The programming language Ada is used extensively in real-time embedded and high-integrity software such as in avionics, air traffic control, space, rail, automotive, in other words, systems that cannot fail. Ada, and it's subset SPARK, which enables the use of formal methods, is a modern language focused on systems engineering.

If developing software for these types of systems interests you, we are organizing a community event in Kanata (exact location to be announced) to learn more about it:

https://www.meetup.com/ottawa-ada-spark-community/events/317058872/

Attendance is free, the pizza will be free too.

Getting started with Ada is easy, all the tools are available in open source, a great place to get started is https://alire.ada.dev

any info is appreciated, really worried I won't pass the course

was it just me or like 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

why is this course so hard i thought web dev is supposed to be relatively easy, not a form of torture

Is there actually any good halal food on campus or near carleton campus that isn’t overpriced or disgusting? I feel like carleton has some of the worst food options compared to other universities.

hi guys!! I’m in my 3rd year and everyone in my classes are already in friend groups. i spend most of my days feeling lonely and isolated lwk. I’ve made acquaintances but it just never reached to the point of being genuine friends. everyone says join clubs and i tried but the ones im in are basically dead lol. what good (active) clubs are there? On top of that im off campus and have a long commute so making friends + going to club events after late classes is just way harder.

I want to put myself out there this year (since I spent most of my time being shy) so send me a dm if you want to be friends!

to my friends at comp 2406,

the course timeline says test 3 is from AJAX (chapter 5) only. then the prof emailed us saying its both. now 2 people posted on the discussions and he just replied 2 hours ago saying: Focus on AJAX

im so confused, this sounded to me like a riddle. so is there gonna be ANY node.js or no? r u guys gonna study it or no? shall i focus on both or only one?

i didnt wanna post it on discussion nor reply to him cuz i didnt feel comfortable, so i thought i would find someone here who could help.

Is it normal to pass all your labs and then fail the midterm? My son felt good going in but got a 39%. Some of the questions were on content he hadn’t been taught. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I need help. should I major in cybersecurity I wanna be a cyber analyst

He lives within the very walls of the place where I reside. He follows no code, no law, he walks on the left side he is the most DASTARDLY man to ever walk the Carleton tunnels. I am scared, I am terrified that one day he will run out of monster energy (the white ones) and he will go feral. There is no telling what it is capable of, one time I merely glanced at the dr. Pepper it happened to be drinking at the time, oh …the unspeakable HORROR that shortly ensued there after (I wasn’t even looking at it, I was looking in its general direction). Warn your children, warn your grandma, it’s boutta be Groundhog Day up in this bitch.

Please someone tell me I’m not crazy for thinking this:

So today in class our prof was talking about a discrepancy in grades between assignments and midterms, because of AI use. He was getting everyone’s opinions on what we think he should do..

He was mentioning something about potentially making exams more difficult to avoid these situations, but also doesn’t want to make things harder. I don’t understand why he’s not able to flag assignments for AI use or dock people’s assignments and continue with how things are.

I guess my point with this is that I don’t see how it’s fair for the rest of us who don’t use AI to basically be punished for the ones who do. Like why do exams have to be harder to stop those people from relying on AI? Our exams are multiple choice, but there’s now discussions about adding short answer questions, I just find this unfair.

Why can’t he report/flag/dock assignments and leave things as is? It doesn’t make sense for the rest of us to basically pay the price because of the ones who have been using AI. If they use AI, let them get a bad grade, why is it our problem? I’m thinking of sending him an email, but I’m open to hearing thoughts.

Turn back

He was a ground hog

Got accused of submitting an AI generated paper in second year and now every time I submit a paper I genuinely get panic attacks.

For context, I study law and use AI tools to help with research, break down complex topics, etc but all my writing (minus exerpts) are my own. Every time I sumbit a paper I use every AI decector under the sun and each one gives me a different answer. I’ve kept all my pages of research notes and rough drafts just in case, but I still freak out every time.

I don’t know if anyone else has this fear, I feel like I have to dumb down my writting to avoid accudations. Writing a paper in 2026 feels like being accused of a which in the 1600s, please help!

Hi everyone! We’re conducting a research study and looking for women in Ontario (ages 18–25) who are feeling depressed, lonely, struggling with substance use and are not currently in therapy. As a participant, you’ll be asked to: Join 5 virtual group therapy sessions (75–90 mins each) Complete 3 clinical questionnaires Provide 2 saliva samples (via mail-in cortisol kits) And yes — you’ll get paid for your time! Everything is virtual and flexible! Please share the word! Email [lapower@theroyal.ca](mailto:lapower@theroyal.ca) for details.

I did not accept my accommodations by their deadline for an upcoming midterm in a couple weeks. I'm looking for solutions for how to get them back. Has anyone had experience with this? What should I do? Any advice would be appreciated.
