Image Appreciating my girl before I have to sell her </3

I learned to drive on this car and I honestly could never see myself driving anything else. Since Im moving to a city for a while, I’d rather leave her to someone who will appreciate an FJ correctly. I put about 50k on her over 6 years and put in a lot of love renewing some old parts, but all the memories are the hardest to let go of! 😖😖

Anyways, here’s a pic after a detail cus she just looks so good. I’m gonna miss this tank!!

Question Looking for some lift advise

Post image

I have a very stock 2007. I’m wanting to do a full body lift. Maybe 2.5/3 inches.
I’m also wanting to get rid of the factory rake and have it level. Just looking for lift advice. Do I really need to upgrade the UCA? It’s 95% street use.

I just swapped off my OEM roof rack. I’d like to give it away to someone. It’s got some aging from Arizona sun but otherwise it is in great shape. Pickup only. Hardware included.

Image Need some advice, broken frontlower control arm bracket

So I have a 2014 fj cruiser with 111k miles. It's lived majority of its life in North Carolina. Majority of the frame is in excellent condition but the front section has some signs of rust. The car was in an accident in 2025 on the passenger side where the mount failed. Where the break occurred you can see the freshly broken metal and the portion that looks like it's been broken for a while. My question is how would an fj expert go about fixing this. I've seen that you can buy the engine cradle with lower control arm brackets from Toyota. Would that be the best route or is that something that can be fabricated.

I've attached pictures of the damage along with the engine cradle from Toyota.

Thanks for reading and hopefully your advice!

Sourcing Options

Post image

Hey everyone.

I'm out in Fairbanks Alaska, so shipping for large packages and suspension parts is atrocious. For example, a specific big name brand (RC) 6in lift kit is $1200 but it costs almost $1k to ship it to me. Shipping is blowing my budget out of the water.

I originally wanted to do a hidden wench bumper to keep the fj look and the 6in lift and swap to beadlocks with 37 tires but it dosnt seem feasible due to shipping costs.

My goal was some rough overlanding and snow wheeling, so i guess I'm trying to find work arounds to shipping costs or alternative options that are not commonly known for lifts.

Hopefully someone here has some insight for me.

P.s.

Yes that is a Suzuki sidekick body in the back, the frame is at the shop for a full restoration and I'm building it to be ready for next summer off-roading.

Image Finally got the old-school look I wanted after switching to 255/80R17s this week.

Finally got the old-school look I was after with the 255/80R17s. So far I'm loving them. They fill the wheel wells nicely without looking overly wide, and the steering feels a little more responsive than my previous setup. I lost about 7 lbs per tire over my previous 285s. Looking forward to seeing how they do on trails and road trips. I've ran DuraTrac's in the past and was never disappointed.

For those running 255/80s long term, what's been your experience?

I ran this size years ago on an early 90's 4Runner and liked them, but you could get them in C-load range back then.

Transfer Case stuck- Help!!

Post image
6 Upvotes

So here is my problem. Tried to shift into 4wd and the shifter wouldn't engage in any gear. Basically I believe it is stuck in neutral. Saw some posts and took everything apart and this is where I am currently. The right fork, i can move around freely, the left fork though is "stuck" and not sure what to do to free it up so I can re-allign everything and put back together. I have tried it in Drive, neutral, etc and so far out of luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Work that needs to get done, how much can I do myself?

I have a 2007 manual FJ Cruiser that has a 5" lift kit on it. The work that needs to get done is as follows:

  • The front differential is leaking; I would see if I could do it myself, but I am unsure how hard it is. Any advice is good.
  • Throwout bearing is going out. I would have a shop drop the transmission and replace it, as well as the clutch at the same time.
  • Front left shock is leaking. It is a Pro Comp shock, so I would need to replace both front shocks. I would try to do this at home.
  • The driver's side mirror light has gone out, and I don't know how to pop out the light and replace the bulb.

Any advice people have on resealing the front differential would be great, as I am fairly sure I can do most other things besides drop the transmission as I don't have a jack.

Question Want to get People’s Experiences with Family Compatibility

Thumbnail

I have always been an FJ lover and am on my second one. I even searched for years far and wide to get my 2011 TTE with factory 6MT. With that being said, I’m about to have my first baby and am struggling with the lack of convenience with the FJ. The suicide doors are cool and all, but they’re super impractical, especially in tighter spaces. Also, the space behind the driver’s seat and baby seat is like 0.5” and the anchors are super annoying and difficult to clip the car seat into (we have a modular car seat with the anchor connections attached to the seat itself). In addition to that we also have two dogs (one large and one medium).

My wife’s 2021 X5 will likely be the primary family vehicle but it just sucks since I love my FJ and never intend to sell, but need to figure something out haha. I’m even contemplating buying a 4th vehicle (I have a dedicated track car as well lol), which I find so silly.

I wanted to get people’s takes on their experiences with growing with their FJs and having it with a baby, car seats, dogs, etc. Thanks! PFA of tackling Hell’s Revenge in Moab.

Question Searching for a late model FJ

Post image
23 Upvotes

I finally test drove an FJ today and loved it. I was surprised by how torque-y they are. I have 2023 Tacoma now and I feel the acceleration is comparable.

I’ve wanted one since I was 14 and I’m 30 now. Now I’m legitimately on the hunt for one. I test drove this one today but it had A LOT of rust. Undercarriage was painted over too. Damn shame.

What should my budget be for a 2012 - 2014 model with under 120k miles and 4x4?

Thanks

Oil leak (07 6MT)

Thumbnail

Left work today and my friend sent me a photo of where I usually park at. Looks like oil and when I got home I check to see any leaks and all I spotted was a leaking cv axle boot, I did recently spray fluid film on my frame and whatnot so it’s kinda hard to see what’s what exactly.

Last oil change I replaced my drain plug with an OEM one and used OEM crush washers as well. I’m hoping the last person to do an oil change before me used an impact and ruined the threads on the oil pan rather it be a timing cover leak.

At home I park at an incline rather than a flat area like at work. ChatGPT said to put cardboard underneath and see exactly where underneath it’s coming from. The photo my friend sent only shows the ground so it’s kind of hard to know exactly where this is relative to where my FJ sits.

Could it be the drain pan or is it a valve cover gasket? I checked and there’s only a small leak on the passenger side, but I don’t remember checking the drivers side since it’s not prone to leaking as bad as the passenger side.

What other things could cause this?

Motor protection

I have a question for FJ owners—specifically those who have encountered this issue.

I recently did some driving on very muddy off-road terrain, and the space above the engine and transmission skid plates got packed with mud. I removed the skid plates and cleared everything out. My question is: should I put them back on? Or perhaps I could keep just one of the two? Removing them has increased my ground clearance, and I don’t drive on rocky terrain anyway.

Thanks to everyone who responds!

Thanks for the tips on the rack install when things went sideways, guys. Prinsu rack is amazing and my FSR Nova King tent is a massive game changer. Already had it out on two or three adventures. Once I get my diesel heater I’ll be camping all winter.

Also picked up some auto deflators and a Wolfbox compressor and they were freaking amazing during this latest desert trip with lots of sandy trails down in Kanab, UT.

Freddy Cruiser is a happy boy.
