Discussion What would be a good unsuspecting Ishtar hunter?

• Upvotes

So I found that I quite like the potential idea of fitting a ship and then using a signal needlejack filament to go to a busier null sec system and earn isk by hunting Ishtar ratters down while they're ratting. In your advice what would be some good ships with fits that I could try out?

Discussion The Entropy of New Eden: Why the Great Sandbox feels so static in YC 128

• Upvotes

"In physics, entropy measures how a system inevitably degrades from ordered potential into static, uniform noise. In New Eden, we just call it stagnation."

For over two decades, EVE Online’s defining characteristic was that it functioned like a living, breathing civilization. Distance actually mattered, information traveled along supply chains, local star systems had distinct regional identities, and player ambition carved empires out of empty vacuum. CCP created the rules of physics, but Capsuleers defined the meta, the economy, and the wars.

Yet as we navigate YC 128, ask veterans logged into Nullsec, Lowsec, or Wormhole space, and you’ll hear the same underlying sentiment: New Eden is feeling increasingly calcified.

The sandbox hasn’t lost its potential, but its gears are locking up. If you step back and view EVE through the lens of network design, economics, and human behavior, the systemic reasons for this friction become clear:

1. The Flattened Universe (Graph Topology)

The galaxy used to feel massive because travel took time and effort. As hyper-connected transit networks and force projection mechanics proliferated, spatial distance collapsed. When anywhere in the cluster can be reached in minutes by an apex coalition fleet, local ecosystems vanish. The spatial friction that once protected smaller entities is gone, forcing the map into a frozen, monolithic stalemate.

2. High Operational Impedance (The Equinox Equation)

Mechanics introduced in expansions like Equinox (Power, Workforce, Skyhook upkeep) were intended to decentralize territory and force dynamic conflict. In practice, they introduced heavy daily overhead without proportional returns. In thermodynamics, when the maintenance energy required to run a system exceeds the free energy extracted from it, the system enters negative utility. Players respond by withdrawing rather than fighting.

3. The Multibox Ceiling

EVE’s modern meta no longer tests individual pilots making brilliant split-second decisions; it increasingly rewards single human beings multiplexing 5, 10, or 20 accounts simultaneously. The human limit is no longer tactical flying, but how much operational bandwidth (and subscription cost) an individual can manage. This shifts the baseline and raises the barrier to entry for single-account players to a daunting peak.

4. Wealth Concentration & Economic Siphons

While vast swathes of Nullsec sit stagnant under structural weight, hyper-lucrative pockets like Pochven or Lowsec Insurgencies concentrate staggering amounts of wealth into small, tightly controlled networks. When a fraction of the player base holds an oligarchy over high-yield ISK generation, it distorts global market dynamics and starves broader regional economies.

A New Analytical Substack for EVE Online

I've just launched a new Substack dedicated to deconstructing EVE Online’s mechanics, network topology, economics, and meta-culture.

Rather than just venting about patch notes, the goal is to provide deep, constructive analysis on why the mechanics produce the player behaviors we see today—and how the sandbox can reignite dynamic conflict without burning out the player base.

Upcoming pieces will cover:

The Death of Distance: How jump networks flattened the map (and how spatial friction could save Nullsec).

The Physics of the Skyhook: A risk-vs-reward breakdown of modern sovereignty upkeep.

Economic Siphons: How localized ISK generators distort global markets.

If you enjoy long-form game theory and economic analysis on EVE, you can read the full intro and subscribe here:

What area of space do you spend most of your time in right now, and where do you feel the biggest mechanical friction in 2026?

Question Looking to learn more about Wormholes

• Upvotes

Looking for some advice on exploring and surviving in wormholes. How they work, who or what lives out there (Sleepers, Drifters, etc.), what there is to do, what to watch out for, and what NOT to do.

Any tips, tricks, guides, videos, or recommendations for wormhole corps that welcome newcomers would be appreciated.

Also, what do you wish you’d known before jumping into your first wormhole?

Art D-Scan Deception the Merchant Raiders of the Four Empires [MILINT File]

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

There have been reports for the last few years among many capsuleers, of strange interference with their D-scan systems. And some capsuleers in moments of deep inebriation at the various bars, saloons, lounges, and clubs of New Eden, tell stories of being completely destroyed and podded by mysteriously powerful ships they swear are by all deities in the EVE Cluster are supposedly vulnerable Hauler/Industrial Ships.

To the Common Capsuleer or Fleet Personnel of the Cluster, this is usually brushed off as the drunk ravings of immortal drugged up beings...running on too much Quafe and lack of proper human levels of sleep. But to the various people in the know in the Intelligence and Espionage circles of EVE Online, and the Pirate factions of the Cluster. The Threat is a very real, long term secret that hasn't had many survivors to speak on it, sans the afforementioned drunk capsuleer raving at the bar attendents.

But as all secrets eventually are revealed, the truth of the Empires cloak and dagger Covert Operations both against their foes, erstwhile Capsuleers, and the marauding Pirates revealed the unique hull class technology of the Merchant Raiders. The complacency of many of the Capsuleers, who have become entirely dependent on on their D-scan sensors to help them detect potential foes, threats, and targets; has made them extremely vulnerable to deception on this front. And the Empires capitalized on this reality by creating a D-Scan Spoofing Technology. This unique technology born of modernizations in sensor technology and small pieces of Drifter and Triglavian insights on spatial disturbance, and sensor vulnerabilities of standard Cluster technology, was capitalized on for a time with a unique spread of unique specialized hulls.

Each of the Empires Intelligence Services approached this problem in unique clandestine ways. Many of the hulls were retro-fitted and modernized hauler/industrialist built by small-nearly unknown manufacturers with plausible deniability and low bureacratic paper trail footprint. Although in the case of the Minmatar Republic, the usage of Salvaged and Scrapped Ship parts of different time frames and identifications lead to a more confusing issue of trying to positively ID the ship by its mosaic of part ID transponders. And these ships were equipped with a variety of high-technology and hidden upgrades that put these hauling/industrial holds into a very potent and surprising capacity in the EVE Clusters conflict zones.

D-Scan Spoofing. This, relatively new and conceptually novel concept, allows a ship to generate a false ID signature. Conceptually it allows a ship to hide its nature and potential activities its interacting with. For Example a D-Scan Spoofing ship...can completely False ID itself as another class of ship in New Eden space, and will appear on D-scan as lets say a "frigate class hull" and by virtue either lull an enemy into thinking its weaker and thus easier to attack. Or if the ship in question is on the attack, either project it being way larger or smaller than the opponent it wants to attack. Or potentially look like a harmless hauling ship...when its really waiting for pirates to engage it.

Main Goal Erode Faith and Trust in D-Scan, Force People to Eyes on the Target.

Now the D-scan Spoofing Technology isn't perfect and as of currently Combat Probes with their unique technology can zero in on the ship. Although there have been reports of mysterious mobile deployables that have created false targets in space deceiving combat probe scan downs. Many capsuleers name these as "Decoys"

D-Scan Spoofing versus other unique interaction mechanics already in game.

Now the D-Scan Spoofing technology is currently an Iniate Advantage for the Merchant-Raider hull-Class. And the hulls have a unique bonus as they are skilled up in, they gain a variety of new ship class IDs they can now have access to select and spoof.

Now there is a discussion among capsuleers about miniaturizing the technology for other hulls as a passive module. However, it has been noted that complexity and sensor interferance generated by this ad hoc module would interfere with warp core stabilizers, cloaking modules, ECM bursts, and interdiction nullifiers. Apparently one would need maximum skill with the Merchant Raiders...to even comprehend how to activate this modules full potential. [IE Merchant Raider V unlocks the D-scan Spoofing Passive Module for other ships...but also allows full ship class selectable] IE NO Free Lunch.

Also Merchant-Raider weapon bonuses are more free-ended...flat bonuses. Meaning the ships can be armed with a dizzying array of weapons that are bonused for specific weapon stats. (falloff/rate of fire/ damage etc.) The only limitation is fitting capacity and skills. Merchant Raiders also have relatively large cargoholds allowing them to carry or "acquire" certain large cargos or seized contraband. All Merchant-Raiders are classified as T2 Hulls, thus they gain some unique baseline stat advantages as well.

Fukuro-Class Merchant-Raider.
Developed by the Caldari State through smaller subsidiary developers with little to no apparent public funding but directed by the House of Records. The ship uses a very novel focus on very high rates of fire of both missile and hybrid weapons. The ship also has a abnormally high shield harmonization array inbuilt. And systems within the ship benefit ECM jamming and Drones. Named after the Fukuro (Owl) a nocturnal semi-shapeshifting and notoriously known to jump-ambush prey tundra creature from Caldari Prime. The ship lives up to its name, looking fairly benign to an intial sensor sweep and visual consideration. Then rapidly and lethally engaging its targets and prey with rapid and violent attacks, while sowing confusion in the process. The interesting part many observers note is the Fukuro is using a long defunct Badger hull stripped of its ID transponders, and build stands deliberately. [Also lore bit..was inspired by the Heinkel He-219 Uhu (Owl) Nightfighter]

Custodian-Class Merchant-Raider.
Developed in secret at the behest of the Ministry of Internal Order directives, and private holder shipyard construction out of sight of the Theology Council purview on heretical technological application or development. The Custodian was initially developed as a uniquely heavily armed and equipped prison-transfer ship for the variety of unsavory duties of keeping internal order, as well as transferring the various warriors and forces of the Amarr Empire sereptiously around to deal small brush fire rebellions or uprisings as known in the Amarr Empire, but never publically acknowledged. Named after the highest officials responsible in the Amarr legal system for keeping and preserving the peace the Amarr Custodians of the Theology Council. Which seems to be an indirect insult at the Theology Council by the Ministry of Internal Order. Custodians are heavily modified Bestower-Class Hulls, with a very heavy focus on withstanding attackers and making them pay dearly with their drones, and cleansing energy weapon fire. Some suspect the Ministry of Internal Order might have "redirected" some equipment from shipyards specializing in Legion Strategic Cruiser production. (Never officially acknowledge of the providence of this rumor...its just the whispers of Matar "citizens")

Mori-Class Merchant-Raider.
Although the RSS [Republic Security Services] understood the situation that they needed a new hull to capitalize on the D-Scan Spoofing technology. Due to the Starkmanir Prime Restoration fleet build up the vast majority of official production shipyards were completely overwhelmed in the campaign effort, and building up future fleets to back up the coming conflict with the Amarr Empire over the now changed Warzone, there wasn't production space, nor spaceship engineering crews available for such a dedicated project. However, a local Minmatar Researcher approached the RSS with the concept of creating a modular ship out of the myriad of wreck salvage from the various salvage yards of Minmatar Space. The resulting ship had such a hodgepodge of transponders and manufacturing part indentifications, that any destroyed ship was nearly impossible to trace back to the ad hoc private shipyards that cobbled together these space faring monstrosities. The ship earned its name...Mori which poetically was the nickname of many Minmatar Shipyard Workers who have toiled for years without much recognition. To be called a Mori was be called a "Ghost with Rust-Brown Clothes" as many Minmatar Shipyard workers did look so after building ships all day. In many ways its a fitting name for a Mori to strike back at the enemies of the Republic. Never underestimate the Mori because even though it looks ramshackle and beaten down and falling apart, it can withstand and dish out its vengeance on those who overlook it. (It is unknown if the rumors of a small black box bearing the tribal tattoos of the unknown shipyard workers is installed on each Mori)

Dolos-Class Merchant-Raider.
The Gallente Federation FIO [Federation Intelligence Office] decided on a more deliberate approach to the D-Scan Spoofing Technology. Knowing Capsuleers have historically used Gallente Hauler hulls in rather unique ways. As in the oft spoken of in Capsuleer Circles Combat Nereus. Considering the creative usage of the Nereus, the FIO quietly diverted surplus Nereus Hulls to a variety of smaller-bespoke and shady "chop shop" shipyards to do the dirty work of conversion. The resulting "Dolos" (so named after an apprentice demon of deceit, lies, and fraud in older Gallente Folklore) is a highly souped up and dangerous derivative of the classic Nereus. But yet it is uniquely a different ship, and focuses on capturing a target, and then destroying it before it can attempt to warn others of its deception. This ship has one of the largest drone bays of this class, and is comparable to most cruiser and larger ships with its drone bandwidth. Usually the last sensor reading a pirate sees is an innocuous frigate, before being evaporated by the blistering amount of fire and damage. The Dolos teaches a very important lesson in lethal deception on grid. (A little inspiration from World War II Allied night fighters which used more radome based radar housings. Also the Dolos will be one of the rare Gallente Ships that can fit (a) missile launcher)

So Capsuleers, next time you hit V for your D-scan. You better think twice. Because that little frigate approaching your PVE/PVP/Hunting ship...might not be so innocent or weak as you think. The Merchant-Raiders are on the loose.

Question Does anybody know how to multibox discord?

I need to be in 2 FW fleets at the same time and they both use discord. I don't need to talk, just be able to hear. My current option is to run one discord on my phone, but maybe you know a better way?

Blog The report of a new capsuleer.

o7 Capsuleers.

On August 20th I opened the game and upon character creation I was greeted by the iconic message "Clone activated" which officially marked the begining of my journey in New Eden.

Let me explain myself and my genesis. I am indeed an entirely new character in EO, but quite an experienced fellow in the way of New Eden.

Four years ago, Eve Echoes launched on mobile and I was one among tens of thousands to experience the parallel New Eden. I heard of Eve Online many years ago, but I always lacked the context which would allow me to be actively immersed in a platform where risk and reward are close kin and death is but another lesson. Of course that, and the fact that I didn't have a device powerful enough to run the game beyond potato mode.

What changed?

In August, this year, I was presented with an opportunity to rejuvenate and expand my gaming horizon beyond the mobile platform. At first I thought I should invest this opportunity in a gaming pc or laptop. Swiftly I remembered that as a courier who works 12 to 14 hours a day, coming back home to my wife and two daughters, I just couldn't justify staying glued to a desk a couple of hours.

But then enters Steam Deck Oled add on my feed. A handheld computer. I was amazed. My first research involved the one true question "Can it run Eve Online?"

Apparently, because of its dual trackpads it made this handheld device uniquely suited to run such an information reliant piece of software. I bought the deck and wasn't disappointed.

The Decks gorgeously meticulous button mappings, along with the joysticks offering tens of menius and additional buttons to tinker with, and the highly costumisable trakpads make the transition from a mouse and keyboard to a handheld incredibly smooth. There is only one downside though, in order to chat i need to bring an on-screen keyboard to tap which covers half the screen, but that is neatpicking.

Now I have the means to play Eve Online according to my lifestyle, before going to sleep when my family already settled in bed I have my daily two hours in which I am a capsuleer.

In EE for the entirety of my career I was an amarr pilot, flying Abbadons, Armagedons, Apocalypses and Revelation. But also a minmatar Niddhogger. I promised in this chapter in EO I would diversify away from amarr.

I kept to this promise for about two weeks when I jumped from Gallente destroyers into amarr cruisers. Then onwards with Prophecies and later, commiting by skilling into amarr battleships V, with the the mighty Armagedon Navy Issue. With the Gedon NI, I can run L4 missions pulling in profits of about 30 to 40mil per hour. This financial freedom allowed me to investigate what the hell are these T3 strategic cruisers. Modular cruisers with insane capabilities. Because I already skilled into heavy missiles and heavy assault missiles, I chose the Tengu, maybe it has also to do with the its aesthetics, since in my opinion is the best looking T3 cruiser.

With the Tengu I began exploring C1 wormholes, and restricted myself to C1s only. The C1 combat sites are quite lucrative and comfortable to run, although not as reliable as the L4 missions, since the risk is incomparable. I am happy to announce that I am yet to loose a Tengu, and I have risked it in many wormholes hitherto. Something I can't say about the Navy Gedon.

Well, to conclude a post which probably will bore a majority intrested by a title, I am now making between 30 to 50 million isk in an hour or a litle over hour. The complexity of Eve Online didn't deter me, quite the opposite it drew me in and keeps pulling me into the rabbit hole. I feel proud of I can do after just two months and about 200 hours.

Fly safe out there.

Vladashk Out.

Question Best all-around ship for Guristas escalations?

I live in NS space populated by Guristas rats. My pilot was originally trained to fly a Kronos in Incursions and now I'm starting to branch into other activities.

I like chewing up Guristas Havens with the Kronos for fun and profit, and I trigger a lot of escalations such as The Maze and Dread Guristas Fleet Staging. I haven't been running the escalations because the Kronos is not ideal for the escalation sites. I'd like to skill my Kronos pilot into another ship that would allow me to run most of the escalations I generate.

I see the Tengu and Proteus get mentioned a lot, and the Ishtar to a lesser extent. I tried running the Maze with an Ishtar with another character, but cannot tank the damage long enough in the final room, so I'm not confident the Ishtar is a great choice. A corp mate mentioned to me that the Ishtar is doable, but it takes a Gucci fit and Crystal implants. I'd prefer to do the sites with a larger margin of safety.

What ship and fit would you all suggest for this type of content?

Discussion eve needs a museum of player-made disasters

eve has decades of history, and a lot of it exists in scattered battle reports, forum posts, old killboards, and stories that get retold differently by everyone involved.

a museum of new eden wouldn't even need to focus on famous wars. it could document abandoned infrastructure, failed scams, bizarre market collapses, forgotten alliances, and plans that fell apart in spectacular ways

the best exhibits would include the original evidence alongside the version of events people remember today

what obscure eve incident deserves to be preserved for players who weren't around when it happened?

Question So how long will this empire battle last before the servers crap themselves?

In the expansion notes it is said that there will be massive brawl between all empires with all capsuleers willing to join. I wonder how bad the tidi is gonna be and how long untill the servers just call it quits? Or is there going to be a special server that should manage to hold on?

Discussion "Mining salt" is destructive attention-seeking behavior

TLDR: call it what it is, consider counseling or therapy.

See title. I've been around Eve a while, "griefing" is a valid playstyle, and there's plenty of piracy, isk-positive highsec ganking, FW noob beat downs, N+1 mobbing, nano ship fighting (no 20km/s Crows from pre-stack-nerf anymore) in the game. Everyone's in it to win it, get the loot, and go home either with a story or the rewards.

I'm fine with all that. Space laisse-faire gaming. Under the hood, a lot of that becomes control-seeking and power fantasies. Nobody trains up a dozen accounts and orchestrates them (benign multiboxing or EULA-breaking input broadcasting) because they're willing to lose a fight, cede control of a system or gate, etc.

"Salt mining" is another story. I'm sure it's one of those ironic statements that started as a dodge, that someone thought was funny, and it stuck. It got CODE-ified, it has a script ("You mad?" "Miner!"), it entered the vernacular. You strip away the jargon, it's destructure attention-seeking behavior. It's breaking someone else's toy, making fun of them, bullying them. What's the reward? Often times the loot is inconsequential, the killmail reflects the loot, and there's no strategic win. That leaves the attention, especially when the victor goads the defeated while they're having an emotional reaction.

Contrast FW: you go in, exchange rockets, exchange "good fight" in local, maybe ask how the other guy won, go get another ship. PvP is part of the game. People react. Focusing on the reactions is not part of the game.

If you or your corpmates/friends engage heavily in "salt mining", seriously consider talking to a therapist or other medical health professional. The root causes range from loneliness to some shade of depression to ADHD to clinical behavioral issues. It's really easy for someone to 'cope' with low-consequence online behavior. Eve Online also attracts a certain kind of 'focused' individual who shoehorns easily into both 'attention seeker' and 'emotionally reactive'. High correlation does not make causation, though.

Keep getting out there and blowing up digital spaceships. Just take care of yourselves, and your mental health.

-some space nerd who started in 2005 and has an ADHD kid

Discussion I built ForgeWire: an EVE industry and market intelligence tool — public trial

I've been building ForgeWire because I wanted something that follows the whole EVE industry chain instead of making me jump between five tools and a spreadsheet. It is now open as a public trial.

Current features include:

• T1, T2, T3 and capital manufacturing analysis

• Live Jita, Amarr, Dodixie and Rens market pricing

• Material, job, tax, structure and hauling cost controls

• Invention and reaction profitability

• Personal blueprint profitability ranking through EVE SSO

• LP opportunity cost for faction blueprints

• Market-demand signals using loss activity, market volume, visible supply and price movement

• Doctrine logistics: paste EFT fits, choose quantities, compare against your assets and build a restock list

This is not meant to replace Pyfa. The goal is to answer the industrial questions that come after a doctrine, market opportunity or pile of blueprints lands in your lap: What should I build, where should I sell it, what am I missing, and is the margin actually real?

The numbers and interface are still being tested. If you know a market or build well, I would genuinely value people trying to break the math and calling out anything wrong, unclear or missing.

Anyone who signs in during the public trial window receives the full feature set for 60 days. Trial access is free; future access tiers will be handled entirely through in-game payment options such as ISK, LP, or PLEX.

https://forgewire.space/

Fly dangerous, and please bring me bad news about the calculations.

FCplease Make contracts split stacks!

Thumbnail gallery
20 Upvotes

Can we please have accepting contracts to split stacks of items? I would love this for distributing stacks of materials for PI planets. It still is insane amount of work to do PI even after the templates.

When requesting materials with character A from character B if character B has the materials the contract is not going to go through unless the requested materials are in exact stack as requested. The game isn't splitting it for us.

Why request? Because you can not paste from clipboard to send stuff but you can paste from clipboard whilst requesting stuff.

Why paste from clipboard? Repetitive contracts where you always want to send the exact same amount of stuff is easy to be put on a chart what you can copy.

What would be a better idea than all this:
-FC giving us the ability to send an already sent out contract again so not having to paste it from clipboards all the time (this option still would require them to put in the ability for the contracts to split stacks)

Tl;dr: I am tired, boss.

Question New/returning player, need help about factional warfare for the pirates

Hello, I saw a 2 years old vid about eve, specifically doing 5 toons factional warfare sites for the pirates so I enlisted and all that, but can't find any small/medium 5 man sites, are they deleted from the game or ppl just rush to do them? Many thanks
