This is a monthly thread for tuk tuk drivers and other local businesses to advertise their services.

All business advertisements, tuk tuk ads, and "thank you to my customers" posts must go in this thread, or they will be deleted, and the posters banned.

Let's reward local businesses who use this thread instead of spamming by becoming their customers!

Expat A word to the wise: if you need answers, use the various Facebook expat groups.

It's been a pretty consistent experience that asking for info on Cambodia-realated subreddits will get you "answers" that people copypasted from google and ChatGPT, don't match what you actually asked for, and people want to find reasons to argue with you or just generally be a dick.

FB groups make you sift through a fair amount of crap, but you'll generally get better answers in the end. Whenever I've asked both here and there, I rarely get anything useful here, but usually get something I can use there. Save yourself some headaches. Incoming angst in 3...2...

Kampot Motorcycle Ride from Phnom Penh to Kampot

Hello! I’m looking for something to do in Water Festival. I’m thinking of renting a motorcycle from PP then drive it to Kampot.

I’m also from SE asia, i drive both motorcycle and car back home so I think im pretty much confident.

Do you think this is a bad idea? Has anyone tried doing it before? If anyone is with a group and is planning to do a group drive, interested to join as well.

News Just found out OYOSHI is now a Cambodian brand

Apparently OYOSHI has fully separated from F&N Malaysia and is now a Cambodian owned brand.

Personally, I haven't really noticed much of a difference, but it's interesting to see more brands moving towards local ownership in Cambodia.

I think it's a pretty good thing overall, especially if it means more opportunities for local businesses and workers.

Also, random question, has anyone noticed if OYOSHI tastes a little different now? I personally haven't noticed any changes, but I'm curious if anyone else has.

And are there any other brands that used to be foreign owned but are now Cambodian?

Travel Cambodia for 5 days in February - itinerary feedback

Hey everyone! I'll be visiting Cambodia in February and would appreciate some advice.

My plan is to spend around 2 nights in Phnom Penh and 3 nights in Siem Reap to explore Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples.

I'm interested in history, culture, local food and seeing the highlights without rushing through everything.

Does this split make sense? Would you spend more time in either city

I'd also appreciate recommendations for transport, little known spots, and anything first-time visitors tend to overlook.

I'd love recommendations for other places to visit, and if there’s any activities that you would recommend or anything you guys would change, or if there’s anywhere else you would go? Thanks.

Expat Badminton, pickleball, yoga in Phnom Penh

Hello! Interested in joining a gym to play badminton, pickleball, do yoga, run - in Phnom Penh. Can anyone recommend a few places, ideally near BKK1 or on the peninsula?

Interested in open gym time but also private lessons for badminton. If there is a gym with an indoor track for running that would be great but not a dealbreaker! If you have recommendations for nice places to run outside, also welcome those! TIA

Travel Smart SIM not working on Pixel 9

Hello,

I am having problems with this physical SIM card that I got very recently from Smart on my Pixel 9.

I've done quite a lot of testing with other phones and other SIMs. What I've found is that older SIM from Smart works fine, SIM from cellcard are also fine. It's only this new SIM I got from Smart that has problems. However, the problematic SIM works fine on other phones, just not the Pixel 9.

When I plug the SIM in, there is a notification saying "New SIM needed, This SIM is no longer supported. Contact your operator to get a new SIM."

Smart customer service has been little to no help across different branches.

Is anyone else having the same problems? Anyway to solve it?

Employment Newly moved to Phnom Penh (150-hr TEFL) — Looking for neighborhood schools / language centers willing to hire on the ground?

Hi everyone,

I recently moved to Phnom Penh to teach English. I hold a 150-hour TEFL certificate and have previous teaching experience (both online and 1-on-1 tutoring), though I don't have experience managing full classrooms yet. I haven't landed a position so far and am really eager to get my foot in the door.

I’ve heard that walking in and dropping off CVs in person at local/neighborhood schools and neighborhood language centers is often the best way to find opportunities—especially for centers that need teachers on short notice and don't advertise online.

A few questions for the community:

Which neighborhoods/districts in Phnom Penh have a high density of these types of schools and language centres?

Are there specific local language centers or smaller school chains that are welcoming to native/TEFL teachers transitioning into their first classroom role?

Any tips for walk-ins? Is asking directly for the Director/HR the standard approach, or is leaving a CV at reception usually enough?

Any leads, advice, or recommendations on where to start pounding the pavement would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks in advance for the help!

Finance Tax on foreign-sourced income for expats living in Cambodia?

If you live in Cambodia over 182 days a year but 100% of your income is from abroad (remote clients/foreign employer paid into an overseas account), are you actually expected to file or pay taxes here?

I know on paper tax residents are technically taxed on worldwide income, but how is this handled in practice? Does the GDT track or enforce this at all for expats, or is foreign-sourced income generally ignored?

Thanks!

Expat WISE -> ABA 3+ days 😭

Has anybody found a work around. For some reason transferring to ABA from WISE is fairly expensive and takes 2-5 days at least. Does it eventually transfer faster after some time? I am fortunate to have a sThai bank which it goes to immediately for cheaper and then someone taught me the ABA Merchant app QR transfer to there, that works but would prefer to cut out the middle country. I also tried both dollar and riel accounts but didn’t seem to make a difference. Any one else find a better solution?
