Hello r/Boruto!
Following the recent Naruto: What’s Next? panel, there has been a lot of discussion about Boruto's place in the whole entire franchise. Disappointment about how little Boruto was shown is understandable, and I would have liked to see more myself, which is something I was expecting. I think some of the cards on the roadmap are specifically reserved for Boruto, too.
That being said, there's a couple of things I want to go over. Criticizing the series is fine. Enjoying it and defending what you like about it is also fine. You can question the pacing, artwork, story decisions or promotion without having your motives questioned, and you can enjoy those same things without being mocked for it.
What crosses the line is turning those disagreements into personal insults, harassment or judgments about someone else's intelligence, character, or morals. Calling people fake fans for criticizing Boruto, or likewise treating people as idiots for enjoying it, does nothing for the discussion and does not serve this community in any way.
It is my position that this subreddit will not be an echo chamber in either direction. Its mood will naturally follow how people feel about the series and the news around it. At times, it will lean one way. Nothing gets removed for which side it takes, and nobody gets to push the other side out with insults, dogpiling, or telling them to leave. Again, you don't have to be positive about the series, and you don't have to apologize for enjoying it either. The basic expectation for everyone to treat other members with basic respect.
I have been in enough anime, manga and gaming communities to know how quickly discussion gets buried under arguments about the fans themselves. Sometimes that might have been the case even here, with us removing the most severe of cases. I'd like us to address this before it becomes the norm here.
We will remove personal attacks and harassment regardless of whether they come from someone defending or criticizing the series. Please report rule breaking posts and comments rather than escalating the argument.
You don’t have to agree with each other about anything. You do, however, have to leave room for each other to participate in a fair way.
Have a happy rest of the week!

i am almost done with jojos and realize even though each part features a different mc of the same verse, none of them r being hated, its because they dont shat on the legacy of old charecters, charecters were brutally nerfed in boruto + writing and art was below average in nng, they showd everyones fav charecter naruto being a terrible father
Change my mind

I know there are many characters who are both, but also characters who are more skilled than insanly powerful and vise versa.
If you had to choose between one over the other, what kind of fighter do you prefer?
A more powerful character like Naruto or Hima or someone who is more skilled like Boruto or Minato?

It's becoming repetitive, Sarada being put in danger and, at best, only barely able to keep herself alive until Boruto swoops in to take over the whole fight. I know the story's trying to tease their romance, but is a woman being protected by "her man" really all the story's capable of in that department? Didn't the franchise learn anything from how the romances in Naruto were received?
It would be fine if Sarada the story didn't keep telling us how powerful Sarada is, or supposed to be, but you can't have her in the role of damsel waiting to be protected by her knight, and also expect people to see her as a powerful fighter.

Going straight to the point... I think Boruto and Sarada will manage to defeat Hidari, however Sarada will be fatally wounded and Boruto will be forced to choose between saving her life or taking Hidari's Soul Seed back to Sasuke to waken him up before he dies. Obviously he is going to choose Sarada and Sasuke will die... I think this is what Koji is talking about here, saying that nobody has the right to blame Boruto for whatever is going to happen next , and telling him to follow his heart... Just thinking about it makes me depressed, but the more I think about it the more I believe Im correct... I think we gonna lose Sasuke...

I mean c'mon the glasses, the apron, he's working in bookstore... This is from the episode where Naruto is depressed and he stops in front of a bookstore to look at a poster for Icha Icha Tactics.

I mean obviously she wouldn't be a damsel then exactly, but I'm talking about a character who in general is just the object to be saved for the sake of the plot. Honestly, I don't see anyone calling Sarada that if she wasn't a female.
In the first arc of Two Blue Vortex, she already does better and is more useful than the majority of the characters on the good guys' side. The only people more competent than her would be Boruto and (maybe) Shikamaru (and that's really due to him being the Hokage). Just look at her vs Hidari, where she performed better than everyone else EASILY, even going as far as to deal mortal injuries to Hidari, completely alone, within 2 pages. Sure, she did need Boruto's help, but so did literally everyone else in that situation, and once Boruto did arrive, he only won due to Sarada's teamwork.
In the second arc of Two Blue Vortex, she was obviously a key player that didn't need any rescuing. She was actually the opposite of the damsel in distress by having to rescue everyone else and defeat the main villain all by herself using her own powers alone.
In the third arc of Two Blue Vortex, not only did she take out a bunch of Mamushis, she was also a key component to the second plan made by Shikamaru. Even when it failed, it didn't mean that she specifically was incompetent / needed rescuing, but rather that Mamushi was such an overwhelming opponent for the entirety of the village and Daemon combined that Inojin had to make his sacrifice.
In the fourth arc of Two Blue Vortex, despite BORUTO'S plan failing, she instantly came up with a better plan for Boruto to infiltrate on the spot using her wit and powers. She proceeds to have to fight two different opponents at once, and still loses due to Code sneaking rather than winning in a fight straight on. Boruto arrives, only due to her to begin with.
Even in NNG, with the handful of the fights that she did have, she was very much useful in most of them too (Boro fight, Ao fight, Shojoji fight, Mujina Bandits encounter, all of Chunin exams etc etc).
Sure, if your definition of a Damsel In Distress is that it is a young female character that needs saving, sure Sarada is one, but that's not at all a bad thing under that definition. Characters not being able to do everything alone is what makes stories interesting.
Also Boruto has way more characters that constantly need rescuing compared to Sarada.
-Boruto has needed rescuing in every arc of Boruto, NNG and TBV included. Against Momoshiki, against Shojoji, against Ao, against Delta and Boro and Isshiki, against Code, against Kawaki, against Jura twice, against Mamushi.
-Same with Kawaki in every arc since his introduction. Of course against Boro, Isshiki, Code, Jura, Mamushi.
-Naruto, the strongest ninja like ever, required rescuing in most arcs that he was an active player in. He had entire rescue arcs for Momoshiki and Jigen aftermaths, got saved against Code, got saved against Isshiki
-Konohamaru, yeah, Konohamaru, I don't need to say much more.
All I'd say are in the main cast of Boruto, yet I don't see anyone calling them what they call Sarada, despite arguably being worse. It just reeks of sexism if you ask me. If Sarada had Sasuke's design, you'd bet she would never be called a damsel in distress.
But that's just my thoughts! What do you think? If Sarada wasn't a female, would she still be considered a damsel in distress? Thanks for reading this far and have a splendid day! ;D

Well, it’s starting to get pretty obvious, don’t you think? Ikemoto writes Sarada to be just a damsel in distress, to be saved by Boruto every time? And all her characterization and development is only related to Boruto, it's getting damn ridiculous for her😬

I really want that "mental battle" against Momoshiki to be Boruto's final task, but hey...😂
Shibai?
Kawaki?
Maybe even Code because he is going to surprise us all?🤯
What do you think?

What we seen, sarada could not even keep up or do anything against code despite she had many advantages! Neither her sharingan and skills could catch code at all...
Meanwhile, sasuke could fatally damage code in a much worse situation!
Sarada was protected by code in a certain level, while sasuke protected boruto, and faced against an army of claw grimes beside code!
So, finally, the copers can see sarada was never stronger than sasuke? Like by basic logic, why she would be? She has only mangekyou sharingan, but sasuke has 1 eternal mangekyou sharingan!!! :/
Thats probably true for boruto and kawaki... their kama seems not as strong as the otsutsuki who imprinted them!

I know Boruto wants to be like Sasuke an Shadow Hokage, but he dont need to imitate his personality, Boruto from NNG was a whole different character than what i saw in TBV.
Its like Comparing Gohan and Future Gohan.

The entirety of TBV is the Shinju Clone arc. There have been a couple of key points in the arc, like Mamushi, but its still a single arc.

I can understand people criticizing Sarada's performance and saying that it could have been handled better. That's completely fair. However, guys, the problem isn't Sarada herself, but how Ikemoto chose to write and portray her in this fight. The character isn't to blame for the way the author decided to handle the situation.
What I don't agree with is people calling Sarada weak.
First of all, considering the circumstances and the environment she was fighting in, she barely had any advantages. Boruto had already made it clear that the main purpose was for him to get inside that place, and that Sarada wasn't supposed to fight. As we can see, she wasn't actually fighting seriously. She was waiting for Boruto to arrive.
You can absolutely criticize the fact that she didn't get a more impressive fight or that you expected her to do more. That's fine. But the plan was for her to wait for Boruto and trust him.
In the previous chapter, Sarada could have escaped and saved herself, but she chose to trust Boruto instead. And what did she use her Mangekyo Sharingan for? Did she use it to pull Code toward her? No. She used it to pull her earring toward herself. In other words, she was already aware of the consequences and the risks, yet she still chose to trust Boruto.
These chapters have consistently emphasized just how much Sarada trusts him, to the point of placing an almost unconditional amount of faith in him.
I understand that some people are disappointed with her performance. Everyone has the right to feel that way. But calling her weak based on this fight makes absolutely no sense to me.
Sarada didn't use her Mangekyo Sharingan. She didn't even use her regular Sharingan. The only jutsu we actually saw her use was Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu, which is hardly enough to judge the full extent of her abilities.
So how can people claim that her abilities are ineffective or that she is weak when she didn't even use them in the first place?
Yes, Sarada might have stamina limitations. Yes, you can argue that you wish she had the Byakugan, or that you wanted her to demonstrate greater physical endurance. Those are legitimate points to discuss. You can also criticize the writing, the way she was put in danger, or the decision to make her rely so heavily on Boruto.
But there's a huge difference between saying, "I wish Sarada had done more in this fight," and saying, "Sarada is weak."
She had only recently left the hospital, she was already dealing with the situation surrounding Boruto's plan, and she agreed to trust him. The narrative is clearly emphasizing her trust in him, rather than giving her a proper opportunity to showcase her combat abilities.
And let's not forget that using her Mangekyo Sharingan could have come with serious physical consequences. Sure, she might have become exhausted if she had used it. But she DIDN'T USE IT. You can't criticize her for the limitations of abilities she never even activated in this fight.
My point is simple: criticize Ikemoto's writing if you want. Say that Sarada deserved better, that her fight should have been more impressive, or that you expected more from her. I can understand all of that.
But don't use a fight in which she barely used any of her actual abilities as proof that she's weak.
You cannot judge the full extent of a character's abilities based on a fight in which those abilities were never even put to the test.

I think Sarada will "die" or suffer major injuries, that's what will trigger borushiki, and hidari will save her,
And probably she would unlock the Rinnegan.
What do you guys think about the next chapter, I hope we got to see a conclusion of the hidari arc soon, to me this is getting really boring.
We got see what Jura will do.

I see what Ikemoto wants to add to the story. The cliché of "politician don't see/outright ignore the obvious threat to the public because they only care about themselves" is sadly true in real life and is common in many fictions.
...but in this case, can you really blame then for not perceiving the Shinjus as a thret to humanity?
Three out of five are already dead (four if you count Hidari's first defeat)
The assault on Gaara was kept a secret (and when it was revealed, Matsuri was already dealt with)
Mamushi was walking around the village asking about Eida and didn't bother any villagers until he was provoked or attacked first (and in any case he was killed in the span of an hour)
Jura is chilling in Konoha, always paying in cash, never bothering anyone.
...so, put yourself in the politicians' shoes: would you take these guys as a menace to society?
