General Questions M54b25 or m54b22? Any way to tell what engine it is?

Hey, there’s an e46 318i swapped to 2.5i (as the owner says) for sale and I wanna make sure it’s a 2.5 and not a 2.2 or even 2.0. Is there any way to make sure it’s a 2.5?

General Questions Questions regarding bushing and rear subframe

Good morning ladies and gentleman,

I have a 2001 E46 320Ci with 143k km and I'm about to install a B12 pro kit all around.

While I'm in there I'll refresh every suspension/control arm/tie rod component there is to make the car feel new.

This is my weekend car I've owned and fixed for the past 5 years.

Since my plan is to keep the car for a very long time, would it be a good idea to drop the rear subframe, change every bushing + reinforcement plates?

Or do you think I'm fine since there are no weird sound coming from the back.

It's gonna be expensive but worth it since the rubber is 25 y/o

My head gasket has gone and my garage are advising an engine swap as opposed to repairing the current one. Does anyone have any recommendations for reputable places for refurbished engines in UK (Berkshire based)

General Questions 323i vs 320ci

• Upvotes

Just wanting to get some opinions on these local examples,

The 2000 323i is more appealing to me as a model mostly because of the engine and it being a sedan. This example not having a sunroof is also a huge plus for me. It's listed for $2600USD and has 192k miles (310k kms) on the clock. The listing has more info and it's second owner for over a decade, only thing I noticed was the airbag light being on and covered with tape but it has also had the sump and valve cover gaskets, water and power steering pump and radiator hoses done.

The 2005 320Ci is my next pick from what's available, the exterior is apparently in slightly worse condition, it has a somewhat sagging liner and the listing hasn't got as much information on it but it's for $3100USD with 129k miles (208k kms). From the pictures I didn't see anything of immediate note but obviously would be looking at it in person anyway.

I'm just wondering what you guys think would be the better pick? Personally I feel like the M52TU loaded sedan suits my needs more than the coupe, but it's higher mileage + airbag light does make me wonder. I am aware of the things that need to be replaced in these cars and the sorts of extra things that one of higher mileage need to have checked, if I had more info on them I would add it but I'm just putting out feelers.

General Questions E46 Restomod Potential

• Upvotes

Hello Guys ,

i wanted to ask for your opinion.

Do you guys see potential for a Restomod Company to take on the E46 and do a Restomod of it ?

In my opnion it has all the ingredients for it. Timeless design , excellent driving dynamics . The only thing that makes it not so special like a Porsche for example would be that there are plenty of them out there. It doesnt have the rare factor and the prestige.

What do you guys think , im very interested in the topic.

gradually by the drive my e46 leaks coolant like crazy i probably spent $120 on coolant within this month to replace & not overheat i have new waterpump all aluminum installed & the spill seems to follow under the manifold , my assumption made me lean to the heater hose more when i did my oil change & when i lifted the right side a bit higher it leaked coolant more than usual

Check this out! BMW E46 Business CD Bluetooth development — nearly finished

All known bugs fixed, and real-world testing continues... 😏

Unlike existing Bluetooth CD changer emulator adapters, this solution is fully integrated into the radio, so the CD changer and all other original functions remain fully functional. It also supports control through the radio and steering wheel buttons, music and caller info, and custom display texts.

Troubleshooting start looking for a donor block?

This sound started happening only above 2k rpms and follows throughout the entire range, I’ve refreshed the vanos as well as replaced the disa valve, I’m not even sure what this sound could be? Ecu is also adding fuel I’ve checked for vacuum leaks and haven’t found any as well as fuel pressure at the rail is good. Never had any timing or cam codes or anything only ever been lean threw generic o2 codes, etc.

Damage/Broken… 😥 E46 rear subframe

Hey y’all, I recently bought a 2000 BMW E46 323Ci for $2,000. The car looks pretty good for being 26 years old, but I recently noticed a loud clunking noise and found out the passenger-side rear subframe mount has ripped out of the chassis. Has anyone dealt with this before? What repair kit would y’all recommend to fix the damage and reinforce the chassis? I’m planning to do the welding myself, so any advice or recommendations would be appreciated!

General Questions Restore or let go?

Post image

Having trouble deciding what to do with my 320ci. On the surface it looks great, but the sills are rotten, some spots on the floor and the rear subframe mounts have large cracks. I do my own repairs most of the time, but I can not weld. The repair cost would come to around 3500€. Engine is good apart from CCV leaking slightly. Its 175k km. Interior also decent.

Would you consider it worth fixing up? Or just drive it until the end and part it out?

General Questions Schmiedmann charging $250 for shipping taillights. Anyone know a good US source for European parts?

Hey folks.

I looking to replace the 3rd party LED coupe lights the previous owner installed on my 2004 330i.

My car is silver with clear turn lights so I’d like to install the European spec tail light as I like the all clear and red look with no amber.

After doing some research I found that Schmiedmann is considered reliable and has the parts I need (or can order them). However after selecting the parts, which came out to about $350, I found that shipping is about $250 and can take upwards of 2 months for them to acquire before they even ship to me. I don’t mind waiting but this is so long after the purchase that if there any issues I wouldn’t even be able to charge back.

I'm looking for a US supplier, or a better way to get these parts shipped over, so if you've bought European parts recently, I'd appreciate hearing where you went.

For reference I did look at some other sources like FCP Euro and ECS Tuning and found that most either didn’t carry euro spec lights or showed as out of stock with no date indicating they can be acquired.

Troubleshooting N42B20 opening the oil fill cap while engine is running

Is it normal when I open the oil fill cap when the engine is running and it starts spitting oil out the oil refill hole? I understand that those engines have the timing chain in the front and the movement causes the oil to fly up. I also saw other people with the n42 having it spill some oil out but I saw one person with this engine which after opening the oil cap didn't spill any oil out. I recently changed the ccv cause there was positive pressure, now I have negative pressure as it should be but the engine still spits out some oil, is there anybody experienced with those n42 engines, who can tell me if its normal, or should be something to be worried about? The engine currently has 160'000km
