It's game day! 

Rumble in the Jungle VI, the sixth edition of our Ability Draft tournament, starts today at 17:00 CEST (11:00 EST).

Eight teams, four match days, every game casted live on two streams.

The Teams

11 teams signed up this year. The 7 highest seeds by average Ability Draft rating (from windrun.io, the site that tracks and ranks AD players) were invited straight into the main event and the last spot went through a qualifier last Saturday, where Old Ravens beat Playlist and Mallards to get in.

Burger Boys enter as the #1 seed with an all-Immortal roster led by Erik (3982, #21 on the leaderboard). Defending champion TMNT are right behind them and have the highest average rating in the field, plus Lost, at 4119 the highest-rated player of the tournament and worldwide.

Group A looks like the tighter group on paper: Vikings, GYM Esports and Old Ravens are all within 200 rating points of each other, so the race for the second upper-bracket spot should be a close one.

Today's Schedule (all times CEST, everyone plays everyone in their group, Bo1)

The top 2 of each group start tomorrow in the upper bracket, 3rd and 4th in the lower bracket. Playoffs are double elimination (Bo3) on Sunday Oct 18 and next weekend, with a Bo5 Grand Final on Sunday Oct 25.

Why Ability Draft works as a tournament mode now

The classic argument against competitive AD was the model lottery: one team lucks into the strong hero bodies and the game is over in the loading screen.

That's outdated. Since hero model selection became part of the draft, your model is a pick, just like your abilities. Reading the pool, weighing a strong body against a strong ability and denying the enemy their combo pieces is the actual skill now. We play pure, unmodified Ability Draft, exactly what you queue into.

Prediction game

Over 40 people have already locked in their picks: every match, both groups, the final table and a Crystal Ball (most kills, highest GPM, Feeder of the Rumble, ...). The crowd is very sure about one thing so far: 69% have TMNT lifting the trophy.

Just found out that my local community is helding a tournament for Dota 2 players which never happened back in my day. Late game is real

Saw this on X and really liked the alternate head design without the round eye and teeth.

I think it would look much better with Terrorblade's Arcana, especially for those of us who prefer the original Arcana aesthetic.

Would be great if Valve could add this as a second selectable style while keeping the current one.

I’m back with another big update to my Underlord guide! If you don’t know me, I used to be the #1 Underlord on Dotabuff. I took a long break from Dota, came back a while ago, and I’ve been grinding to bring my old ideas up to date with the current patch.

My last update was all about Firestorm spam. This one goes back to what Underlord does best: catching people and not letting them leave. It’s for players who like hunting people down and making the enemy team scared to walk anywhere alone.

The build

• Soul Ring + Arcane Boots: your spells cost a lot of mana early. These keep you casting nonstop.
• Rod of Atos: your catch. Root whoever’s out of position, then drop Pit and Firestorm on them.
• Aghanim’s Shard: Firestorm follows you, so just walk into their team and let everything burn.
• Gleipnir: upgrade Atos into it. Its root hits a big area, so you can catch a few heroes at once.
• Aghanim’s Scepter: your Fiend’s Gate drops a Pit at both ends, so they get rooted the moment you show up.
• Crella’s Crozier: cuts their healing, which is brutal against late-game Satanic carries. The active makes you immune to physical damage, which is perfect against right-clickers like Terrorblade. Cast Firestorm on yourself with Shard, pop Crozier and walk through them: you steal their speed, they burn longer and Pit roots them again. Avoid using it in front of mages. If they buy Nullifier for you, that’s gold they didn’t spend on your team.

The build is flexible. Read the game and adjust. Swap in Shiva’s Guard if you need more armor and slow, or move items around depending on what the enemy has. As long as you keep catching people, you’re doing it right.

The combo: Pit, then Gleipnir, then Pit roots them again. A stun from a teammate buys time for one more root.

Catch them. Root them. Root them again. They wanted to leave, but the Pit had other plans.

I just want to get out of Guardian.

One fun way to make sure you hit torrent and x marks the spot combo is to sing the forst 3 ha's in stayin alive right after you cast X and use torrent after the third ha. Always works for me.

You can also do the another bites the dust beat for it too.
