Question/Advice Bisque fire

Newbie here! If I put a small patch of clay (maybe like a quarter sized or smaller) from the block (hasn't touched water) onto my piece before it goes into the bisque fire...are bad things going to happen in the kiln?

Question/Advice Fixing a hole in a cookie jar

We bought a cookie jar and it has a hole in the top of it. The hole is about the size of a coin slot and a bit thicker. Inside, it has been caved in a bit around the hole. The pieces we have aren’t even close to what has been lost. So, repair with the original pieces isn’t an option. We have seen some people talk about using ceramic air-dry clay to fill a hole like this. What would you recommend? Have you had to do a repair like this in the past? We actually could ignore the hole, we just don’t want it to get any larger. Thanks in advance!

I bought these in a small town in Florida (Mexico Beach) and I can’t find any information about them. I have google image searches and gone through a LOT of results. Does anyone know anything about these? There’s no makers mark on them or anything signifying origin. I just wanna know if they’re worth keeping or not!

Question/Advice Putting full glazed items in the kiln

Hi! Im a newbeginner in the world of the ceramic and was wondering how to put full glazed items in a kiln?
I’ve heard that you can use metal wires to hang it up of some sorts but im not sure what’s the best way to do it is.
Say i have a heavy item thats fully glazed, that cant hang cause of the weight right??

Please help me to understand how it’s done 😭Thank you 😫🫶

Pottery at home without a studio

Hi all,

I recently got into pottery and im enjoying it tremendously!

As I live in a small flat, there is no chance to get a home studio.
However, as I continue my pottery classes, I was wondering if there is anything holding me back from getting some clay and just handbuilding at home. I could get everything fired at the studio and take it home for glazing.

A possible challenge could be not letting any clay residue get into the pipes, but apart from that is there anything to watch out for?

Work in progress What glaze ??

Super stuck on what glaze to use. This is 266!! Any good blue / green / stony glazes that fire well on 266??

I love the look of iron lustre, river rock, and ironstone; but have read that they might not turn out well based on kiln cooling and also just the darker clay body.

Thanks!

Work in progress We had to do slab vases one small one larger. The large one is 21 inches, this one is 18 inches. My fear is it is too heavy, about 16 lbs.

Work in progress Your Go-To Clay Hand Building Tools and Tips for Beginners

• Upvotes

Hey Folks! I am just beginning for the first time ever to work with clay, as my new senior community has a pottery studio including glazes, molds, wheels, kiln etc. In short, it has the works! I am so very lucky. I cannot "throw" clay on the wheel due to shoulder and hand issues but I can hand build with clay and I am already experimenting. As their first club sponsored 6 week class beginner class doesn't start until January, if so inclined, please let me know what best technique or favorite tool you wished you knew about when just starting out. Thank you in advance!
