Reconnect – Best Programs for a Career Change?

I know this is highly subjective. I'm curious what industries people actually living and working in NYC think would be the most stable / room for growth/ "AI-proof"—if there even is such a thing nowadays.

For reference, I've lived in Brooklyn for going on 8 years and work in creative advertising. The future is a bit bleak lol.

I've thought a lot of going back for a practical degree and just doing artistic stuff on the side in the future. The expansion of the Reconnect program to prior BA holders seems like the perfect opportunity.

Trouble is, opinions on career paths seem to differ forum-by-forum and city-by-city. For example, nursing, dental hygiene and (to a lesser extent) RadTech are predicted to be in high demand, but apparently competition in the city is cut-throat. "Trades" that could be achieved through the electrical / mechanical / civil engineering programs may pay less up front, but seem like they may have more utility in a Metropolitan area like NYC? Others might argue to lean into the tech/cyber-security type offerings despite how rapid tech is advancing.

Again, I know this is a very open-ended question, but I'm interested in hearing the opinions of real NYers :)

Thank you!

Question What's better? Living on or off campus?

As an international applicant (fall 27), I'm really confused as to what option I should go for. I've heard people say that living on campus is expensive and all. Is that true for y'all?

I'm also not sure where I should stay before I find a place (if I decide to stay off campus) and how much that's gonna drain my wallet because I've heard that finding a place in NYC is TOUGH.

What's your experience? How much difference in expenses are there? And what would be your suggestion?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Federal Work Study student

I am currently working as a student at my university job. I recently had an uncomfortable situation with my job. I came into work on time and my boss was waiting for me sitting at my desk. She said that my other coworkers had told her I had been getting there late twice and that I had been clocking in from home. I have arrived late once and I notified her via email in advance. But, I have been getting there on time and clocking in from the office. She went ahead and cut my hours and took two hours off of those two days she claims I came in late without any proof. She also told me if I spoke up there would huge consequences. She has been harassing me and she even tried to touch me. I did not allow her. I haven’t spoken up yet because I really need this job. Does anyone know what I can do.
