so I can work towards going back to school. I’m looking for work around the upper atlanta area like Sandy springs or in Gwinnett county. I have 6 years of customer service experience and some leadership skills. I also previously studied business and psychology but never got the degree but like i said i do wanna go back to that. If you know of any place pls pls DM me or leave a comment under. I hope this can also help anyone else looking for a job in these areas too.

How to feel motivated after consistent rejections?

I have been unemployed for almost 2 years now. Everyday I hope today would be different. Today maybe I will get an opportunity that realises I am a great person to have on their team. I have been doing it consistently for almost 2 years now.

Would love to understand is this just me? Because I see my friends getting jobs. Maybe it's just me!

Need career guidance

M24 from India) I'm thinking that I'm currently stuck in a sales profile and i have tried all sorts of things to switch my career but it's not happening.

About my education-

I have done my graduation in Arts alongside my job and currently I'm in 2nd semester of Online MBA.

About my experience (5.5 years) -

I have started my career in the solar industry it's a sales & customer support related profile which i have started to support my family financially. After this role my career is completely shifted into Business lending - Sales profile.

Career transition - I have completed many certification courses to switch my career into credit underwriting, credit risk profile. I gave my 100% learnt concepts but was not able to switch because nobody wanted to interview a sales experienced guy into the credit domain.

Advice - I need advice on what I should do to switch my career, I'm doing this online mba to cover my bachelor of arts degree ( I thought this is necessary).

I'm thinking of going for CFA or FRM degrees but their fees are too high for me.

So if someone can suggest a new way to switch my career into a long term journey. I'm a very quick & good learner so i can go for degrees and required exams but without leaving my current 9-5 job

What jobs are can someone start at the beginning of a calendar year?

Been working in NYC for 2 years and I’m applying for a new day job, or jobs plural.

One of my current jobs is seasonal and may be fully recessed for the first quarter of 2027 and, either way, it’s time for change.

What jobs and job industries are known for hiring people at the beginning of a calendar year? Does anyone have success stories for getting hired during or prior to this “slow time”?

I’m open to part time or full time positions. I have a communications degree and experience in both administrative office and service industry positions. I pride myself on being flexible, adaptable, and qualified for all sorts of jobs in the city.

Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts and experiences :) Any advice would be appreciated!

How tf do I make money in college???

Hey guys, I’m currently a college student and I am struggling to find a part time job and I am desperate for any ideas. I go to a relatively small university and there’s not an overflowing pool of job opportunities that I know of. I’ve applied to many places but haven’t gotten hired (I have what I believe to be a pretty well rounded job experience).

I am also a music major and play multiple instruments, so I would love to give lessons but I haven’t had any luck trying to do that here. So if anyone has ideas with that, lmk.

But I am desperate, I have some money saved up but not a ton. I have a cat and a car payment and the number in my bank account is getting lower and I’m getting more and more stressed.

If anyone has any ideas on ways to make money, I’m all ears.
