Fun Driving Quirks in Burbank

I’ve learned a variety of new and inventive ways to drive and park since I moved here. Burbank has taught me so much!

- The “park at the end of the street with your rear tires just kissing the curb and everything else just hanging out in the middle of the intersection”

- The “stop in the right hand lane of a narrow two way street, put on your hazards and consider that a parking spot”

- The “was that a stop sign? All I saw was you guys stopping, so I figured I could just go.”

- And my new favorite, the “pretend your car is being towed by the car in front of you, so that when they stop at a stop sign and then go, you just roll through behind them like you’re one single vehicle.”

That last one was particularly annoying me this morning, so I pretended like every intersection in my neighborhood had a stop sign so they had to stop whether they liked it or not.

Help me find my rock!

Reddit I need your magic! I left a rock I use as a fidget on a table at Slice House in downtown Burbank! It was a majority white carnelian that fits quite fabulously in the palm of your hand. (There is also a chance it fell out of my pocket in the IMAX at AMC but I’m pretty sure it was left at Slice House)
photo is similar rock but not my rock

Media City Apartment Building Recommendations

Hello everyone! I'm curious if anyone has recommendations for apartments in the Media City Center area? I was looking at the First Street building but a bit turned off by the proximity to the highway (noise and pollution). I'd love to find ideally a one bedroom or studio where I can walk down to all the restaurants and movie theater. Thanks in advance!

USMST documentary screening in Santa Monica, CA this Saturday, 9pm

Hope this doesn't get flagged, as we believe it is important for us survivors.

TW

Los Angeles friends! Tomorrow, our documentary, U S M S T, will be screening at the Awareness Film Festival.

This screening is nearly sold out. However, thanks to a generous donation from 8B Media, we have 10 tickets at the discounted price of $15 (originally $25).

This is the last chance to see it in-theater before it goes to distribution.

Hope to see you there!

📅 Saturday, October 17, 2026 | 9:00 PM PDT
📍 Illusion Lounge Cabaret Theatre — 1418 4th St, Santa Monica, CA 90401
🎟️ Tickets: $15 (DM to claim yours)
🎥 Trailer here: https://www.8bmedia.com/usmst

U S M S T is a 77-minute, feature-length documentary exposing the hidden epidemic of sexual assault in the military. From personal accounts of several survivors, the film shows the travesty of what happens so often within our ranks, how survivors are treated after, some resources available, what we can be done to prevent it from happening again while assisting the survivors.

U S M S T screens as part of a four-film program titled “We Won’t Be Silenced,” followed by a live Q&A.

U S M S T has won a Gold Telly Award, screened at the Whistleblower Summit on Capitol Hill, and been recognized by ten independent juries to date. The film streams nationwide this Fall, which makes this Santa Monica screening one of the last opportunities to see it in person before wide release.

New airport terminal

The big appeal of the airport before was you could walk to car rental. Now you have to take a shuttle.

Everyone told me it’s not walkable when I got there. Is this accurate? I’ve been told at others airports something isn’t walkable and then it actually is.

New Burbank airport - be prepared if driving/valet

Flew out of the new terminal today on 7am flight and wanted to share the new experience. I recognize it’s just opened and hoping they will work through some issues.
- I have flown from BUR for work for last 6 plus years so I can only speak to parking valet and flying Southwest.
- Double check your nav to ensure it takes you to new location on Winona.
- Northbound traffic on Hollywood Way was a mess due to lane closures and malfunctioning traffic lights
- Valet was woefully understaffed, waited 10 mins for someone to give me a ticket and take keys. The walk is a bit longer to get to terminal, but not bad at all.
- There is only one terminal now so everyone is going through the same TSA checkpoint. Took 30 mins in regular TSA line, precheck line was significantly faster. A colleague went thru in 5 mins.
- Gate signs had wrong destinations, so people were very confused.
- Didn’t have time to grab coffee or snack, but they had a Starbucks kiosk and couple shops open, as well as a bar right after you get thru TSA. Didn’t see any restaurants open yet.

The days of rolling up to valet and getting to your gate in 10 mins or less are apparently over, but hoping they can streamline TSA a bit and work out some of the other bugs in the coming weeks/months. I guess it’s finally time to get precheck.

Did Burbank Firefighters Pac course correct?

Thumbnail

Text promoting Donahue as a “independent” started going out around noon yesterday, an hour later some friends received a different text promoting Nikki, Tamala and Donahue together.

Curious if the change was a course correction after backlash to the first text? I know I and others responded critically calling them out for calling Donahue an Independent with no political affiliation. 🙄 Or was it AB testing? Or based on demographics? If it was course correction then good on the Firefighters. 🙌 Though still not happy they endorsed Donahue.

How long will it take to walk from N Hollywood Way to the BUR terminal?

UPDATE: I did it! Took ten mins walking briskly. There was no one else walking and it was a little creepy in the dark because it’s all construction on both sides. Nice to get a half mile walk in before my flight, but don’t attempt if you’re running late. It’s a very slight incline, but totally doable.

Edit: to the NEW terminal!

If I have an uber driver drop me off right outside of the airport on the nearest cross streets, how long would it take to get to the terminal? I’ll just have a tiny rolling carry on. Prices are significantly lower to get dropped off outside the airport… thanks for the input!!

Nice one Amazon guy!

Saw this Amazon delivery bike parked in a handicap spot today. I doubt he would have this job if truly handicapped. There were numerous open spaces nearby.

People need to be respectful of handicap spots. There are many people who legitimately need them.

Magnolia Park Thief Alert

Last night this guy strutted onto my property and rode off with my son's bike.

I wanted to notify the community because this happened at 10:30pm when everybody was home and still awake. This guy walked down my driveway, past my house, to the rear of my property where there's an ADU with 3 apartments, which can be seen from the street. Four households with a total of six people on the property (although nobody saw/heard it happening). He walked past two signs saying "no trespassing, 24 hour video surveillance." This guy had no concern with being seen or confronted, which potentially makes him more dangerous than your average petty thief.

We did call the police and file a report. We don't care about the bike, but we do care about keeping the community and our property safe.

New airport terminal review.

Good
- bathrooms are beautiful and have hand wash, soap, and dryer all at one place. There are also unisex restrooms, pet relief areas, and sharps disposal like before.
- walking surfaces are smooth, easy to navigate and wide. Yay for universal access!
- boarding ramps are shaded! Awesome. Big upgrade. See pics in the comments.
- looks like plenty of food options (although they are not open yet). And there is a fun bar right at the terminal entry.

Bad
- only two lanes for cars. We came in at 10:30 on a random Wednesday and there was backup. Holidays will be horrific.
- regular tsa looked slow. Pre check was a breeze. This will probably get sorted out over time.
- flight status displays need review for ADA compliance. Thin white text is a bit difficult to read with busy background colors.
- view from the gates is not great. I suppose there is no requirement for pretty views but that’s something many airports offer and the prior terminal had views of the mountains.
- increase in parking and valet prices. Cheaper to take ride share now. If others agree, the increase in parking space (roughly 400 to 2,000) won’t matter. Hopefully price fluctuates with demand.

TBD
- didn’t try out the valet. I’m hoping that is excellent and fast. Not sure where the valet pay on the way out station is. The best part about the old terminal was going from landing to on the road in 10 min.
- haven’t tried ride share pickup experience.

Anyone around here rollerblade?

I got a pair last year and was really dedicated to learning for about 6 months, then got bored with it. Now I want to get back at it but I think I'd be more into it if I was going out with a friend or a group.

New Burbank Airport Terminal

Just happened to be flying out of Burbank today so I get to see the terminal. It's larger and more spacious than the old terminal.

No hot food or coffee open yet, only grab and go sandwiches and salads. Hoping these places open soon! Glad to see the variety, but sad I wasn't able to partake.

TSA line was long, took almost 30 minutes to get through. There is only one TSA for the entire terminal. If you have pre-check, that line was a lot shorter.

Parked in Lot G and took the shuttle over. Shuttles seem to be running every 5 minutes. It was very easy to do, but a lot of people on the shuttle were confused about the new terminal. Hoping more parking lots are built in the near future as I can see Lots F and G potentially filling up fast during busy periods.

Overall, it seems like an improvement and looking forward to seeing it again in the future when more stores are open.
