Off-Campus Housing FSU Housing (Apartments, Subleases etc.)

Please visit https://zublet.com/fsu to see available FSU student subleases, apartments for rent, or post your own listings. It’s completely free to use as both a buyer and a seller.

For years the moderation team has been reposting this thread to keep listings current, but this time Zublet has been brought to my attention where you can search for and post FSU housing options much more easily. It’s already being used by quite a few FSU affiliated people too so it seems like a great option for students looking for housing.

You can of course continue to post housing related things in this thread as usual if you want to do that instead of using the website.

FSU Chinese Placement Exam

Hey all I took Chinese for like 4 years in high school using the Integrated Chinese textbooks (got like halfway through part 2) but didn't take the AP test. Has anyone done the Chinese placement exam at FSU / does anyone have tips on what to study? I know the other ones are multiple choice but is the Chinese one as well? I really don't want to pay for 4 semesters of a language class so any advice is appreciated.

Does anyone want to go to some event with me or join a club?

I want to get more involved on campus, but I feel like I’ll be more willing to make an effort if someone were to go with me. Anyone else in the same situation?

Applied ED to FSU, worried about party culture and the environment. Looking for honest opinions!

Hi everyone! I'm currently a high school senior and recently visited FSU. I really enjoyed the campus, learned a lot from the tour, and I've always wanted to live in Florida. Because of that, I've decided to apply Early Decision to FSU as a Marketing major.

I'm not sure if I'll get in, but if I do, I'd be both excited and nervous. One thing that concerns me is FSU's reputation as a party school. I'm definitely not someone who's interested in partying or drinking, and as a girl, hearing stories like the recent Cornell incident has made me afraid of joining fraternity and sorority culture.

I have so many questions (feel free to answer whichever ones you want):

  • If you're involved in a fraternity or sorority, what has your experience been like? What are the best and worst parts?
  • Is parking really that bad? I am planning to get a motorcycle, so I was wondering if that's a good idea or not.
  • How is the business program, especially for Marketing majors? Do you feel supported and included?
  • If you're on the Varsity or JV Sales Team, what is that experience like?
  • In general, how welcoming and inclusive are students at FSU? Have your roommates and dorm communities been friendly?
  • Is it easy to find vegetarian food on campus?
  • As a female student, do you feel safe on campus and around Tallahassee?
  • Is there any drama or bullying?

I'd really appreciate any honest advice or experiences, whether positive or negative. Thank you so much! :)

Can I take an extra class if I’m enrolled in a part-time graduate program at FSU?

Hi everyone! I’m currently enrolled in FSU’s online Master’s in Education Policy & Evaluation program, which is structured as a part-time program (6 credit hours per semester).

I was wondering if anyone knows whether I’m allowed to take an additional class to reach 9 credit hours and be considered a full-time graduate student, or if I’m required to stick to the two classes per semester because of how the program is structured.

Has anyone in a part-time graduate program at FSU been able to do this?

Of all the reasons for FSU to be trending, it’s this?

I’m not even a huge football fan because honestly, I hate how seriously people take it sometimes. It makes it hard to enjoy a sport when people turn a game into something personal. But holy shit, seeing these screenshots pop up all over my Twitter is embarrassing.

I’ve heard stories about racism at FSU before, but seeing these messages circulating makes it hit differently. It makes you wonder how many people who seem perfectly nice could hold these kinds of views behind closed doors.

All this over a FOOTBALL GAME? Rivalries are one thing, but racism and threats? Is it really that serious?

As a recent FSU alum, this is not the kind of thing I want to see the university trending for. I’m disappointed and disgusted.

Discomfort Club is all about meeting new people, trying new things, and doing spontaneous side quests in order to live your best life! Our philosophy is that life's greatest experiences happen outside of your comfort zone. We already have a club at UCF, NCSU, and we are starting one at UF! So lmk if you are interested in bringing this to FSU!

4 years in FSU

I’ve been attending FSU for the past 4 years; 3 in Republic of Panama campus where I had my freshman year (I’m from Panama), and my current year as a transfer student. My experience here has been mundane, and frankly, sad for me. I’m a 23M autistic guy, so social interactions have been close to non-existent for me. In a school that is party-centered and women majority, I’ve realized that being here wasn’t for me, but I’m deep closer into getting my degree that I just have to suck it up. Plus it was, in my opinion, the only American college with solid footing in Panama, right in the former Canal Zone/Fort Clayton area.

The advice around here to ease the loneliness I’ve been feeling throughout the year was “putting myself out there, joining clubs, reaching out to somebody”. I’ve done some of it, had few friends whom I invited lunch with me. But I was looking to make some female friends around here, I’ve had one, but wanted more. I think I am biting more than I can chew.

I’m not very attractive, nor convos come easily to me, heck I don’t feel like I have tried with more people, nor that I’ve actually did, I just don’t know anymore. I really thought that I can just pass through college and get my degree while living alone in an apartment with deeply atrophied social skills and a fear that cripples my way into people. I’m not interested in a lot a stuff and spent time convincing myself that I don’t need a girl nor anybody, because coming out as confident to one can give off creepy vibes, so I just avoid them. Yet I wanted a girl deep down. I walk every day to campus and people seemed cold and distant with serious faces, like they don’t want to talk to me, nor to check on me. It sounds selfish, but they’re just minding their own business, but I can’t see it through emotional lens, maybe it’s just me when I had all the attention at home and none outside and people back home had a smile in their face. And I come back to my apartment, dark and empty; I turn off the lights to save energy and money, it’s so lonely and deafeningly quiet that I was looking to get a dog but can’t for economic and scheduling reasons.

I like to be alone, but it feels lonely and empty, I have the solution in my face, and I can’t take it because of fear!

I just want to make things right, to better myself, hit the gym, and just let people get to me than getting to them. I’ve been doing bike rides across town to parks and forests but it gets boring after a while. I even convinced myself that I won’t find much in people when I talk to them, that it is just your typical college pals that have secrets in hand and indulge in stuff.

I pile myself up on excuses on not getting the resources I wanted and wasting them away thinking I can do this alone: reaching out, going to social anxiety events, workshops that can help me up my self-esteem, yet way too many societal rules and coursework piling overwhelm me into doing nothing. I feel like rambling but I’m trying to communicate online what I’ve been living, experiencing, and doing.

I feel stuck in here. I just want to unstuck a gear after another to better myself.

FSU Scientific Computing

Hi, I'm really interested in the scientific computing major at FSU specifically its AI/data science application. I want to pair it with my finance degree with the hopes to go into quantitative finance.

I'm curious though, I've seen a lot of poor reviews of FSUs CS program in general which is a bit concerning. Has anyone heard anything about the computational science program? Thank you!

What is the state of Computer Science at FSU?

Alumni here. Graduated back in 2017. I have not kept in touch with any of my former colleagues, nor have I kept up to date with the department since graduating. So I'm curious, what is the state of CS at FSU? Reason I ask is because I've been in the industry for 8+ years now and AI has completely flipped everything on it's head just within the past 1-2 years. I've read that CS enrollment has plummeted across the nation and the job market is horrible for new grads, unsurprisingly. Even before LLMs were a thing, I felt the CS curriculum was antiquated, and now, even more so, unless it's been modernized. So I'm curious, who is still majoring in CS in 2026 and what are they teaching you guys?

Biochem major at FSU

Is there anyone here majoring in biochemistry who can tell a little about what it’s like? I turned in my application to FSU as a high school senior a few days ago. I applied EA with biochem as my intended major, since I’ve always loved science and my dream job’s getting to work in a lab and doing important research.

How are the professors over there? I’ve picked up a general consensus that lots of them make you learn the material yourself and aren’t too focused on teaching, but others say that’s usually just for the lower division classes.

I’d also be interested in hearing about anything related to research opportunities!

Anything to do during Halloween that isn’t clubs or frats?

I’m a freshman and not a nightlife person but that’s all anyone talks about. I know we’re the #1 party school but is there anything to do here that isn’t partying? 🥲
