Post image
125 Upvotes

Hello. With the announcement of the new Naruto Shadow Rising manga, there has been an influx of post about Boruto status as a sequel and its canonicity in general. Please keep the discussion on this thread, all posts outside of this thread related to Boruto's canon status and/or Kishimoto's interview on his involvement on the series will be removed. This is to prevent the sub from being flooded by these posts.

Apologies and hope you all understand.

Thanks!

Manga Spoilers / Discussion I just read both Boruto mangas in a week and have a few questions Spoiler

Hello everyone!

I watched the anime up to the Boruto vs. Momoshiki fight, then binge-read both mangas. I’m caught up now, but I have a few questions since I read everything so quickly.

  1. Does Nue not exist in the manga? I remember it from the anime, but I don't recall seeing it in the manga.

  2. Is Jura essentially the Ten-Tails jinchūriki? Or something different?

  3. Could Boruto and Momoshiki eventually become friends, like Naruto and Kurama? Or is their situation fundamentally different?

  4. Can Sarada use Susanoo with her Mangekyō Sharingan? Is it guaranteed, or does it depend on how her abilities develop?

  5. What do you think Sumire put on Boruto's sword? Did I miss something, or is it still unknown?

Also, after looking through the sub's posts looking for answers and seeing how much everyone cares about the love triangle, I personally find BoruSumi a cuter and more appealing ship than BoruSara, but that's just my opinion! Please don't kill me in the comments!

Anyway, I'd really appreciated any help with my questions. Thanks in advance!

Leaks A rant regarding my how I feel about Sarada Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
78 Upvotes

Real Sarada fans(if any left ,not Borusara stans )should have realised that Borusara is doing nothing but disservice to her character. When they claim that she will grow stronger while in love with Boruto ,I bear with that earlier from chapter 21 of tbv . I was so excited that she has a broken ms now she will not be treated as poorly as other characters from the series were treated but here we are .

Atleast in the next generation manga, whether she was not involved anywhere , I saw her in a more positive light than she is now. Even if she wasn't much involved in this manga due to having no romantic feelings for Boruto ,it would have been much better than her being damsel in distress in every arc.Her character is doomed as of now ,if I'm being honest . She is nothing better than Sakura 2.0 or even Hinata 2.0 . You know what's sad? As for Sakura or Hinata, their character introduction was that they were all about their love life so even if they did something throughout the series ,it came as an improvement because nobody expected anything from them but Sarada had a dream 😭😭 ,a goal which is so important as no other Uchiha has been elected as a Hokage earlier , I became so invested in her character,I thought she will be this badass person like her father , she will be among the best female characters in this series along with Tsunade , Chiyo and Mei but her crush on Boruto destroyed everything. I'm not a fan of Sumire but she is honestly saved from all this blasphemy Sarada is facing right now. Why did they give her Hokage dream if she has to become ultimately Boruto's wife. They should have introduced her character wanting to be by Boruto's side , I would have no expectations from her then. And also her fighting styles? No use of skills ? Constantly relying on ms , chirori , fireballs?

I don't want to have any expectations regarding her character anymore but there's still hope in me . I know in upcoming arc code has broken her arm and leg and she will be sidelined .

I'm so excited about the upcoming plot of how kobu is gonna mess up ninja's system

How momoshiki is gonna possess Boruto's body

How Hidari's character gonna change in the upcoming chapters and his relationship with Jura

What is going to happen to Himawari now

But I'm also scared of Sarada being a damsel in distress again ,gushing about her crush to Ada or Sakura once again 🥲 I'm tired of all this .

Unlike other Naruto fans , I like this manga but I cannot continue because of my fav getting damsel treatment every time. If there's any Sarada fan (not Borusara fan) how are y'all feeling right now? Are you feeling like dropping this manga due to her poor treatment? I'm ready to get slandered by comments 🤧😂🤣

Anime / Analysis What iff...wasabi was Kiba's adoptive daughter?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Wasabi is a new-generation shinobi belonging to the Izuno clan—a group that specializes in cats, much like the Inuzuka clan specializes in dogs and the Aburame clan in insects. Wasabi is a member of Team 15, alongside Namida Suzumeno, Sumire Kakei, and later, Tsubaki Kurogane from the Land of Iron; the team is led by Hanabi Hyuga. Wasabi is an excellent shinobi and serves as the team’s leader; among the new generation of female shinobi, she is arguably the third strongest, surpassed only by Sarada and Chocho (as well as Mirai). I should clarify that I really like her character just as she is, but a question occurs to me: what if she had been Kiba’s adopted daughter? In the sequel, Kiba is unmarried, though he is in a relationship with Tamaki—the granddaughter of the Uchiha clan’s arms dealer who appeared in the original series. Much like her grandmother, Tamaki has a deep connection to cats, though it is never explicitly stated whether she belongs to the Izuno clan. If things had played out that way—if Wasabi had been entrusted to them, with Kiba and Tamaki acting as her guardians—how do you think the story might have evolved, especially considering that Kiba would have suddenly found himself with a daughter whose personality is so similar to his own but that love Cat? Just to be clear, I am well aware that Wasabi’s parents are alive and have even made appearances.

Manga Spoilers / Theory Momoshiki took control of boruto before konoha being destroyed Spoiler

I don’t know if it was mentioned there before, but in chapter 1 of boruto we saw that his right sleeve is destroyed like after using odama rasengan. We only saw two times boruto using it, once while fighting momoshiki
which resulted in destroyed sleeve also when we saw borushiki for the first time. He used a massive rasengan to destroy boro and also his right sleeve was destroyed. So in my opinion momoshiki might be the one who destroyed konoha. Also we don’t know if boruto has enough chakra to do such a thing by his own self to that’s led us to a question”Did momoshiki do sth to hima? She has now a nine tails and prolly the most chakra.

Ryu catches Code off guard so Ryu > Code. Now Code is able to beat Hidari off guard, so is he stronger than Hidari ?

Sarada is stronger than Code because she beat Ryu 😂😂. Ohirume merchant gets humbled twice.

So what is it ? Hidari > Sarada > Ryu > Code ? Or is it Code > Hidari > Sarada > Ryu ? Or is something else. Where are the chain scalers now ?

Code himself says he only needs ONE HIT for Hidari. That is a statement. So where are the statement merchants now ? Who disregard feats because of some statements ?

Anime / Discussion Anyone else confused at the lack of cohesion between the Ōtsutsuki and the Naruto series?

I remember back when OG Boruto was in the midst of its run there was a lot of fan theory regarding the nature of karma and Orochimaru's curse mark/Byakugou seal. Another really cool theory that was discussed years ago was the idea of the Reaper Death Seal ghost and Lord Jashin possibly being Otsutsukis. Hell Kaguya herself was introduced as an Otsutsuki at the end of Naruto.

We then get to Boruto and we're introduced to villains that appear from nowhere in terms of the narrative (e.g Momoshiki coming from outer space like Vegeta, Isshiki hiding during the entirety of Naruto) or villains that are produced by methods never previously discussed (e.g Jura and co. formed with claw marks). Do I have a particular issue with any of those villains? No. Does it feel very weird that Boruto makes very little effort to use any previous material to make villains feel like a part of the setting? Yes! In fact I find it very strange as a writing decision, one because tying villains to previously established lore can serve as effective build-up (see: Madara in the War Arc) and make a new entry in the series feel like a natural continuation of what came before it.

Like, let me see Kaguya in Boruto talk about how theirs this one dude she beat the hell out of that might come looking for revenge. Or have Amado mention he was a Sound Village scientist a long time ago and heard rumors that Lord Orochimaru wanted to take over someone's body, and how that inspired him to save his daughter. Lets get Isshiki talking about how a previous Otsutsuki came to Earth before him, some guy with long hair and a devilish appearance, but he mysteriously went missing. Maybe a Kara member has a flashback to when they tried to join the Akatsuki but were rejected. The details don't matter, it's the use of simple narrative building blocks that concerns me.

It's like there was a mandate by whomever to make Boruto stand on its own as a series but it ended up interpreted as "write whatever you want, no need to pay attention to the previous entry". Ikemoto is one of the OGs that's been there for Naruto's writing process but you would assume that he just got hired and vaguely heard of Naruto. I think that's why the jokes about Boruto being "non-canon" hit, because honestly it lowkey feels disconnected. Out of all the reasons Boruto gets hated on I find the lack of cohesion between Naruto and Boruto the oddest thing, like an itch I can't scratch. Anyone know what I mean?

Leaks Insight into Kawaki's Evolving Mindset Spoiler

So this is something that can easily be lost in translation, but in the latest chapter in Japanese, Kawaki has started speaking using the kanji for Otsutsuki but with two different furigana pronunciations.

Sometimes he uses 大筒木 (おおつつき, Otsutsuki) and sometimes he uses 大筒木 (ヤツら, yatsura). Yatsura means, roughly, "those lowlifes," though it's often translated as "bastards" just like every other vulgar version of "those guys" in Japanese, and he's now grouping in not just the Otsutsuki, but every threat associated with them.

In other words, "Ohtsutsuki" is becoming the word he thinks of in his mind when referring to any of those whose existence threaten the peace Naruto built, include Code, the Divine Tree Beings, and both Boruto and himself.

My translation for his monologue, trying to keep to official Viz style, would be something like:

Kawaki: "There are still so many jerks I need to kill."

Kawaki: "The Ohtsutsuki, and..."

Kawaki: "...that whole pack of animals tied to 'em..."

Kawaki: "The peace you tried to build from the ground up..."

Kawaki: "...and the ruin that could tear it down..."

Kawaki: "Momoshiki, Code."

Kawaki: "The Divine Tree Beings..."

Kawaki: "Those [Ohtsutsuki] lowlifes keep bringing ruin to our doorstep."

Kawaki: "That's just what the Ohtsutsuki are."

Kawaki: "Until we wipe out every last one of those [Ohtsutsuki] lowlifes..."

Kawaki: "...this world will never know true peace."

Kawaki: "That's why I'll kill 'em."

Kawaki: "They all need to be wiped out."

Kawaki: "Anyone who's already turned into an Ohtsutsuki..."

Kawaki: "...including Boruto and me."

Anime / Discussion What is one minor, and I mean MINOR, pet peeve you have about this series?

Post image
20 Upvotes

I want to know what this community's minor pet peeves are for this series. I'm talking petty, small, and not even worth a second thought, but it still eats away at you. I want some real pet peeves, not some major, overly done complaints like how Kakashi got DMS or Sarada's MS. Give me some actual pet peeves

For me, I'd have to say that my main pet peeve is the fact that Mei's main style is water rather than fire. I get that affinities aren't a point system but instead your natural preference, but with two whole Kekkei Genkai revolving around fire, you'd think that her go to style would be fire, right? I get that culturally speaking, it would make sense for Mei to use water style since she was raised in the Hidden Mist, but like, realistically speaking, she should be the most comfortable with fire style. You literally need to make fire style chakra to use your damn Kekkei Genkai! If she actually trained to use fire style specifically on top of training her Kekkei Genkai, then she would be getting like 3 times the amount of training in fire style when compared to the other two base types! Dare I say, she'd be high tier Uchiha level in terms of fire usage!

Manga Spoilers / Discussion How long can Boruto keep running on empty before his body quits? Spoiler

I've managed crews for years and the guys who never take lunch, who skip sleep to finish a job, who treat rest like weakness, they burn out hard. Sometimes they collapse on site. Sometimes they just slow down until someone notices they're not pulling weight anymore.

Leaks This amateurish mistake is going to doom the world Spoiler

Post image
89 Upvotes

It is common knowledge that if you write something on a block of papers, you will leave marks on the page immediately under it.

One would think that a ninja is automatically aware of that and have a more discreet way of writing down a secret message.

Not this ninja though. This ninja asked a notebook, wrote the message on in, ripped the piece of paper, then returned the notebook to its owner.

This ninja left a huge incriminating evidence around and forgot about it FOR DAYS.

Even if this ninja has the advantage of the all-seeing Kashin Koji warning him in advance that the higher-ups want to interrogate him and fire his ass, this ninja still did NOTHING to help his case.

And now this "little" mistake is going to cost him, the village and the whole nation a lot.

I see readers everywhere pointing out Code taking Ls all the time, or Sarada being a damsel in distress, but the real failure of a ninja is this ninja. And it's about time you all open your eyes and admit it.

Novel My Outline of the Naruto Project Spoiler

Thumbnail reddit.com
0 Upvotes

In response to recent announcement of Kishimoto-san's new Naruto Manga, there were recent discussions about how Boruto would become a non-canon. I hope it won't be true. I believe they won't just threw out years of story building for few inconsistencies and disappointments.

There was an old post here few months ago asking how would we write if we're writing Boruto and this was my Outline of the entire project and beyond. I had this idea immediately when Kaguya was introduced.

Given the timing of all this, I thought I would share my expectations and my fan-fic outline of the entire Naruto/Rasengan project.

Personally, I want Naruto to be just the First Act of a much larger saga. Then Boruto and finally Saruto.

How would you do it?

Leaks I find it very profound and interesting that the end of the ninja world wasn't due to some external alien threat but internal meddling by Politicians Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
149 Upvotes

Ever since late Next Generations, the idea of budget cuts has been mentioned a couple of times, and in Two Blue Vortex, we get to see a lot more of the internal political forces that seem to be pushing for the end of the Ninja village system.

Kawaki himself doesn't understand what it means to be a shinobi, takes shortcuts, and relies on scientific ninja tools openly tells Naruto that a Shinobi is just someone who dies needlessly, which is part of the reason he seals him away.

In the post-war society that Naruto helped bring about, the lords of these nations don't have any use for keeping around ninja, which is obviously foolish, but since they can't wage war against each other for greedy reasons, they can't just be funding them that much either. Naruto, as the world's hero, probably kept their ambitions in check, and the balance of power between the Daimyo lord and him was pretty balanced.

Now that Naruto is gone, they see an opportunity to replace the villages with Scientific Ninja tools, and since Shikamaru understands that there is still a very real threat from the Shinju and Otsutsuki, they want to replace him with Konohamaru too, leaving the village unstable. Part of the blame also lies with Shikamaru for not taking the 9th Hokage title officially.

What if what Koji said about Momo coming out happens during or maybe after the fact that Boruto has to choose between saving Sarada or Sasuke?

I doubt saving Sarada (again) will be a piece of cake this time. I feel like after Hidaris thorn bulb is up for grabs, Jura takes it and on the other hand, Code kidnaps Sarada. Which leads Boruto to decide who to save, Sarada or Sasuke..
