This is a list of frequently asked questions and repeated topics that appear on this subreddit. Please either read this before posting, or read this as you've likely been directed here from a post removal. Here is Depop's own Help Centre: https://depophelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb
GENERAL QUESTIONS:
- Q: Am I being scammed?/Is this a scam?
A: Read the scam FAQ here
Q: How do I get in contact with Depop?
A: Send Depop an email via their help desk.
Q: I was banned, what do I do?
A: You'll have an option to appeal your ban in your ban email. Write a proper, comprehensive response and apology to them. If they reject you, there's nothing you can do.
Q: Am I required to put my SSN/verify my identity?
A: Yes, it's required for tax purposes. It is perfectly safe to do so.
Q: What do I do about a false negative or retaliation review?
A: If you think a negative review is inaccurate, you can email Depop support or contact them via their helpdesk by pressing "request feedback removal" to get it removed. In the case of retaliation reviews, Depop will most likely remove reviews that were obviously just created to get back at you for your negative review towards them, as retaliatory reviews aren't allowed. It should be noted sometimes Depop won't remove reviews that are above 3 or stars or above.
Q: Depop, via email, is asking me for friends/family payment via Paypal?
A: This is being asked more and more on this sub, and we remove these posts now as they're always full of users in the comments spreading misinformation that this is a scam. If this was sent by Depop's official support email (support@depophelp.zendesk.com), then it isn't a scam. No one knows exactly why they ask for it this way, but if you don't feel comfortable paying that way, tell them that or open a seperate support ticket.
Q: How do I cancel a sale?
A: Only sellers can cancel a sale. Read down below under "how do I refund a buyer."
QUESTIONS FROM BUYERS:
- Q: How long do sellers have to ship?/When should I message the seller about an item that hasn't been shipped?
A: Sellers should ship in 5 days, contact them on the 4th or 5th date if they have not. After 10 business days, you will be auto-refunded (Not available for all countries.) Open a case/claim with Depop if you don't have the auto refunding option, or you haven't received the refund after the 10 business days.
Q: How do I open a case?
A: Click “Get help with this purchase” at the bottom of your purchase receipt, and follow the instructions, or contact them via the support page listed above.
Q: When can I open a case?
A: You have the option to open a case after 5 days.
Q: How long do I have to open a claim?
A: If you paid via Depop payments, generally you have 30 days to open a claim, but in the case of a seller not shipping, some users have had success via contacting Depop directly even if it's over 30 days. If you used Paypal, you have 180 days to file a claim.
Q: Seller deleted account/was banned/blocked me?
A: Wait 5 days from purchase, then file a claim.
Q: Seller hasn't given me a tracking number?
A: Message the seller first and ask for it. If they refuse, or make excuses, you can open a case/claim. We suggest you give it a few days as tracking can take a while to update depending on the country/courier.
Q: Tracking isn’t updating?
A: This is very normal, and is often a courier issue, wait 5 business days and then contact the seller and/or courier service.
Q: I was sold an item that's not as described/arrived with damage not listed in description/wrong size than in description?
A: File a claim using the above method. You will likely need to return the item back to the seller, which Depop will provide a label and cover shipping costs. If you would like to keep the item or don't feel like it's worth a full refund, you can discuss a partial refund with the seller. Note that this isn't guaranteed because the seller has to agree.
Q: I was sold a fake?
A: File a claim. If the seller can't prove the item is real, you'll get a refund. In that case, Depop sometimes requires you to send it back, which they will help you with. They may also tell you you don't have to send it back and just to discard the item. Do not resell the item as selling fakes is illegal.
Q: I was sold a fake and the seller is claiming it's real/they're not sure if it's real or not?
A: File a claim anyway. If you can prove the item is real, and they can't prove it's real, you'll get a refund. It doesn't matter if they claim it's real or they don't know if it's fake or real. Selling fakes is illegal.
Q: Item came smelling like cigarettes, animals, food, body odor etc., what do I do?
A: Depop doesn't do reviews based on smells and it's impossible to prove and can be easily lied about. You can message the seller asking for a refund/return, or you can try yourself to clean the item. There's numerous tutorials online about how to get certain smells out of clothes using different products.
QUESTIONS FROM SELLERS:
- Q: How to refund a buyer?
A: Sellers are the ones who have the cancel the sale. Click “Refund” on your sale receipt. Select either full or partial refund, you should only partially refund if the buyer/Depop has told you to/agreed. You DO NOT lose money when you fully refund, you will be reinbursed for fees afterwards
Q: Buyer wants to change address after purchase (before shipping)?
A: Refund them using the process listed above. Let them change it, then repurchase.
Q: Buyer wants a refund because of sizing issues?
A: Under Depop TOS, you aren't required to refund as long as you listed the item with the correct sizing and measurements. Let the buyer know that, and if they open a case, they won't win. If you have listed the wrong size/measurements, they will likely be refunded.
Q: Buyer wants a refund for change of mind?
A: Although you aren't required to refund for change of mind, if you haven't shipped, it's better to just refund them. If you have shipped, you can either accept a return (only refund once you have received the item), or you can tell them to just repop once they receive it if you don't want to refund.
Q: Account has 0 reviews/sales?
A: Everyone starts somewhere, read our Scam FAQ to help identify scammers.
Q: How to get my sales?/How do I start on Depop?
A: This question is asked almost daily, and all the answers are always the same. If you need a direct answer, please use the subreddit search bar. Otherwise the simple answer is: good, clear photos, consistently listing items and using correct tags and descriptions. We have a pinned post on the front page of the subreddit for shop critiques if you need help with that as well.
COMMON TOPICS:
These are topics discussed very often on this sub, ranging from multiple posts a day to multiple a week all discussing the same thing, with the same rant, with the same answers. To keep this sub not being so repetitive, your post will likely be removed if it's one of these topics, and we suggest finding the most recent thread discussing it.
T: Depop is slow/My items aren’t selling: There are MULTIPLE reasons for this, slow periods on every site is normal, please search the sub for tips, general ones include: post every day, have good photos, respond to buyers quickly etc. There are threads daily posted about this, all with the same answers.
T: I was banned: Refer to the answer above as to what to do. Otherwise there's nothing this sub can do to help you if you were banned and we don't need daily posts about users being banned either. All posts about being banned will be removed.
T: Lowballs/Offers: Depop is a reselling site, you will get lowballs/lowballers, thats just the way it is! Offers on Depop are currently not-biding, an offer isnt a sale, a lot of people will flake, this in normal!
T: Depop is down: If depop is down, there will be a pinned discussion post with information.
T: My listing was removed: Depop has a list of items/listings that are prohibited: here. You can appeal this decision by emailing. DO NOT repost the item without permission from Depop.
T: Shein/Aliexpress Resellers: Although it's scummy, sellers overpricing items from those sites is not against TOS, so theres bound to be plenty of people who do this for a quick buck. You won't fall for these scams if you reverse image search and do your research before you buy. Mislabelling the brand is against TOS and can be reported.
T: Sellers not shipping: If you have a question related to this, please read the questions above. We understand the frustation in a seller not shipping, but we don't need multiple threads a day discussing it.
T: Resellers: Reselling is a major part of Depop and it's something you'll have to put up with when using the app. People reselling for a higher price, while scummy, is not against TOS. We get frequent rants and posts about this and more aren't needed. You can refer to r/depoop if you have a post related to someone overpricing.
T: Item's smelling of cologne/perfume: This is a frequent topic discussed so posts mentioning this will likely be removed. Please refer to previous post threads about the same thing.
Misc. Why is everyone so lazy?
Everyone on this app is so damn lazy I swear! I‘m starting to get concerned! I write incredibly detailed but easy to read descriptions and take clear quality photos but everyday someone is messaging me to ask me a question that is answered in BOTH places on the listing!
Someone just asked me a question about something the is literally visible in the THIRD PHOTO! you can’t scroll through 3 photos at least??? It’s driving me insane lol I try to be as nice as possible because I don’t want to argue with anyone or ruin a potential sale but everyday I’m fighting the urge to lash out at ppl who do this.

Story First seller from hell :(
I never left them a review yet. I was blocked immediately after bringing up the issue privately, only for them to publicly accuse me of damaging goods. I’ve paid out of pocket to return the item, but now im being harassed by new accounts about this same dispute. I just wanted a simple refund :( I don’t think there’s much more I can do

Story repoped my item for 29x the price
I sold a pair of vintage Levi’s for cheap because they had wear and tear on them. When I saw a reseller bought them, I knew they would be reselling them. That’s fine, I was willing to sell them cheap, because I don’t want items sitting for sale forever. However, i was not expecting them to have an asking price 29x the price they paid, it’s insanity.

Dispute Help Depop closed my buyers issue but then I received my item back?
Hi, I recently had a buyer complain about the wear on a product I shipped. I wrote in the description there was some wear on it and the last picture showed close ups. I did accidentally have it categorized as “like new” so I felt bad and agreed to do a return. I got this email a few days ago and just assumed the buyer didn’t care anymore (they had opened up the issue twice and missed the return window for the second time now). I just checked my mail and see they did ship it back to me. I haven’t received any new messages from them but what should I do? Do I just refund them myself through the app or should I reach out to Depop support or just wait for the buyer to reach out to support? I am not sure if I refund them myself they might be able to get a second refund. Just unsure how this all works and confused. Would appreciate any help!
Also I’d like to avoid messaging the buyer as much as possible! I found them difficult to work with.

Positive Experiences Got some “cat” bags with my order
Hello fellow Sellers/Buyers.
I just got a package which has a bunch of Walmart plastic bags that were used to add cushioning, and I am not sure if this is the correct flair but the reason I find this to be a positive experience is because I have come to appreciate plastic bags in a whole different sense and since our state banned their use except for meat at the store I guess! I have two indoor cats and so these bags come in handy when I clean their litter boxes :) also waste baskets around the house, so if you out there use recycled material to pack or add cushioning to packages and use plastic bags, know that I appreciate it !! :))

Messages/DM's First time I’ve encountered this:(
I’ve been buying off Depop for years and started selling recently. This is my first text encounter like that, and I’m just kind of taken aback haha. Thought this was a reasonable question when they include stain pictures

Question Depop seller shipping to a US processing centre before my address in Australia.
So basically, I purchased an item on the 19th.
The tracking says USPS accepted it on the 21st, and initially it was expected to be delivered on the 24th. That obviously didn’t sound right because I’m all the way in Australia, so how would it make it here in such a short amount of time???
I checked the postal service, and it said USPS Ground Advantage, which is apparently a domestic US service. I contacted the seller, and that was her response ^ I’m so confused as to why she didn’t use a direct international shipping service?? I feel like that would’ve made things much simpler for both of us.
Now the tracking says it’s arriving on the 23rd, which is concerning because I’m assuming it will show as delivered on Depop while I’m still waiting for my package.
I contacted Australia Post, and they said they don’t recognise the tracking number. I also asked her multiple times if she was comfortable shipping to Australia, and she said yes without mentioning this forwarding process. I feel like that’s something she should’ve told me before I purchased, especially if the tracking will show as delivered before the item actually reaches me.
Btw I’m not accusing the seller of anything :) I just want some clarification because I’ve never shipped internationally through Depop before.
Please let me know if this normal/safe on Depop, or should I be concerned? Pleaseeeee help me out 🥲

Story Buyer raised an issue as “item not as described”
I purchased 6 jars from EBay. The seller discounts these because they are coming up on their “best by date”. I decided to list one because I knew I wouldn’t finish it before the best by date. I sold this for like $9.
In my picture, you can clearly see the dates. Also, I’ve been eating on the other jars and there is no weird smell and it still tastes fresh.
I refunded the money because I didn’t want a bad review. I’m relatively new to Depop and have a stellar rating. I’m just frustrated that this buyer basically claimed my listing was inaccurate.

Buying Help should i message the seller first or get in contact with depop regarding a refund/return
first time i received an item that does not fit with the listed condition. the shoes received were a peeling mess- not at all “excellent condition.” :/
i messaged the seller first to let her know-
but i wonder if perhaps i should get in contact with depop first - not sure the correct way to go about this.
what do you guys suggest? thanks :)
edit: also,
for the future i’ll stay away from brand new sellers with just a couple of reviews :/
that’s on me.

Question Depop balance withdraw / payments withheld
Howdy y'all!
I'm new to Depop and have been on here for about 2 weeks. Well, I got my first order and was hooked, and I've been shipping out something EVERY DAY! Sadly, I have not been paid yet- the first order was bought on 10/10/26, shipped out on 10/13/2026, and delivered on 10/19/26. They left me a review on 10/20/26.
When I click 'My Depop', 'Sold', 'Completed ', and scroll down to this listing, it shows, 'Item delivered. You've been paid.' & "You've received $1.44".
However, my DEPOP balance shows $0.00 with $560.80 pending (at the time I am writing this). And it has a grey button that says, 'No balance to withdraw'.
I always use DEPOPs' shipping label; my account has the correct bank and card details. ( I am unsure if I verified, but I think I did & confirmed my email and turned on 2-factor Authenticator.) I just updated the app, and still no change.
I'm very concerned because I still have many items in transit and want to use this app to cover my rent. I have tried the AI help and am waiting 48hrs for (hopefully) a real human to contact me. Is there something I missed? Do I need to wait longer? Is this normal?

Dispute Help Potential sizing misrepresentation advice
I purchased a cropped top that was listed as a size XS or US 0/2. The seller did caution that it had little stretch and said to pay attention to the measurements, which they listed from the brand's website (32" bust and 24/25" waist). As someone who is a solid size 0 and matches those measurements, I figured it would work for me.
I received the top today and it is TINY. It almost looks like it was made for a child/preteen. The sleeves were super tight on me, and I could barely zip up the back. I don't mind it being cropped and tighter on the bust, but the sleeves make it unwearable for me. And this is coming from someone with a small frame and what they call "noodle arms" lol!
I reached out to the seller asking if they would accept a return, but if they don't, would it be fair for me to escalate to Depop? I know returns aren't accepted for not liking the fit, but I do feel like they misrepresented exactly how tiny this top is - I legit cannot wear it. At the same time, I suppose I could have asked for more specific measurements.
I've had bad luck with my secondhand purchases recently, and none of my current ones are selling, so I really don't want to be stuck with something else I cannot wear :( Any kind advice would be appreciated!

Question new depop seller reused shipping label to ship item after it got sent back to their house
So i purchased an item from a new seller and thought it would be a normal transaction. Item ended up getting sent back to seller’s address so i got scared and assumed i was scammed bc ive never had that happen before. Depop issues me the refund for the item saying it was unable to be delivered. The seller messages me that there was an issue with shipping (i think the package was overweight?), so i trusted them and repurchased the item again so they could ship it out with the NEW label. Apparently they shipped it out again but with the OLD label so im not getting any updates on the item because the tracking is just stuck saying its delivered to the sellers house. The seller then ships out the new label just to ship it out because the app was set to refund me if they didn’t ship anything with the NEW label. They said it’s just an empty bag. I have yet to receive the original item i’ve purchased and i would assume it should definitely be delivered by now if they let this person reship with the used label.
Can I open a dispute whenever the empty bag arrives because I think I got scammed. The seller said they’d contact USPS and ask where the item is but google says USPS would only tell them that the last scan was delivered to the sellers address even if they shipped it out again and reused the same label (is this true?)
PLS help idk what to do :,( im just gonna receive an empty bag next week. idk if they actually reshipped or if its just missing now but i want my money back. I feel like if it really went through the system again it should be delivered by now, thats why i think i got scammed because i still dont have the item.

Selling Help While creating new listings… “Large” items (under 2 lbs) are now $5.99 to ship, just like “Extra large” (under 10 lbs)??? — The AI help bot still insists it should be $3.99…
Did this change recently? The higher pricing shows up if you select the “Set shipping discount” menu while creating a listing.
