Question 2 wild childs and Alaska

(I know it should be children.. but that doesn't rhyme with wild as well haha)

Hi all! I'm wondering if I can ask for your cruise line suggestions.

We are wanting to go to Alaska in July or August of 2027 or 2028.

We are 10 people consisting of one couple in their 30s, one couple in their 40s, one couple in their 70s, and another couple in their 40s with two kids aged 8 and 4 as of July 2027.

The family of four is gently pushing for a Disney Cruise while the rest of the group is suggesting something maybe a bit more budget friendly.

We would love a kids club for the littles, however these two are absolute outside kids. They'll watch TV but would much rather be looking for bugs outside. So we aren't too worried about the Alaska Oriented activities, but would like the boat time to be good for them. I think I read something about a train in Skagway too - they would be obsessed.

The couple in their 70s and the couple in their 40s have quasi limited mobility - so hiking would not be of big interest. (They're fine to walk etc.)

Otherwise, we are pretty laid back. Not too concerned about the food or shows or rooms. Would prefer the cheaper end and for 1/2 of us, it will be our first time cruising. I'm chatting with a TA, but thought I'd ask you lovely folks as well. :)

So a few questions I guess?

  1. Is Disney worth it for Alaska?

  2. Are my conditions too lofty?

  3. Am I missing anything glaringly obvious?

  4. And of course, what do you recommend?

Thank you so so much!

Itinerary change

My cruise just changed its port to Saint John Brunswick Canada instead of Bermuda. What are some things I should do and go see? I’ve been researching, but tbh it all seems boring and like nothing to do🥲

Wonder if this will continue and become more wide spread. Kind of surprised it only caught 3 people but I'm not sure if they screened everyone of targeted individuals.

Question Check-in Time

I am going on the Carnival Horizon out of Miami next month. We are staying in Brickell. The diamond and platinum members that could check in already said the earliest boarding time was 11 AM. What boarding time would you try to get? Is there a time that is better for avoiding congestion like maybe 1 PM? We’ve never sailed out of Miami so all I know is that traffic can be a nightmare at the port.

10/02/2026 - Carnival Vista Review

The 8 day cruise to Aruba, Curacao and Celebration Key was an exciting itinerary that we were very excited about for well over a year. Unfortunately the experience was much less than what we expected and wished for. Our room, 9293, was worn and unfortunately very dirty when we first entered. The ship is in much need of an overhaul. There was rust and mold on the inside window beside our balcony, the furniture was worn out, all of the power outlets and light switches were missing paint and the balcony door had a hardware store hasp on it to keep the door shut / locked. The room itself was hot at night and very uncomfortable when trying to sleep. It seemed like the climate control was an issue all over the ship with many other cruisers complaining about being hot.

As far as the cleanliness of our room there was a lot of pubic hair and what looked like cookie crumbs in the drawers and the shelves at the bathroom vanity were coated in muck from the last few cruise passengers. The couch had an odor of catchup too. It was disgusting. We did bring it to the attention of staff and the room steward took care of the sanitary issues but to begin the cruise like that was less than what we desired. It appears that Carnival has changed how the room steward attends the room. We saw him once a day. I take 2 showers a day on “hot” cruise itineraries because I sweat. I do use the towels 2 times a day. However, I like having clean towels for the next morning. Nope, he never swapped out the towels when we left the room for dinner. Even when I asked for them to be swapped out.

The dinning room staff was rude and very slow. It took over an hour and half to be seated one night after we were told the table would be ready in 15 to 20 minutes according to their app. One night they canceled our reservation while we were standing outside the door waiting for our reserved scheduled time after being told our table was ready. The meals were the equivalent of a McDonald’s dollar menu or cheap franchise restaurant. Most seemed to be heated in a microwave prior to serving. The buffet style marketplace food option was awful. It felt like eating at a cheap Holiday Inn Express breakfast buffet included with a hotel stay. Carnival, table clothes on the dinning room tables would go a long way to make the experience feel more elegant. Why dress up when the table feels like you’re sitting at a fast food restaurant. The sad part was that they acted like this was normal. Not one time did they say we’re sorry you had to wait.

The entertainment was boring or felt like a high school talent show most of the time. The bingo and trivia was fun though. The casino was like a smoke stack with a bunch of video games stuff in it. The smoke free casino option was pitifully small with the same game options.

The in room tv was about the same as usual with no real options. Thankfully, we had the internet option which allowed us to use our Amazon streaming device. I will say the onboard WiFi was okay at just under 3 Mbps. From the time I logged on until the time I disembarked I was able to watch 2 Saturday’s worth of college football on DishAnywhere or Sling TV whenever I wanted to. Glad I had it because there was a lot of time that I was bored out of my mind. Being bored is not something I’m accustomed to with past cruises as we’re pretty easy to entertain. My wife did have a data plan through our cell provider that was $2 cheaper a day than the ship internet. She averaged 13 Mbps but did loose signal a few times a day and couldn’t stream to the room tv.

At Celebration Key we reserved a cabana in the adult area. The cabana was nice and comfortable but the attendant was absent and there really was no service. We saw her maybe 3 times but only once coming to take a request for drinks. We were pretty much left for ourselves for the entire day. The included food options were the same as onboard the ship. We felt like McDonald’s or KFC was the equivalent of what was offered.

The best part of the whole experience was disembarking on the last day. That went smoothly. We were off the ship and waiting on our shuttle in less than 30 mins. We did carry our own bags off and the elevator wait wasn’t bad. Very efficient departure. Wish the embarkation was as efficient as it took about 2 hours to get onboard and about a gallon of sweat poring off me.

This was, out of all of my cruises, the worst cruise I have ever been on. Carnival has cheapened the way they have set things up for their customers and the whole experience felt like I was on the Walmart or Dollar General of cruise lines. I expected more for what we paid and from my past cruises. Carnival has lost a customer and we’ll be seeking a replacement cruise line that actually offers an experience that I will be proud to talk about with friends and family.

1st time cruise in Nassau

Hi, it's our first time on a cruise.

Can you give me some tips on how I will navigate Nassau?

I've checked and there are seven other ships there that day too.😭

I just want to eat good local cuisine and be in a less crowded beach

We are just two adults.

Ensenada Tour Guide or Driver

Hi All!

I am going on a short birthday cruise in November to Ensenada. It was a last-minute decision to just get out and enjoy myself! I’ll be going with my husband and one other couple, so 4 of us total. I have been looking through excursions, and think I’d rather have my own driver/tour guide than book an excursion.

My hope is to do ATV riding in the Guadalupe Valley for an hour or so and then hit up a winery or two in the area. From what I’ve read online, I should have time for that!

I’m looking for recommendations of drivers or tour guides/companies that’ll help us get from one place to the next. Bonus points if they can guide me on what place to book for the ATV tour and which wineries to visit!

News Princess Cruises expanding Sanctuary Suites; removing access to previously public areas on certain Royal Class ships

Press release from today: https://www.princess.com/news/news-releases/2026/10/princess-cruises-expands-sanctuary-collection

Starting next year, Princess will be taking what is currently known as the Retreat adults only pool and bar area, currently open to anyone onboard the ship, and locking it behind the purchase of a Sanctuary Suite.

Start dates (all 2027):

Royal Princess January 4th

Regal Princess April 17th.

Discovery Princess April 24th.

Sky Princess May 29th.

Enchanted Princess June 12th.

I leave on a Princess cruise this weekend and between their package prices creeping up and this, it'll probably be my last Princess cruise.

Can anyone give me some tips on cruise parking? We will be on the sea islander margaritaville

Hoping to drive down and use the most convenient parking to leave our suv there. Is there a lot close to that port in Tampa Florida? Any tips? First cruise!

Seems like there will be a good crowd meeting up on Saturday. The Sky Bar is always the best place for this. Great views as you depart (Port Canaveral)

You all helped me add additional songs to my original list.

I’ll let you know how it goes!

Artic Cruise for Infant

I'm looking to take a Northern Lights Cruise in March / April 2027. My son will be 8months old. We'd like to have extended port days as well as beautiful views. I was looking at Hurtigruten’s Signature Voyages. Maybe the Artic Circle Explorer itinerary.

Has anyone taken an Artic cruise with an infant? Did it go ok? Guidance on how to handle the cold?

Has anyone have familiarity with Hurtigruten? Thoughts?

Question Who has the best fare for a Solo Cruiser / One person per room etc?

Looking to do a boy's cruise (a Friday to Monday) every once in a while, since our wives dont love cruising as much as we do. Who has the most aggressive deals when it comes to this option? Normally we sail Royal Caribbean, but you are basically paying for two people regardless with their pricing. Itinerary doesn't matter, it's going to be Bahamas and or private island (been there done that) anyway, so we mostly just be on the ship. Thanks!

Question Alaskan Cruise Questions

This may sound like a dumb question, but how much of an Alaskan cruise is spent in “open water” where you can’t see any land? I have never been on a cruise before - mainly because I have a lot of anxiety about being on a boat in the middle of the ocean. I have family members who are trying to talk me into going on a cruise to Alaska, and I’m trying to decide if my anxiety is warranted or not.

Also, how much rocking or swaying might I expect on the ship? I’m not really prone to being motion sick, but I’ve never been on any boat bigger than a ferry.

Is there a listing of theme cruises?

Hi all;

Is there a listing of theme cruises anywhere? For example, if there is a Sci-Fi themed cruise I would find that really compelling. Same for on with a lot of talks on recent history & current events.

TIA

Cruise for last week in Dec

Wanting to take my family (2 boys ages 4 and 2) on a cruise between Christmas and when school starts again on Jan. 4. Preferably out of Port Canaveral but could do Fort Lauderdale or Miami. My biggest priority is the quality of the ship and of course that it’s a good for kids. Any recommendations appreciated!

Rude, greedy baggage handlers @ NCL Miami

Gave the baggage handlers our luggage @ NCL terminal Miami and they basically demanded a tip. I usually tip anyway but not to rude demanding entitled people. Anybody else?

Repositioning cruise

Hi! I’m considering booking a repositioning cruise on carnival spirit from Seattle to Galveston next September. Obviously there’s a lot of sea days and of course the Panama Canal. If you’ve done a similar cruise from west coast to east coast in September, do you recommend it and if not why?

Help me pick a cruise for my first time...

This is for myself and my boyfriend. We are both late 40s but very energetic and young at heart and active and like to stay busy. One thing we are looking for is water slides, nothing crazy just some. We are looking for some out of boat excursions, something that we can go see historical sites and maybe water sports or snorkel, also one where we can walk along a nice beach and water. We also love shows like comedy and other entertaining on board. We are planning on getting a balcony room. We would like to go in February for a 6 to 8 day cruise. We are willing to fly anywhere in the US to a port as I have plenty of miles.

Question How much to budget for excursions?

Hi all, we’ve just put down the deposit for a cruise on the Bolette to Norway. Excursions aren’t available to book yet, so I have no idea how much they’ll be. What kind of excursions/prices can we expect? We‘re the kind of people who want to save up in advance rather than winging it but I don’t know how much to set aside. Thanks.
