We are having our floors refinished and this is how the workers plugged is their sander. Is this safe common practice or should I be concerned?

Question so I don't deep fry my PC or myself - will using a 2- to 3-prong outlet strip be safe?

• Upvotes

I recently moved into a old home with only 2-prong outlets. I bought a power strip that can plug into 2-prong outlets, and is lined with 3-prong openings. My computer and drawing tablet both require 3-prongs and will be plugged into this one strip. I am worried that they won't actually be grounded...

In your knowledge and experience, is this worry warranted? How high is the risk of using such an adapter?

If I am being paranoid that's honestly the best answer ever - but if not... I will have to wait to start drawing fanart for a while still~☆

(Bummer Note: I am renting so I can't change the outlet to a GCFI which would seem like the safest option...)

Danger?

I leave my lightbulb ontop of my lamp like this which produces a very nice yellow glow. It has just come to my attention that the lightbulb and tennis ball both get quite hot when left for long periods of time. If I leave it one during study ses (3hour+) is there any hazard?

NEMA 14-50 - conduit options?

I'm installing a 14-50 outlet on the back of my house for an EV charger. I'm using 6 gauge wire and it seems according to code I could use 3/4" EMT conduit but it might be tight. I was going to use 1" EMT, but it is not as easily available and harder to work with (I don't have a 1" conduit bender). This run is going out the side of my panel through a masonry wall to the receptacle. Maybe 3-4 feet of wire total.

Are there other easier/readily available options? Like PVC conduit or liquid tight? A whip? I believe whips are allowed for 6 ft or less, but I'm not sure if they are allowed in this situation.

I am in Chicago. I installed a 14-50 for my range, but that was a much longer run.

How can I be held liable for deficient work that I paid licensed electrician and electrical contractor to do to code.

The company did the work illegally and without the proper permit. Provided falsified permits and approvals. Even if I allow them to "finish" the work they started it will not obtain the certification I specifically paid for and need to be able to live in, insure, remortgage or sell my property. I paid over $14,000 for new electrical their scope on the permit they provided tsbc (that I was not provided until yesterday) is very limited and makes it seem like they were changing a few plugs.

Advice needed for wiring

Would appreciate any direction here, I’m not as savvy with wiring as I want to be.

We are replacing old fans with lights to just fans with no lights. The fan pictured goes to two switches:

-One with black, red, white, and black
-One with white and two red

They both have three way switches. When the breaker line is on, the fan turns on/spins but I can’t turn on/off using the switches (only the pull chain). PLEASE HELP!

2 things to note:

1: the left switch in the second picture is wired correctly and works as intended
2: we are okay with the lesser-used switch (pic 3) but would like the main switch to be used (pic 2)

Does anyone know the value of these used? Found 4 in a dumpster and was curious. A couple used ones I saw sold for $900-1300.

An electrical company my buddy rents a building to, cleaned out their loft and just tossed them.

I grabbed all the wire and lights I could but these things weigh a ton. Any info would help. I'd they are worth it and valuable, I'm gonna go grab them.

And if this post isn't allowed, well mods, you know what to do. Thanks

Purchasing a 7500w 240v garage heater

I have a NEMA 6-50R in my garage, currently not being used, that runs to a dedicated 50amp circuit on the main breaker in my basement. This heater draws 31.25A and calls for 8AWG wires for connection. Can I buy a 50A, 6-2 power cord that has eyelet terminals on one side and a 6-50P on the other, plug it in and safely call it a day? I don’t mind having an electrician come out but this seemed simple enough, though I’d still like to confirm for safety’s sake.

3 Way Switch Help

Post image

I am trying to replace a broken 3 way dimmer switch. The current switch is wired with two black wires coming from the wall to the we'd wire on the switch. Am I correct that those are the traveler wires?

I am replacing this with a Legrand dimmer and it has four terminals (two for travelers, one for load, and a ground).

Flickering lights on same circuit. Breaker has been replaced.

We've been in a rental for a few months now. Every minute or so the lights all on this one circuit keep flickering at the same time. We contacted the landlord and they had an electrician come out and replace the breaker at the panel. It fixed it for about 24 hours. Back at it.

They thought maybe that it was the new overhead hallway lights they installed in the spring. So they replaced those. Still happening.

The electrician said something along the lines (bear with me, I've been out of town and not fully moved in yet so I'm playing the telephone game) if the new breaker did not fix it it would be a longer process of checking each switch on the circuit to see what's wrong or something along those lines?

Any thoughts on what this might be and I could try and help pinpoint it? The landlords are being generally helpful and I get the frustration being a homeowner myself so I'm hoping to help them pin point it. I thought for sure I had it figured out by isolating it to the same circuit but it of course failed shortly after.
