Discussion Who was better: Braxton Miller or Dennard Robinson?

Post image

Feels like on the surface Robinson would be the answer because of being the cover athlete on the greatest CFB video game to a lot of people, but Miller was just as explosive as a duel threat QB. Who do you guys think?

Are yall upset at the coaching staff for not catching the extra 1 second left on the clock? Is that something a better coaching staff would have caught?

Sark needs to be fired after the Season,or needs to fire the whole staff,(no way you can have the 2 top QBs commits and have them looking so bad, along with spending 1 billion in the transfer portal)Arch Manning needs to transfer out and stay another year with a different team

Notre Dame needs to win out otherwise it will be exactly like last year

Penn State needs to wait a couple years before making a coaching decision

Northwestern,Oregon State,Wake Forest, Kentucky. In the Playoffs?

Alabama, Oregon, LSU and Texas out?

Stats Week 7 World Rugby Ranking System Applied to CFB

Post image
1 Upvotes

World Rugby uses a points exchange system to rank teams. This system is designed to compare the relative strength of teams when playing very different schedules by strengths and number of games. You can read more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Rugby_Rankings#Rules

Basically, you calculate a points exchange for each match based on the relative strength of each team, home/away, and margin of victory. If teams are more than 10 points apart in ranking and the favorite wins, no points are exchanged. But if the underdog wins a relatively large number of points will be exchanged.

For this set of rankings it is looking at all results going back to 2001. However, the most recent 8-12 games typically determine the ranking

Opinion/Hot take What a great day this past Saturday was for College Football!

This past Saturday, there were so many great games that had me on the edge of my seat. I’m a Florida State fan and still couldn’t be more proud to be a fan of this team that made a top-ranked team like Miami tremble. Even though Miami still won, I bet Mario Cristobal is going to get on some players' asses because he didn’t look too happy at the end. Miami going into double overtime against a team like FSU is shocking and amazing at the same time. I'm not here to bust balls on anyone’s team; I’m here to say that there were a lot of great close games this weekend and I appreciate game’s like these.

In the Deep South's oldest rivalry, Auburn beat Georgia by a field goal, and his first year as the Auburn head coach, ex-USF coach Alex Golesh beat the number 1 team. I see a bright future for the Auburn Tigers!

Notre Dame and BYU had a great game as well. I have always admired Kalani Sitake from BYU; he has always been a great coach and seems to know what he is doing in big and close games and likes to have fun. I also always like Notre Dame and their head coach Freeman. Despite the 1 second dispute, it was still such a great game. Both the team and the fans should be disappointed in either one of their teams!

The Ohio State and Indiana game was another great match. Marsh had that touchdown if he didn’t step out of bounds. Indiana's defense just showed a lot of weaknesses in the Ohio offense. He cannot just rely solely on Smith, and he had a big play that game that gave them the lead, but other than that, he couldn’t do much. Just a great rivalry game.

The third Saturday of October, with Tennessee beating Alabama, was shocking and funny at the same time. Tennessee getting three field goals in the first quarter against Alabama was funny. I was thinking, “Alabama is going to lose to a team that is just kicking field goals." 😂 Congrats to Tennessee, but that offense still needs work. Alabama, the good old days are gone. Love him or hate him, Nick Saban was the man. Hard days are ahead for the Crimson Tide.

I watched Oklahoma State vs. Houston as well, and it was back and forth between these two teams. 35-32 with Houston winning. Just an absolute classic game.

Kanas State bested Kanas in the Sunflower Showdown, which had me on the edge of my seat. Both teams did very well. The Kansas Jayhawks took the lead early, but KS started to outplay them between the second and third quarters because the Jayhawks kept making mistakes, and also the refs were throwing PI flags like candy; it was the complete opposite of the Ohio State-Indiana game 😂.

Honorable mentions of games that were close and, most likely, great, but I didn’t watch.

Florida beating Texas 27-24

Rumble in the Rockies
Utah beat Colorado 27-24 (fell asleep in the middle of the game).

Fresno State lost to San Diego’s state 26-23 (again fell asleep).

Northwestern bested Michigan State 24-21.

West Virginia beat Cincinnati 45-42.

Kentucky beat Oklahoma 21-13.

North Carolina beat Duke 24-20.

Michigan beat Penn State 21-18.

Oregon beat Nebraska 17-14

As the name "Pipe Dream" implies, I know this has ZERO chance of ever being implemented. This was just a way for me to nerd out and combine three passion areas of mine. Sports, geography, and math.

Also, please for give the janky-ness of some of map graphics. I might be good at math, but I'm a terrible graphic designer. Plus the map tools in excel suck.

No. 4 Notre Dame (6-1)

*I posted this in main r/CFB yesterday and it was removed, so let me know if it is safe for r/CFB_v2's eyes. The SEC has more ranked two-loss teams than the other nine conferences combined at a 5:0 ratio. That is a whipping of epic proportions and provides a glimpse into how the SEC is viewed compared to rest of college football. Whether that's warranted is an interesting debate.

Meme /Funny Big 12 saved the Universe during the BYU - ND game.

I have learned through someone I know, who knows someone else, and they know someone, that not letting Notre Dame have that missing second saved the universe. As you may recall, when Michigan stole from the Universe that one second, it put time out of balance. That missing second was slowly pulling things out of whack. The quantum time fields were beginning to become unstabilized. If left unchecked, the quarks, ups, higgs boson and others in that strange quantum world unravel, and all matter would disintegrate. Only by luck a Western Michigan scientist, wondering about effects that missing second, discovered our peril.

With that discovery, a game had to be found where that last second could be safely inserted but not used, therefore safely restoring balance to our Universe. This last weekend, only the BYU and Notre Dame game had the specific criteria needed to insert that unused second. The Big 12 agreed, even after failing to find a advertising sponsor for that second.

So, Notre Dame fans, as you cry into your Irish beers and whiskeys, take solace that your pain saved the Universe.

Hype All of the CFB teams walk into a bar....current week edition

Please feel free to join along in the comments...

Nebraska steps into the pub. Everyone knows he got promoted at his job last month for simply showing up and doing entry-level tasks. He's not very good at his new position yet and people are beginning to think he's full of shit all over again.

Miami is of course being the loudest, most obnoxious regular imaginable up at the bar rail. He repeatedly buys rounds of shots that nobody sitting around him is super stoked to do anymore. He keeps telling the cute college gal bartender, "Watch yo self". Whatever the fuck that means.

Auburn just came inside from the back patio. Him and Georgia had fist fight over by the sand volleyball courts.

Indiana is furiously shoving quarters into the BullShooter machine. Some slapnut named "BUCK" beat his high score in Around The World, and he wants his revenge.

North Dakota State is new in town and all of the cougar bitches love him. Not like cfb cougars, I'm talking actual cougar bitches. Something about a fade mullet and bandana.

BYU is well-liked but everyone also thinks he's weird for some reason. Nobody knows what it is, but they all still smile at each other whenever he goes to the bathroom. He goes to the bathroom a lot.

Notre Dame is the one always exhausting people with his job complaints. Nobody at work seems to understand how important he is. No one ever sees the genius in his ideas. He has enough money to do whatever, but has to control every step of the process. He wears a Seattle Seahawks jersey when at the bar, even during summer.

Ohio State got into a fight like 6 weeks ago out in the parking lot. People were happy he lost, but aren't talking shit or anything. He runs with bad people.

Tennessee is an alcoholic that always tries to fight newcomers. He's had his ass beaten several times but it's never that easy.

Question Holding calls and just bad officiating

Every week it seems like the refs get worse and worse and there is no accountability over it. They are human and will make mistakes and miss things but at a certain point it really does just seem like they favor some teams over others and absolutely hate a select few teams. One of the main issues is holding calls. If it truly happens on even play then it should be called because it is the rule and it will stop players from holding or they need to change the wording of the rule. And I get it, it’s to help the oline protect the QB they have to hold, sure, change the rule then because it just makes it look like the refs are favoring a team if they call holding on one team but then the other team never gets called for it even if a more blatant one if performed.

They lost that game, and now they're #1 in the country?

Also, wtf, why are Indiana and Notre Dame still ranked where they are?

Rant Can I gripe about team specific subreddits?

Does anyone else feel like they lose brain cells when they go to their team specific subreddits/forums.

I go to the OU page, and I feel dumber every single time I go there. I barely want to even talk around some of these people. I don't think they truly have the comprehension skills needed to be a part of the conversation.

I know that over the last 15 years, Oklahoma's education rankings have plummeted. But at some point you would think that even a modicum of critical thinking or common sense would trickle out of some of these people's brains.

And Twitter/X is even worse. It is like a cesspool of just pure stupid.

Does anyone else feel like this about the greater "digital" population of their fandom?

Rant Why do they always get the benefit of the doubt

I genuinely don't understand it anymore. Every single time this team finds itself in a questionable situation, people suddenly become professional excuse makers. If they win, it's proof that they're elite. If they struggle, there's always some explanation for why we shouldn't hold it against them. And if another team does the exact same thing, suddenly it's a completely different conversation.

How many times are we going to keep moving the goalposts for them? At some point, results have to matter more than reputation. You shouldn't get extra credit for what people think you're capable of doing. You should be judged by what you actually do.

What makes it even more frustrating is watching other teams get criticized for things that barely seem to register when this team does them. Apparently, context matters when it's convenient, but not when it isn't.

I'm not saying they're terrible, and I'm not saying they haven't accomplished anything worth respecting. I'm saying I'm tired of watching them receive the benefit of the doubt while everyone else has to prove themselves over and over again.

Rant If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Everyone said NIL would destroy college football, have y’all been watching? Shit has been amazing. They said Boosters would buy titles, the rich would get richer, and the sport would collapse into a semi-pro league for five schools. Five seasons in since NIL was legalized, let's look at what actually happened.

Before NIL (2015–2020 seasons):
1. Alabama or Clemson played in all six national title games
2. They won five of the six
3. Only five schools even reached a title game: Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State

Since NIL (2021–2025 seasons):
1. Champions: Georgia, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Indiana
2. Title game teams: Georgia, Alabama, TCU, Michigan, Washington, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Indiana, Miami
3. That's nine different programs in ten title-game spots

Indiana one of the losingest programs in college football history won a fucking national title. Under the old system, a program like that was locked out years in advance because the blue bloods were the only ones “recruiting” correctly. I honestly feel that it was because of NIL, the portal, a good coach, and committed backers a champion can be built in two years. Michigan won its first title since 1997. TCU and Washington reached the title game. Alabama hasn't won since 2020. Clemson hasn't been back to a title game since 2019. I get the sense that way more fans from dozens of schools now believe they have a real shot.

Now do we really need the PCSA? The Senate passed the Protect College Sports Act 77-22 on September 28, and now it's on to the House. It would regulate NIL deals and agents and set national eligibility and transfer rules. It also imposes a federal "valid business purpose" standard on NIL, and gives conditional antitrust protection to college sports rules while preempting state laws. In other words: tighter limits on NIL, tighter limits on transfers, and legal cover for the NCAA and conferences to write the rules again. The bill's supporters say it will level the playing field. But the how? CFB just got more level than it's been in decades, without Congress. Is it actually necessary are to be messing with college football to fix a system that's producing the best parity and most exciting playoffs we've ever had?
