Losing a conure is heartbreaking. They’re family, companions, and little personalities that leave huge marks on our lives. If you’ve lost your bird, you are welcome to share memories, photos, stories, or simply say their name here.
To keep the main feed safe and balanced for all members:
All posts about a conure passing away must be posted only in this megathread.
Standalone posts about bird death or loss outside this thread will be removed.
This is not to minimize anyone’s loss but rather to keep grief support in one dedicated, supportive space where people can choose to engage.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Conures/wiki/index
This subreddit's Conure Guide, written by /u/DukeofGoodCleanFun, is a remarkable document that I (and my pineapple green cheek) have benefited a lot from. I've consulted and browsed through it numerous times and there's always something new to see there, or something that didn't seem applicable at one point but took on new meaning after spending more time with my conure.
I've taken the text and converted it into a wiki page. It's now navigable, with an index and internal links that direct to sections within the wiki. The Conure Guide can be accessed from this post, from the announcement bar, and from the "wiki" tab in the tabmenu up top.
A couple of the links for recommended products will direct you to Amazon, but there are certainly other places to buy them. If you shop around and find and better place, by all means send us a modmail. Also, let us know if you have any suggestions for how the wiki formatting can be improved.

Finally got Chabela in for her wellness check today. Dr. David Jeffery said she’s recuperating greatly compared to the photos I showed him from when I first got her early last month.
She’s currently 59g and about 7 months and 3 weeks old. He said she’s developing nicely and recommended a feather/beak supplement to help support healthier feather growth and recovery of her damaged beak.
We also talked about the sudden head jolts she gets sometimes when she’s stimulated by whistling. He said he hasn’t seen that in a GCC before, but based on what we discussed, he wasn’t too concerned and thinks it may just be a little tic she has for life that won’t affect her quality of life. I’ll keep an eye on it, obviously, and I already have her next wellness check scheduled for six months from now to keep track of her development.
She did great with the vet. No nipping, no hissing, nothing. Dude called her a charmer lol.
He also approved of her diet, which is good to hear. She’s eating Roudybush California Blend with fresh collard, mustard, and turnip greens, yellow squash, occasional bell pepper, and a little apple here and there.
Pretty happy with how far she’s come since I brought her home. She wasn’t in the best shape when I got her, so it’s good to hear she’s making solid progress.
Anyone else with a GCC ever notice head jolts or sudden movements triggered by whistling or excitement? Not looking for a diagnosis, just curious if anyone’s seen something similar with their bird.

I've adopted Frank from a rescue and had him for about a year and a few months now. He loves to dance, scream, and eat his chop. He's very cuddly and he knew all basic commands when I adopted him. I've even taught him how to spin in a circle for treats. I'm always looking for new advice such as new things for him to eat or play with. I'm a little on a budget right now but I always make sure he has everything he needs and more! So any advice is welcome!

Today was my 26 year old sun conure’s annual vet visit. He is overall in excellent health but two things have me concerned:
He’s developed cataracts in both eyes and the vet said his vision will decline over time and that the cataracts are normal with being such an old birb. My concern is that he has free roam of the house with the exception of when someone is cooking or it’s bedtime. I’m now worried about him hitting walls, etc. and getting hurt. Obviously clipping his wings is not what we’d do, but I wish we could bubble wrap him.
The scary development is the vet sent the following follow up email:
One thing I did want to highlight in writing, as I mentioned during your visit, is that I noticed Opie's grip strength in his left foot seemed slightly weaker than his right. You mentioned you haven't noticed this at home, which is reassuring. That said, I do want you to keep an eye on it because in older parrots, decreased grip strength can be a sign of atherosclerosis, a common type of heart disease. With atherosclerosis, plaques build up in large blood vessels preventing blood flow to the extremities. Atherosclerosis can lead to a variety of clinical signs such as lethargy, weakness, decreased grip strength, falling off the perch, fainting, disorientation, seizures, increased respiratory rate/effort, and reduced appetite. Unfortunately, atherosclerosis can cause sudden death without warning.
The important thing to know is that if you notice at home that Opie is gripping with his left foot more weakly than his right — for example, when he perches on your finger — please reach out to us. If we confirm this is happening at home, we would consider starting a medication to help improve blood flow to his extremities. There is unfortunately no way to reverse atherosclerosis once it is present, but medication can help manage signs associated with it.
Anyone have any experience managing atherosclerosis?
Pic of the old man for head scritches…
Thank you!

Anyone else's bird start mumbling late at night? I'm a bit of a night owl but the bird goes to bed before me. Sometimes (like tonight) he just starts mumbling/whispering from beneath the cage cover. Very soft and cute. It's 1230 pm, all the lights have been off, I'm trying to finally sleep, and I start hearing him making little kiss noises and 'I love you's. It's so freaking cute but just curious if others experience this. Do you think he might be sleep talking? Or just waking up for a few minutes?

So recently my conure has been pushing her way between pillows and cushions of my sofa. She did this when I first got this new sofa but then she stopped. She was also hiding under the sofa, but I blocked her from going there. The other day I spent about 15 minutes trying to find her by looking under all the furniture, in closets, in high places, finally flipped the right cushions and she flew out.
So is this just something these birds do?

I was browsing facebook marketplace when I saw this listing for a “cage” for 600. I think this is some effed up backyard breeder but these poor conures are being kept in terrible condition and are clearly stressed out. I wish I had the money to rescue them, but then i’d be funding this shit. I decided to message him under the guise of inquiring and I started out with asking how their personalities are, he replied “good.” Then I asked if he had more pictures and he said no. I couldn’t help but confront him. I hate people who view animals solely for profit as if they’re just objects. This breaks my heart. “Not for you”, no, loser, not for anyone.

Peaches got a little too bossy during apple time and kept chasing Mochi away from the food, so I put her back in the cage for a bit.
Meanwhile, Sweetie was perfectly happy getting head scratches while Mochi napped on my hand. Even Bells came over to join the cuddle session.
Peaches, on the other hand, was NOT happy about missing out 😂
Guess Sweetie's afternoon spa doesn't close just because her bestie is in timeout.

So I have a conure, and she is about..Gosh...6 or 7 years old. She lives in her cage with a couple of budgies, they all get along. The question I have is, my conure has a fascination with licking my nose. No matter the time, what we're doing, any time I hold her, if she can get to my nose, she's licking it. Why? She's so weird.

Hey all, I’m going to be moving into my boyfriend’s house very soon (2 months or less) due to me needing to get out of my home situation. His family is very supportive of me and bird and are willing to do what’s necessary at home to keep him safe which is awesome. What’s not awesome, is that my boyfriend lives in the basement of his house. My bird LOVES to look out the window of my current house and I feel so bad taking that away from him. Also, his bedroom is significantly smaller than my current room and I worry of him being bored.
Are there any recommendations you guys have for keeping him entertained in this new, significantly smaller space?

Talon is 6 months old and weighed 68 grams at the wellness check on Oct 8th. I think these pics are 2-3 weeks apart. I was looking at the Aviator harnesses and per their weight it looks like the mini would be the size. Would they size out of it? I’ve never sized a harness before. Input welcomed.

EDIT: I've found a very temporary placr for him. I'll be able to visit.
