GB Capital is looking for an English-language scriptwriter for an ongoing collaboration, with approximately 3–4 scripts per month.
We produce documentaries that help curious, intelligent viewers understand companies, technology, and the financial forces shaping them. We want strong storytelling, clear explanations, and conclusions supported by evidence. People already working in this niche are preferred.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY UNTIL THE END IF YOU WANT TO APPLY.
How we work
We start with a broader story: a technological shift, a geopolitical conflict, a market disruption, or a consequential decision. We then explore a company whose role within that story makes the stakes concrete.
We provide the initial idea, research dossier, starting sources, and editorial direction. You help shape the narrative, propose an outline, and develop the approved structure into a script.
The company’s technology and financial position should emerge naturally from the story. Viewers should understand what it sells, why customers buy, how it makes money, and what could make its strategy succeed or fail.
We welcome writers who challenge our initial angle when the evidence points elsewhere.
Your responsibilities
- Develop an outline for approval before drafting.
- Write approximately 1,500–2,000 words in natural, spoken English.
- Build a specific opening, causal progression, meaningful discoveries, and an earned ending.
- Explain complex ideas accurately to viewers without specialist knowledge.
- Verify central claims, provide source links, and identify important uncertainties.
- Suggest essential visual moments where they help tell the story.
Our team handles footage sourcing, voiceover, audiovisual planning, and editing. You should flag scenes that depend on specific material so we can check availability during writing.
Compensation
$100 USD per script, including the outline, drafting, fact-checking, source links, and revisions needed to meet the agreed brief. Changes to the topic or scope are agreed separately.
We expect approximately 3–4 scripts per month once we establish a successful working relationship. This is an anticipated workload, not a guaranteed minimum.
Selection process
We review applications and existing samples first. Shortlisted candidates will receive the same AI-generated draft and supporting material for an unpaid rewriting assessment.
Your task will be to develop a fresh script on the same topic, using the supplied material as a starting point. We want to see your own editorial judgment: how you improve the structure, opening, explanations, pacing, and ending, and turn the draft into natural, distinctive writing for narration.
This is a substantive rewrite, rather than a proofreading exercise or a sentence-by-sentence paraphrase. The existing draft provides context and a starting foundation; you should still question its claims and flag anything that needs verification. We will provide the assessment’s exact length, deliverables, and deadline before you decide whether to participate.
The assessment is for evaluation only. You retain ownership of your original contribution, and we will not publish or use your submission in production without a separate paid agreement. Participation does not guarantee selection.
How to apply
Applications are accepted exclusively by email.
Please send two examples of your previous work that most closely match this role, ideally YouTube documentary scripts about finance, business, or technology. We want to understand how you build a story, explain complex ideas, and write for narration. For each sample, briefly describe your exact contribution. Please prioritize relevance over the size of your portfolio.

Subject: GBC WRITER APPLICATION - [Your Name]
Please include a brief introduction, your availability, typical turnaround time, and two relevant writing samples. For published videos, explain your exact contribution.
Answer these three questions in the email. Specific examples and concise reasoning are more useful than general claims about your skills.
- Storytelling: Choose a business or technology story that interests you. What central question would you explore, and how would the story develop? A short paragraph is enough.
- Financial understanding: A company’s revenue grows by 50%, but it is still losing money. How would you explain this to a viewer without a finance background? (but also keeping the interest of people who already has a financial background) What would you investigate before judging the business?
- Your process: How would you turn our research material or AI-generated draft into a compelling script in your own voice? Briefly explain your approach to structure, fact-checking, revisions, and any AI tools you use.
Please do not apply through Reddit comments, chat, or DMs. Only email applications answering all five questions will be considered.
