Survey Maternal mental health in pregnancy

Hello everyone:)

I’m a trainee psychologist working in the NHS Maternity and Neonatal Psychological Intervention Service. I’m currently looking for pregnant participants for non profit study on wellbeing and anxiety during pregnancy. This is an important area of maternal mental health where more research is needed. The findings may help us better understand the psychological factors linked with antenatal anxiety and how mental health support during pregnancy could be improved.

The study has received sponsorship and ethical approval from the University of Edinburgh.Ethics Committee Reference: 25-26CLPS111

The study involves completing a short, anonymous online survey which takes around 20 minutes. If you would like to take part, please click the link below:

If you have any questions, you are more than welcome to email me at [M.Domka@sms.ed.ac.uk](mailto:M.Domka@sms.ed.ac.uk)

Thank you so much for supporting pregnancy and maternal mental health research 🌷🙏

Food and Drink Halal butcher recommendations?

I used to live in Glasgow and I can’t find any butcher that has the same quality of meat in Edinburgh as it did back in Glasgow. Any recommendations?

Question Looking for a specific restaurant

Hello! My partner and I have our civil ceremony next month and we’re looking for a restaurant to eat at afterwards. We don’t do fancy meals much so we’re not too sure of our options. We also have a very specific list of things we’re looking for that we were hoping more experienced people might be able to help us with?

We’re looking for something decently fancy with a nice interior, big portions (our guests like to eat. A Lot.), good food of course, and something that won’t break the break.

We were looking at The Dome but there aren’t any reservations open for the day we’re looking for. We’re also interested in The Spence, but the portion sizes don’t seem to be worth it for the price.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you so much!

Question TMJ/TMD assessment & treatment / management in Edinburgh - experiences or recommendations?

Basically as the title - I've had intermittent TMD issues, and a nightime bite guard, for years. My NHS dentist reckons the bite guard is fine. But recently I've had awful "toothache" that moves from to top bottom teeth and earache plus jaw pain all on one side that took me out of action for 24 hours. Joint and massetter muscles were painful even to gently touch. Plus the other month I did a wee bit of snorkeling and after my jaw was agony and actually locked up totally for a few minutes. So clearly it's time to get a bit more proactive here!

I'll be asking my GP for a referral but that might take an age (or they'll tell me to go and ask my dentist - ditto) or generate advice to do what I've already tried - painkillers, heat/cold packs, bite guard, relaxation, soft foods, TMJ exercises... So meanwhile I'm prepared to spend some money - but where?

I'm leaning towards a physio as I think it's tied in with tight neck muscles and shoulder issues / posture.

Has anyone used Edinburgh Sports & Spinal Physio - they seem to specialise in TMD - for this sort of thing?

Or had a good experience eslewhere? I'm prepared to consider anywhere in Edinburgh and area that's doable by public transport!

Thanks for any pointers (or warnings). (No chiropractor recommendations please!)

Discussion Michael McIntyre Hash

I remember watching a Michael McIntyre sketch years ago about him going down to Leith when he went to Edinburgh Uni, to score some hash. There was a line in it about ‘some Chinese guy is at the door’ and something about an electric fire

Cannot find it anywhere online.

Does anybody else remember it?

Question Planting a memorial tree on Blackford Hill

We’d really love to plant a tree or have some kind of memorial thing on Blackford Hill or the parkland around it, in memory of a family member that we lost - Blackford hill v. signicant. I’m assuming this would need permission and there would be a process, if it’s even at all possible. Would anybody know how we’d go about exploring this? Thanks

Question Social groups/clubs

Hi all, I’m relocating from Essex up to Edinburgh early in 2027.

I’m likely to live, initially, somewhere along the West Craig’s/Gyle/Corstophine/Roseburn corridor.

Will be looking to establish new social connections so am interested in any clubs/groups that meet in these areas.

Main interests are music, theatre, walking football, social choirs. Also interested in whether there are any running groups that offer “beginners” events as looking to try and start running a bit more as well.

Oh, and I love a pub quiz!

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hi! I am currently a second year direct entrant student studying Computer Science. I will have my first exam diet (7th December - 18th December) in two months time. At what time would these exams take place (morning, afternoon, evening, etc)? How long do these exams last for and what type of questions show up (MCQs, long-format questions, etc)?

Transport Milton Link rant 😂

Is there any other more frustrating, badly laid out, insufferable road in the city?!

If I remember right they removed the roundabout at Sir Harry Lauder Road and put in traffic lights after a cyclist sadly died, but tailbacks are often way past Asda, and the queue jumpers are unbelievable!

Surely there has to be a better solution?

Event Disappointed by Terror at Conifox

Went to this tonight with a group of friends. And we were all fairly disappointed by the quality of the production. I do want to say the scare actors were doing their best, but they often had no where to jump out from and they were under staffed.

It’s 4 haunted houses with additional rides you can pay for from £6-£8 per ride.

While they were all themed differently, the three main houses were basically the same. Long hallways, the occasional person in a room talking, occasionally jumping out, and HEAVY reliance on nauseating strobe lights.

They were also sending in people too closely together, and when we tried to wait til the group ahead of us was around the corner, it would bunch up all the parties behind us.

The 4th house is a sensory deprivation thing, which the line was very long and we unfortunately had to make our bus back, so had to skip that.

It was £31.50 for tickets, so that’s nearly £8 per house which was 5-10 mins per walk through. There was a firework show which was fine, and a fire spinner, but that was more of a background event than a main event. I will say the DJ, while an odd choice for the event, was crushing it with some serious bangers.

I couldn’t find anyone talking about this event online, so just thought I would write this review.

Question Lothian bus drivers: could you help me?

Hi! I'm brand new to being a power chair user. Tried my chair on the buses for the first time yesterday and really really struggled to manoeuvre it into and out of the space. (Shout out to the drivers for looking out for me - you are amazing!)

I have already contacted Lothian to see if I could practice this at a depot where the chances of me running over someone else's toes are small. However it will take a few days at least to hear back and in the meantime I'd like to practice. I'm going to makeshift the aisle and wheelchair space in my living room using furniture.

So, some questions:

  1. Does anyone know what model the buses typically operated on the 26 route are?

  2. Does anyone know where I might find a floorplan readily available of said bus so that I can find the dimensions of the space?

As I said I have already emailed Lothian but this would really help me in the meantime, especially because even if they accommodate me I will need to get a bus to the depot.
