❓Need Advice 🙏 Crypto wallet.
Attempting to access my deceased son’s crypto account, unfortunately I don’t have correct email/password. What are my other options, if any?

Sorry for your loss, if it is a centralized exchange, you can go to claim section and upload certificate. Good luck,

I'm really sorry for your loss. First, try to identify whether it was an exchange account or a self-custody wallet, because the recovery process is very different. If it was an exchange, contact their official support and ask about their process for deceased account holders.

Good questions. One more thing for OP: if his old phone or laptop is still around, don’t wipe or reset it. That may be where the wallet lives.

Keep all discussions about this public, but share no PII, stay vague.
Answering these questions will help good intentioned people help you:
Do you know if they held on an exchange? If yes, they're likely KYC'ed there and have their SSN or equivalent associated with their account.
Do you have their personal computers and/or phones? If yes, DO NOT send these to anyone.
Do you have access to their personal belongings? You might find information about holdings or their seed phrases here. Or you might find a hardware wallet.
Do not trust ANYONE.

Good list. I’d add: if it’s an exchange, only contact them through their official website, never through a link someone sends you. And I’m so sorry for your loss, OP.

Do not respond to DM's, they are from scammers.
Do you mean self custody wallet or an account on an exchange?

sorry for your loss, that's a rough situation. without seed phrase or private key there's basically no way in, exchanges might help if he used one but they'll need death certificate and legal stuff

A few words about safety:
- Scammers will often target beginners so you should exercise extra caution
- Do not trust anyone trying to talk with you over DM (Direct or private messages) or on another platform (like Discord or Telegram). This is how scammers prefer to operate. Report suspicious activity like this immediately and do not respond to them.
- Do not post your address, balances, or other personal information.

There's two types of storage:
Self custody: where the user holds cryptographic keys that are used to spend the crypto. This is typically in the form of a "mnemonic" which is usually 12-24 words.
Centralized Custody: Where you have a service, like coinbase, who store your crypto on your behalf.
For the latter, if you know where it's stored, there are typically processes to regain control of someones account. You would have to reach out to support.
It would help if you knew where it's stored so you can start planning next steps. Be VERY VERY careful of anyone reaching out to you, everyone will try to scam you. I'm happy to assist you on this public forum, please let me know if you have any questions, I will not DM you.
