Ruined cruise? Rookie mistakes...

I think I messed up... We are set to sail end of November for 11 days on the Brilliant Lady (Virgin).

My Wife and I never cruised before so we know absolutely nothing about it. This is pretty much our first "real" vacation and I think I already ruined our trip due to my lack of research and planning.

Although I was absolutely aware weeks ago that pre-booking dinner/brunch and excursion reservations opened up I assumed I had time to figure all that out. I couldn't have been more wrong!

All the (better) dinning options and most of the excursions I think we would enjoy are completely booked! Although they say that you can check daily for (dining) cancelations I feel like I ruined our chances of truly enjoying this voyage especially considering there is no option to book the "sold out" excursions.

Is this trip "salvagable" at this point?

Again... 100% my fault for not being proactive but in my defense... I don't even know what to eat for dinner tonight much less months from now.

Any thoughts/suggestions greatly appreciated...

Carnival Venezia skipping Martineque visit due to "Security Concerns"

Currently aboard Carnival Venezia, which we have been told will no longer stop in Martinique due to "Security Concerns." I haven't seen any news reports supporting this. Is this just in response to the security situation in France?

Choosing a cruise: destinations vs ship

Hello cruises, I was wondering if you guys prefer to pick your cruises based on the destination or the ship themselves, or has that changed the more you cruise?
I ask only because I just booked my third ever cruise Norwegian Prima 1/3/2027-1/10/2027 southern carribean and it took me so long to pick. Took me hours of research and figuring out what I want for my next vacation. I had to pick within the first half of January, I wanted to visit new islands, as I’ve already been to the western, eastern and northern Carribean, I needed it to be within a price range because I’m not rich and I wanted a ship that will keep me busy during sea days and this one was the perfect balance. I’m bummed the ship doesn’t have more water activities or free amenities and the first half of the itinerary has islands I was at last time I cruised, but I’m excited to explore and relax nonetheless. I’ve already done western through carnival and eastern through Norwegian. I was hoping to do southern through Royal but I could not find the perfect royal cruise within my requirements.

How do you guys pick your sailings/ships? I’m curious as to your process of picking a cruise. I love the idea of having everything I need and want within the ship while also getting to see multiple beautiful places. Thank you in advanced for the advice and experiences!

Are the private islands worth it?

1st time cruiser...I am still in the researching phase. I am deciding between Royal and Carnival. Are the private islands worth it? I would pretty much just like it for the beach. We are going in February, it's just me and my partner, we are both late 40s but very active. I really want to do some excursions of maybe historical sites or something. That's really only one thing I absolutely want to do, other than maybe some water sports. We live in the PNW but will probably fly to Florida. Looking for a 7 ish day cruise.

Edit: I didn’t realize I would get so many comments. I hope it’s not too late to ask this follow up question.
Are there going to be other places that we can get off and hang out on the beach? I know you don’t know those specific trip we are going on and neither do we but in general do most of them have places to get off and hang out on some beach for the day?

Question What are your thoughts on the extra costs of cruising solo?

Good evening. I’ve been on a few cruises and always love that feeling of being out at sea, with a balcony to myself and the freedom to enjoy the journey at my own pace. But one thing I’ve never quite understood is why travelling alone often costs so much more. I seem to end up paying almost double for a cabin, even though it’s just me. Perhaps I’m looking in the wrong places, but surely there must be a better way for those of us who simply enjoy travelling alone, don’t you think?

Question NCL Joy VS MSC Seaside... What do you think for Solo Cruising?

Just found both these lines to have the most aggressive rates on Solo Cruising. Looks as though ships are practically the same size and age. Any recommendations? Also, how would you compare each or either if you have sailed Royal Caribbean before? thank you!

Disembarking Question

Hello! My wife and I are going on our first Royal Caribbean cruise at the end of this month. We are on Brilliance of the Seas and on our last day, we dock in Barcelona at 5am and the gangway is posted as being down at 6:45am. Our international flight home is from Terminal 1 in Barcelona’s airport at 10:30am. I talked to a Royal representative and they said we should be able to get off the ship no later than 7:30am and I know it’s a pretty short ride to the airport, but will we have enough time to make our flight? We plan to do self luggage off and we also have the Key Pass for priority disembarking. Thanks!

Interconnecting cabin noise

For ages I’ve wanted to book a mystery cruise with Fred Olsen (uk line). They book up very very fast and I have always missed out. I’ve finally been able to book onto the February 2028 one but my cheapest option is interconnecting oceanview cabins. Yes all inside cabins are fully sold out. I’m solo traveller and solo cabins are sold out. So cheapest for anyone solo or not is now oceanview but interconnecting. How much of this is a noise issue? Fred Olsen and the ship Bolette is not adults only but uk folks will not be bringing kids on Fred Olsen. It’s a line aimed at like 60+. I know interconnecting cabins are more common among the USA lines as this ship was an old Holland America one hence the cabin.

News Norwegian Bella: NCL’s Final Prima Class Ship Looks a Lot Like Aura

Looks like we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Norwegian Bella, the final ship in NCL’s Prima Class.

Based on the details released so far, Bella looks like it will be very similar to Norwegian Aura, with no major differences jumping out yet. What is weird to me is that deck plans haven’t been released, but the ship’s listed features look largely identical to Aura’s.

Bella is scheduled to spend its inaugural season sailing seven day Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona, running from May through October 2028. Those are the only itineraries currently available, and NCL hasn’t announced where the ship will go afterward or whether it will cross the Atlantic to sail from a US homeport.

What do you think? Is another ship similar to Aura what you expected, or were you hoping NCL would make some bigger changes for the final Prima Class ship?

Question Uber? Shuttle? Drive? What’s the best for a one-way cruise!

hi! I’m based in orlando and heading out on a one way cruise to PR next month. I’m usually lucky enough to drive and park at Port Canaveral, but this specific itinerary is dropping us off in San Juan, so I’ll have to fly back to MCO.

Does anyone have any tips on the best way to get to Port Canaveral on embarkation day? I’m considering Ubering to the airport or the Lee Vista area to catch a shuttle, or possibly Ubering from the I-Drive area. Would love to hear what’s worked best for y’all! 🫡

Excursions in Roatan?

Looking for recommendations for excursions in Roatán, Honduras! 🌴🚢
I know booking outside the cruise line is a gamble, but I also know you can have a great time for a whole lot cheaper!
What are some of your favorite excursions or local tour companies? Looking for fun experiences, hidden gems, and real recommendations. Thanks! 🤙

Your recommendations please!

Hello!

I am helping my friend plan a cruise for her 40th in June 2028 & your insight would be helpful!

Background
Birthday Girl has friends and families all with kids ranging from 8 months old to 6 years old. We are talking, like 30 people at least that she wants to invite. She would love to get away on a trip and loves the “all-inclusive” type vibe that a cruise offers to offer value to her people.

We are based in Melbourne so a cruise out of Sydney or Brisbane is fine.

What I need:
Your recommendations - Your dos and don’ts

I have cruised twice and loved them each time. Both cruises were on the Carnival Cruise Line to the South Pacific.

Would you recommend another cruise line?
Have you done something similar? What did you learn about organising a group holiday?

Thanks!

Has anyone used OLA Vacations to book a cruise?

I was about to book a cruise through this site because they were offering the best deals by a pretty wide margin for my specific sailing. The site is super easy to use and even gives a 90 price tracker which is nice. Before going through with booking however I decided to check and make sure this site was legit.
I cannot find a SINGLE review or comment about someone using this site to book a cruise. Has anyone used this site or even heard of it?

Question Question about cancellation and travel insurance

Hello, first post here….my wife and I have a 4 night cruise on liberty of seas Nov 5-9 out of Galveston. We are traveling with 2 other friends (fleshly sisters) in another cabin.
They are experiencing a family emergency, a daughter of one of them is going through psychiatric hospitalization. So it’s possible they may have to cancel. We all have a Generali Global Assistance & Insurance Services Policy purchased through Vacations to Go, our travel agent.
My understanding is that if they cancel, they could likely file a claim and recover their fare, since it’s a close family member. However, I think my wife and I have no such option since it’s not a family member, and we are separate reservations, etc.
So most likely we would still have to go on the cruise, which is nice but it was all about going as a group….anyway, sorry for the long post, just wondering if any more experienced cruisers on here know anything I don’t….

Question Booking my first cruise and I’m looking for advice

Hi! To keep this short me and my Bf are in our 20s and looking to book a cruise sometime next year and I need some advice/pointers/recommendations before booking anything.

Me and him have never been on a cruise as adults and aren’t too familiar on what counts as “good”. We have a pretty small budget (1000-4000$) but would still like something “nice”

If I could get recommendations/pointers that would be amazing!

More info edit: Me and Bf live close to NJ and Philly

Aiming to travel by Fall 2027

We are looking for a tropical destination

We aren't huge drinkers (i don't drink at all) so beverage packages don't really matter to us

Wifi being included is important to us lol

This would be our first vacation together, both of us have traveled outside of the US with our families separately, so this isn't necessarily our first rodeo but definitely our second so keeping it simple and easy would be nice

Disembark cruise 1 day early, but still arrive at endpoint same day the ship does, just by bus instead of by cruise ship

I am planning a cruise with rcl that boards in athens and ends in Venice italy. The stop before the end is zadar croatia. I want to disembark in zadar, take an excursion to see and explore plitvice park, and catch a bus the next morning from zadar to Venice. I would catch the bus at 9am in zadar and arrive in Venice about 945pm. Will rcl allow me to disembark 1 day early to do this?

Question Why is there so much Indian food, and so little Chinese food on cruises?

On almost every Princess and NCL cruise there is quite a bit of Indian food on the buffet and often on the MDR menu. I almost never eat Indian food; I think I ate at an Indian restaurant in 1985 and 2016. In comparison, I have eaten at Chinese restaurants, both buffet and sit-down, hundreds of times. I think it's the same for most people.

Just about every town in America has a Chinese buffet. Why can't we have a little Chinese food on cruise ships? I often have trouble finding good food on a cruise buffet, but egg rolls, hot and sour soup, and various Chinese dishes over rice always taste good.
