PSA Sub Rule: No FAQ low effort posts + QQ hanging on 30+ year old story elements.

FAQ = Frequently Asked Questions. Subject that have been asked 1000 times and can be answered with a simple search.

FAQ low effort posts;

  • Hypothetical Drizzt movie/series posts.
  • Can I start reading at x book (we literally have a wiki on this).

Then a few conversations that come up a lot which are generally focused on 35 year old books (notably Homeland and Spine of the World)

  • Drizzt/Drow are ebony and not purple subject (Homeland)
  • Wulfgar abuse (Spine of the World)
  • Catti-Brie v Drizzt age (The Crystal Shard)

I have been meaning to do this for a while. We will start small and see what crops up, then can adjust rule from there. As always im open to suggestions. Certainly don't want to dampen creative posts or engaging conversations, so rules may vary if I notice the community is responding well.

Now to make everyone happy here's Drizzt looking like a 1980s mother going for a power walk;

Anyone ever played a campaign that featured our boy Drizzt? Or the major houses of Menzoberranzan?

DnD D&D in the setting of Forgotten Realms - Heroes of DART - Part 2

Link to my first post on getting this group going can be found here

Our stalwart heroes landed in Neverwinter at a good time, as the rebuilding town was under attack by the Sahugian menace, who regularly seem to try and dislodge people from resettling on the ruins of Neverwinter. After they were dispatched and the party helped the wounded guards, they began looking for work in this wild landscape. While many jobs were being offered to adventurers, the one they chose was to locate a missing magical book. It had been discovered in the ruins of the town and stolen by a mage from the Host Tower. The mage got out of town right away, fleeing into Neverwinter wood with his prize, but that was over a ten day ago, and no one has seen him since, but guards did find a campsite he used, but no other clues.

The party found the campsite and encountered some werewolves. Many fled, and an injured one was left behind, who the party healed and interrogated. She revealed that the mage in question had been tracked by the werewolves, and that she knew where he was and would trade that information for her freedom. Turns out the mage had fought and killed werewolves, and they wanted revenge, while the party hadn't killed any of the creatures.

The party found the mage, an Elf Wizard, in a ruined underground temple of some kind and got the drop on him, capturing him with no damage done or lives lost. The party then recovered the book and sent the Elf to his punishment amongst the werewolves.

A few notes now on this book as we look behind the curtain. Anyone who holds the book has to make a Wisdom saving throw or be compelled to use it to summon demons. It's a book of demonic summoning and will summon one at random every d6 days as well. The party's Monk held it first and was caught by it's spell, but passed another save later before summoning anything and was able to inform the party of the dangers of the item. He then handed it off to the Druid, who put it into a bag of holding immediately, and passed his save from touching the book. First tests passed for the party.

The book does leave behind an evil aura and has a sort of Pied Piper situation. The emanations of the book stay on the people who last held it, and the book's evil aura draws evil creatures who fail Wisdom saving throws, or who just plain answer to the call. This got them a few times.

The first night they made camp, a Shadow Demon attacked them. After dispatching it, they didn't really know anything was amiss. They passed some soldiers that were on their way to Neverwinter the next day, but didn't stop to chat with them much, explaining they were on a mission from DART. There was a Wizard amongst the soldiers, dispatched from the Host Tower to look into the disappearance of the book, but the party avoided him.

The next day they encountered more soldiers, but this time they were fighting Sahugian on the road. Members of this patrol had been wounded, but they were not alone, as in the skies and fighting with the soldiers was a gold dragon. Once the battle is over, the soldiers say they were riding hard to catch up to the last patrol the party had seen, as the Wizard in their midst was likely an imposter! The soldiers went on their way with thanks to the party for assistance and healing, but the dragon stuck around to chat up the party. Mivervi is a 6 year old out on her own for the very first time from her father's lair. She heard that the areas around Neverwinter were dangerous and came to check it out. The party tells Mivervi that there are countless Sahugian out in the waters and around the coastal areas, creating problems for people. She promises to look around for their lair and help gather information in exchange for some stories of the deeds of the party; they obviously agree.

Later that same day, the party is foraging for food when Argento tries vainly to spear a fish in the ocean and mistakenly upsets a crab. This interaction feels like fate to Argento, who takes the crab as a pet. The crab is named Hank.

Days go by without much action before the party is set to arrive in Luskan, but are ambushed by enemies less than a day from the city. Goblins and Bugbears try to ambush them, but are crushed by the party. The party members who have touched the book are doing well on their saves up to this point, and are not under the spell of the book. As a result, when they arrive in Luskan, they are under their own control and doing rather well, all things considered.

When I next have the time to write out some of what the party has done, they will meet the owner of "One Eyed Jack's", the most popular and well attended inn and eatery in not only Luskan, but it is a chain that has locations down the Sword Coast. That post will have to have the spoiler tag, as I am operating this universe in the time AFTER Finest Edge of Twilight, and so a lot of stuff is different on the Sword Coast than it was back in The Crystal Shard.

🕯️General Discussion Just finished Finest Edge of Twilight

I just finished the first Breezy book Finest Edge of Twilight... decent enough, just struggled through until some of the more meaningul characters popped who are some of my favourites into the book. I think i would continue to read some more if the series was continued, there's a lot of growth and plenty more scope for others to take a pop at Drizzt's daughter.

Nice take on the vampire villain that who popped back in, didnt expect ... 7/10 .

Thoughts overall?

🕯️General Discussion Was Jarlaxle inspired by a mushroom?

Just hear me out:

  1. He's insane, illegal and comes in hallucinogenic colours.

  2. He has a giant purple hat. There is literally a mushroom called the amethyst deceiver.

  3. He's from a mushroomy place.

  4. He spreads everywhere! Likes to make mutually beneficial alliances (symbiosis) and has a wide net of connections (mycelium).

  5. Can thrive anywhere and evolves into more and more world-conquering varieties.

  6. He's unique and mysterious, a species all his own, like mushrooms when they refuse to just be plants.

  7. Very perplexing for scientists, even illithid ones.

  8. He once made himself a mushroom-shaped throne.

  9. Gromph once tried to insult him by giving him a sword with a mushroom handle. Was he onto something?

🕯️General Discussion I understand why my father gave me this Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
122 Upvotes

My father is more of a car guy and an introvert, it’s hard to talk with him, as I’m an introvert also, and into games; but he gave me this on my fifteenth birthday: I never understood why; but I did understand the appeal, I liked fantasy, character development and long story’s, Star Wars is/was my favorite thing at said time.

I finished book one very interested, one scene of him rejecting the maiden peeked my interest, then the second came along as I read it: I was struck by the tone, it was a mix of shame, and eager to get everything right: trying to find and fix himself per say. I read the third but it didn’t interest me as much, but I loved the character and relationship between him and our loving cat, that I’ve since moved onto the forth, which I’m in the middle of (hate this wizard as much as the barbarian king after that one scene where they meet).

Yet, to link this back around; I and my father, had some… difficult childhoods… not from each other, regardless of how often we interact, we love each other. Yet, one event happened to both of us, which we don’t talk about: the reason though this character connects us, is, (I believe) based off the idea of the… (don’t know how to put this honestly).

Sensitive, or empathetic, or emotional man; best example is in the third book I think, where that man is begging to be killed, bounty hunter I believe: don’t get me wrong, my father is strong, vet and all; but I see he deals with things like I do, shuts everything out; no music, no talking, no hobbies to disturb: he has his own room that he locks, or goes to his bedroom, and blocks everything out: same as I.

In a sense, I felt both me, and my father, within this character, as he solely relied on our lovable friend Guenhwyvar: each of us have something to hold onto, rely on like Drizzt; each of us fight this, ‘beast’ inside us. I see it every day in him, but, he never explodes oddly enough, nor do I tend to, I think he sees it in me sometimes, he randomly asks if I’m ‘okay’, not, ‘are you doing alright’, but ‘okay’ while gazing into my soul; I think some will know what I mean.

He and I are closer now because of this book as we talk about it… strangely, it almost feels like an heirloom per se. a gift that I would only understand as I got older, which is probably why I started reading them about two years ago now: anyway, this is my rant/vent per se, good book, definitely passing it down to my son, (if I have one, still young adult), but in a way, I also hope my son ‘doesn’t’ understand/perceive it in the way my father and I do; I haven’t gotten far, but I think Drizzt is my favorite character of all time, and deserves a faithful adaptation: the world needs this kind of man again, but I doubt many will like or understand him fully, since most are obsessed with ‘peak masculinity’:

Till we speak again friends.

❄️Pre-Iruladoon (Transitions) Anyone else cry over the letter to Dwahvel Tiggerwillies? Spoiler

Maybe because I’m listening to the audio books and the voice actor is so great, but I’ve been so emotional as an older male by Wolfgar, Entreri, and the Auckney arc.

Dwahvel is described and acts like my wife.

❄️Pre-Iruladoon (Transitions) Finished Homeland: First time Reader

Just for a little background information, I'm not a D&D player. Honestly, I don't know anything about it. I've just heard about this series through the fantasy grapevine. I heard a lot about this being a starter fantasy series and pretty basic, but I was really interested in the premise.

I finished reading Homeland yesterday and I have to say that I really love the character of Drizzt. I really found myself connected to him and seeing a lot of my own personality traits in him. (Other than being a drow and being a proficient dual wielding master) I really felt Drizzt's struggle with finding himself, who he is and what he stands for, how he fits in with his family, and his urge for companionship. He grew up in a horrible world which did not care about him one bit, even his own flesh and blood (especially them). I really loved the dynamics with Zak and finding some kind of male figure in his life to look up to as I have had this same kind of thing in my own life. Also, finding true companionship in Guenhwyvar warmed my heart as I have always had a strong connection with animals. Seeing Drizzt's constant struggle and fight within himself to hold to his morals and not change who he is based on his surroundings is a really admirable trait. I think it provides very important lessons for people to learn about their own lives and how society will try to change you to fit their mold rather than you finding your own path. Especially in our current age of social media and cancel culture for not conforming to everyone else's beliefs.

In a society where there is darkness, chaos, mayhem, death, sadness, and a struggle to wake up and get out of bed each day, we move forward believing in ourselves and what we stand for. We look for even the smallest flash of light within the darkness and forge our path to find who we are, stick to our own morals and humanity no matter what social pressures tell us, and find meaning in our lives and the world we live in.

"Do more than survive, my son, as I have survived. Live! Be true to the callings in your heart."

🕯️General Discussion Guenhwyvar size

Post image
403 Upvotes

I'm planing on making a guenhwyvar figure in a similar style of the catti brie and drizzt modern icons figures from GameStop. What I'm trying to figure out is how big I should make her in the visual dictionary she is 5ft on all fours making her only four inches shorter than drizzt. This seams slightly excessive and would cause the base to be double or triple when compared to the drizzt and catti brie base.

Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated thanks
