Promotion - Business/Service/Offer An Update on the Stamford Event Calendar

TLDR: ffctevents.us has traffic, it's still and will always be free, and if you want to suggest any features let me know.

Hello People.

Just want to give a small update to https://ffctevents.us/ - The site I created 2 months back to display events in the the Fairfield County (mostly for Stamford).

Early this week I got a notification that the site had reached 10k views, and to be honest I didn't expect people to use it (as I mostly created it for myself). However, since a lot of you are using/have used the website, I want to say thank you by spending a bit more time refining the site so that it's easier to use.

I'd still like to keep this site ad free and free to use, so I won't spent crazy hours making it the next Facebook (I'm not smart enough to do so either). It's always just a small personal project, but as an engineer I also like feedbacks from users if the project's actually being used. Especially if you are a Stamford resident, if you see anything useful that can be added in the site please let me know.

Here's an image of what I received early this week:

Martial Arts and Dance

Hi all. I'm moving to Stamford and am curious about the martial arts and dance scene. Martial arts and dance have been a life long passion of mine and how I also build community.

I currently do BJJ and still like to dabble in Muay Thai and Boxing. I used to do Capoeira.

I also love to dance - both take lessons and out at places with live music or solid DJs.

I am currently learning Bachata and Salsa. I used to do Samba and Forro.

I also LOVE good House music and going out dancing to good house DJ's (like deep house, afro house, tropicalia, and whatever the disco worldly kind of house is called).

Are there any good places to train or take class? What about local DJ's to check out, or good social vibes in or around Stamford I could tap into?

I understand NYC is where most of this stuff is. However, I want to find places close by during the week where I can go to train and/or take class.

I'm slightly nervous to make this move and uproot from my tight communities. I'd appreciate any help finding some places to land, train and meet new people.

What you don’t see at Stamford restaurants

• Upvotes

As I run around my house avoiding this wasp that got inside, I’m reminded of how traumatized I am from what happened to me while working at Quartiere, which to be clear was a restaurant that recently closed in Stamford.

Long story short, one day I was working and I had to restock the bathroom supplies. So I go to the basement stock room to grab toilet paper, but I don’t see any so I tip over a cardboard box on a top shelf to check if it’s there. Lucky me, I’m not exaggerating when I say a PILE of cockroaches fell onto me like a shower stream. I’ve never been so instantly shocked, disgusted and scared in my life. I couldn’t stop screaming and didn’t know what to do. I struggle with anxiety and obsessive thinking pretty badly, and I was near having a panic attack. After I stopped crying and collected myself enough, I came upstairs to tell the woman owner who was acting as MOD. She told me to “take a minute” which we all know is BS. I was in utter shock I didn’t have instant permission to go home. Mind you I was still shaking from what had happened, and now I’m in front of customers after the cockroaches were all over me.

So it somehow gets worse. I go back to keep cleaning the bathroom because I’m not getting to leave. All of a sudden I hear someone in the bathroom over throwing up. When I come out of the big bathroom, there’s vomit up and down the walls of the hallway. So I go back and tell the owner on duty, and I essentially plea with her to not make me clean it up because I can’t take that on top of the cockroaches. She tells me the food runner had the worse job that night so it’s not fair to make them do it. So my eyes got wide and I pushed back and she got pissed that I had an attitude with her. Because this world is a scary place to be without a job, I sucked it up and did what I needed to do. It was degrading and I cried through it, eventually throwing up myself due to a mixture of all the crying and the smells and disgust.

To make matters worse, quartiere continued operating with a severe active roach problem for a long time and she knew about the issue when I came to her. From an internal point of view they had every reason under the sun the roaches couldn’t get under control (but don’t get me started on the cleaning procedures lol).

To make matters worse, this woman who allowed me to go through all of that and best she could offer was to “take a minute” is a nurse. Or at least she was a nurse when I was working for her.

I’ve moved on from this terrible experience, except for the fact that I’m more terrified than I ever was before of any kind of bug, and it’s honestly exhausting to have your heart rate skyrocket for an extended period of time over any bug around you trapped in your home, and then being unable to do anything but scan your surroundings for a bug. I actually need to do exposure therapy I wish I was joking.

Q is only one of the places I worked, but I can say this situation took the cake even with the other places being nightmares and also having awful management.

I know most people won’t care about this type of mistreatment toward a restaurant worker. But the fact that it had to do with health and safety is why I find it so abhorrent. And running away from this wasp all night has had me pissed off at that place for letting me go through something so terrible with not even an apology.

Be nice to restaurant workers and also know the risk you’re taking when eating out. There are people with their priorities out of order trying to feed you

Paving Roads

We asked the Operations Department about the paving schedule since there was a lot of concern about the children Trick - or - Treating and the roads are not finished yet.

The answer is as follows: Paving operations should be starting either tomorrow or Thursday. We will emphasize this schedule to the contractor." Paving operations should be starting either tomorrow or Thursday. We will emphasize this schedule to the contractor."

The hope is that the roads will be in good shape for Halloween this year.

Fusaros

Wondering if anyone has had previous issues with fusaros and cleanliness. I've been a big fan for many years but yesterday picked up sandwiches and found MANY huge hairs. It was absolutely disgusting, and now realize that sandwich was partially open. Seems very odd. Called today and they gaslit us saying it's never happened and then suggested it was a prank on our side (as in one of our friends we got sandwiches for did it as a prank). Absurd reaction which now has rally made me angry. It's never been the cleanest in there but I've always enjoyed their food. Don't think I'll ever go back now especially given their reaction, and wondering if anyone else has had an issue

Daycare suggestion for autistic toddler?

Does anyone have any daycare recommendations for my 2y4m old daughter who is on the spectrum (likely Level 1)? She has a good vocabulary but struggles to use words to communicate. I’m looking for a daycare with patient, understanding, and knowledgeable teachers who have experience supporting autistic children. I’d really appreciate any recommendations.

Agora day spa - closed/gift card

Just as the title reads. I got a gift card for there from my family this spring for my birthday that I was saving for now and I go to book and they’re permanently closed! Anyone have any insight on how I can get this money back? Or a contact? I’ve been going there for the last 18 years!

Marriott said they aren’t officiated with them and just rented the spa space. They do not have any further information.

Sweeney Todds - Bedford Street

Does anyone have experience with Sweeny Todds haircutting on Bedford? Google said they were open on Sundays and so does their posted door hours- but when I went yesterday they were very obviously closed. I also don't see an online reservation system which is atypical for all the salons in the area- are they walk ins only?

Applebees, Chili’s, Olive Garden?

Please don’t knock me, but I went to an Applebees the other day and really enjoyed the price for the quality. I know it’s nothing special and it might be microwaved, but sometimes I just want to sit in a restaurant, get decent food and service, and not have to pay $100 bucks for two. Their deals are exceptional.

Why don’t we have any of these restaurants close by? What’s a comparable nearby?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Question/Recommendations Current resident looking to relocate apartments

My lease is up in April 2027 and I currently live in NV at harbor point. I really like this building and living down here but they keep raising the rent and it’s not only frustrating but impractical.
I really like the amenities of the pool and gym. I’m wondering if anyone has any luck finding 1br apartments with good management, pet friendly (45lbs dog) and amenities for under 2,500 dollars? Or is that equivalent to looking for a unicorn nowadays. Open to going downtown but I like the charm of harbor point.

Does anyone need a house/dog/cat sitter during the Thanksgiving holidays?

Hello!

My eldest brother is has Stage 4 cancer, and the family wants to convene for one (possibly last?) holiday at Thanksgiving. (We are an interfaith family, so Thanksgiving is easier for us that Christmas.) The problem is we all live in Chicago.

My brother wants to host everyone at his house, but his wife (astutely) doesn't want to host 10 people in the house while he's going through all the cancer treatments.

I've looked at AirBnBs and VRBOs, but even looking in September, they're prohibitively expensive.

I have asked friends, but my network of friends is mostly in NYC, and I'd like to not spend so much time commuting during the holiday after we've already flown in.

SO, is anyone going out of town and need a cat/dog/house sitter for the weekend? It would be me, my husband, and my 2 yr old daughter. If you have a big place and are comfortable, we could discuss adding in my younger brother and his wife. (Extra hands to make sure we leave the place very clean.)

I know this is a big, crazy ask, but these are crazy times.

Happy to do background checks, a contract, references, etc.

Thanks for your consideration!

Mid 20’s living in Stamford

I see a lot of posts about people wanting to start clubs or game nights here with other females in their 20-30’s to make friends and there’s always so many comments. I’m curious, is Stamford a good city for a mid 20’s female to live? Is it easy to make friends in general? Is the nightlife / dating scene good? Is it a fun city for us mid 20’s-30’s or is it leaning towards younger because of the colleges? Give me all the tea - I am debating moving here from BOS to be closer to NYC

Question/Recommendations Location

My family and I are reviewing our options and CT is a place we may consider. I would like to move to a town where it is suburban but also close to the Metro North Station since I do work in NYC. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
