Connecticut only: I built a free place for neighbors to swap things they no longer need and I am looking for honest feedback
.
I kept seeing usable textbooks, furniture, and kitchen items get thrown away at move out time in Connecticut, while other people nearby needed exactly those things and were paying full price for them.
So I built Tawizi, and for now it is only for Connecticut.
You post an item you do not need, browse what people near you in Connecticut posted, and when you both want each other's item, you match, chat in the app, and meet in a public place to swap.
It is swap only. No selling, no fees, and no money changes hands. Members are email verified, images are moderated, and you can rate each other after a swap.
If you are not in Connecticut, this is not live for your state yet. I am starting local first so swaps are actually reachable.
For Connecticut folks here:
Would you trust a swap like this, and what would make you feel safer?
What items would you actually want to swap locally?
Thank you

Early voting was so easy
I just walked right in. No line. Filled out my paper ballot. No line to feed it to the ballot reader. Done.
I'm wearing my voted sticker and walking my dog.
Easy peazy.
I'm never waiting in those long election lines again.
Why doesn't everyone do this?

Propane - Superior Plus, new house owner.
Started with a fixed program at the start for $2.29. Then the second year they mentioned they couldn’t do a fixed rate nearly close to that. Now we are on a floating rate which is worrisome. We did last year and it got up to $2.76, now it’s $3.29.
We do rent the tanks, it’s how it came when we bought the house, two 120gallon tanks. I wanted to see what options we have we are new house owners and want to make the right choices here. On the good news the prior owner put a brand new furnace in for us!

Vent Any advice? Ask/Vent
Idk if it’s a CT thing or a me thing or a personality thing, but I need answers the best you can give. How are people meeting others outside of work/college? I feel like smartphones are making us less connected. My Situation:
I’m a 25yo man, never went to college, had “friends” at one point but once shit got bad nobody wanted to be around no more to the point I don’t even really feel comfortable talking to people anymore. Almost like i assume they’re negatively judging me based on first glance.
Idk if it’s trust issues or years of stress and depression and anxiety building up.
I’m not a weirdo, I work a well paying blue collar career with long hours 6-7 days, cleaned up my act a lot, cut down on smoking, practically quit drinking 100%. I don’t really have hobbies but im open to trying new things (kinda).
Any advice or maybe anyone else kinda in the same boat TIA

Eversource 😡 Tell me your worst Eversource Stories
Currently I utterly loathe and despise Eversource. The house I’m in has city gas meaning we need them to turn it back on if they ever have to do work on the gas lines and we were given a service window of 5-8. Well we are past that and when we call we were scoffed at and asked why would there ever be a service window?
YOU STUPID MONOPOLY OF AN ORGANIZATION THERE IS ALWAYS A SERVICE WINDOW. YOU CAN’T HONESTLY THINK YOU CAN JUST SHOW UP ANYWHERE. STOP GAS LIGHTING ME AND TURN ON MY GAS!
So, here I am waiting for them to come with an estimated “time of arrival” (not service window lets be VERY clear) of 9:00 PM with a “work time” (once again… NOT a service window) is 1-2 hours and to fill my time what are your worst stories dealing with them?
Hope everyone has a wonderful rest of your Wednesday!

Constitution doesn’t matter in CT
AG Tong fighting to keep SEMI Automatic rifles out of our hands…
For those unfamiliar with firearms:
semi-automatic firearm is a gun that fires one bullet each time you pull the trigger
Automatic firearms are banned in every US state.
Tong doesn’t believe citizens should own those scary looking rifles…

Help with greenhouse in regulated wetlands
Hello!
I am working on getting a permit for a greenhouse within 100ft of a wetland on my property. The town wetland official claims I need to first go through the town wetlands commission for this despite it clearly saying in the state regulations (adopted exactly in wording by my town) that there is no need for any special permit from the wetland commission given its only purpose is for agricultural purposes. The wetland official claims I need my property to be PA 490 which I cannot find any sources online to support that claim.
Has anyone run into this and know what to do? I would normally just go with it but I need to get concrete in the ground soon and can’t wait for the commission meeting next month.

No Connecticut town has applied for the state's nuclear study money yet. Should Hartford?
For those of you unfamiliar, CT has a up to $5 million grant right now for cities running feasibility studies on adding small modular reactors (SMR’s) to their city.
A reactor in Hartford would bring some key benefits-
- Could plug the tax deficit for the city by bringing in 10’s of millions in new tax revenues.
- Could reduce expenses for businesses and residents in the city by generating heat which can be siphoned to them in the colder months.
- Stabilize energy costs for the city as well as help stabilize rates for CT more broadly.
These benefits would also attract new business to the city.
Hartford also, uniquely, already has the existing electric grid and ideal locations where the new plant could be hosted (South Meadows, a former power plant site). It also has the CT river which could provide a cooling source.
I was surprised to see that the mayor of Hartford has not even spoken publicly on the topic, let alone weighed in one way or the other on the consideration. Wanted to discuss it here given we have all experienced how volatile gas prices can be nowadays and how clearly nuclear is the future of power in the northeast. Seems we have a unique opportunity to be early movers here and yield some serious economic benefits at the same time.

From Hurt To Hope: Dad Wants To Turn Painful Darien Library Incident Into Disney Magic For Son
dailyvoice.comAfter Micah Whitaker posted a TikTok saying a Darien Library employee ignored his Black toddler while interacting with white children, his family received an outpouring of support, according to a GoFundMe campaign. The video has amassed more than 6 million views as of Wednesday, Oct. 21.
Now, the fundraiser aims to help the family take their son to Disney World and create a happier memory.
The library placed the employee on leave and launched an outside investigation. The Norwalk NAACP is also investigating. The allegations have not been established as fact.
Edit: Ms. Rachel has donated $3,000 to the campaign.

Ask Connecticut Looking for primary care doctor who can help me get off SSRIs
Can anyone recommend their primary care doctor who helped them get off SSRI meds? Mine didn’t know how to help me after prescribing it 10 years ago. I tried to come off 5 years ago following their 2 week taper plan and things went south.
Would like to try again but be under the care of a doctor who knows how to taper over months or years.
Mainly looking for a knowledgeable doctor on this subject that one of you has had luck doing this very thing. Thanks.

Nov. 3 voting in CT: early voting runs through Nov. 1, and you can still register same-day
For anyone who hasn't voted yet, since the regular registration deadline (Oct. 16) has passed, it isn't too late.
- Early voting is open now through Sunday, Nov. 1, weekends included. Most days it's 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, and Thursday, Oct. 29, run 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Each town has its own early voting spot.
- Not registered, or moved from another CT town? You can register and vote the same day during any early voting hours, or on Election Day at your town's same-day registration site. Bring ID like a driver's license, birth certificate or Social Security card, plus something with your current address if the ID doesn't show it.
- If you turned 18, became a citizen or moved into town after Oct. 16, you can also register in person with your registrars Monday, Nov. 2, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Absentee is no-excuse this year for the first time. Mailed or drop-box ballots have to reach your town clerk by 8 p.m. Nov. 3.
- Election Day polls are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3. If you're in line at 8, you can vote.
- Find your polling place at MyVote.CT.gov/lookup, or call your registrars.
Disclosure: I edit a free local news site, and I put together a town-by-town guide for Enfield, Suffield, Somers, East Windsor and Windsor Locks (early voting rooms, polling places, registrar numbers). Happy to drop the link in the comments if it's useful to anyone up this way.

Ask Connecticut Can landlords forfeit the security deposit for breaking lease early?
planning to relinquish possession of my apartment in a few months, and my landlord is saying i'll have to continue paying rent until they find a new tenant and a $500 reletting fee, plus i'll also have to forfeit my security deposit. is this legal?
edit: my lease agreement is totally different from what they're saying now. the lease says i can pay a lease buyout fee + $500 reletting fee + rent until they find a new tenant, but i would get my security deposit.
i asked them about this option but apparently they're not offering it now (they claim it's if you want to reduce the notice period from 90 days to 60, which is not what the lease says). instead my main option relinquish possession -> pay rent until new tenant -> pay $500 reletting fee -> forfeit security deposit
thank you!
