Advice request Am I just overthinking

Little background: My bichir has a 55 gallon tank right now since it is smaller and still growing but I have a 75 in the works of being made currently so please don’t worry 😅. I’ve had it for about half a year now and i purchased him from Petco. Yes I know Petco isn’t a good place but it was in their tiny wall tank with a bunch of tetras and cichlid mix hiding behind their singular plant surrounded by dead fish and I felt horrible. I set up a quarantine tank and went back the next day and picked it up super thin to a point it looked like a skeleton almost. I feed it (Mr miyagi even though I’m not sure if it’s a boy) every night and very occasionally a random snack if I’m up at midnight. As treats I give it neon tetras since I used to breed them but it’s main diet is a mix of predator pellets and these frozen cubes labeled as complete predator diet that has mysis shrimp, bloodworms and brine shrimp.

Big question :Even though I feed it consistently and have only ever missed two days a while ago for an er trip it comes up to the glass like it’s starving and stares at me waiting like it’s waiting for something. I definitely thought I feed it enough but I might be wrong. I don’t want to be accidentally feeding it too little but I also don’t want to fall for the classical cat trick of it trying to make me think I didn’t feed it to get more. After much struggle I got him to momentarily sit flat along the bottom and he measured to be a little under four inches

Discussion Tank mates for the Sengal Bichir

Post image

I have a Bichir that is about 2-3 inches at the moment and he is chilling in a 40 gal with congo tetras, dr fish, zebra danios and a red fin shark.

My goal is to up grade to a 65-75 Gallon tank this winter and keep the tetras, dr fish (dr garra) and the Bichir in the bigger tank. Im looking to increase their population but also add a couple other species.

Would Discus be a bad idea because they are too calm and peaceful? I was also pondering german ram cichlids, or something else that will add nice color to a nicely planted tank.

I have a platinum senegal bichir, my fish has been acting normal and everything but developed this mark out of the blue. Her tank mates are 4 rope fish, 3 bristle nose, another senegal, an angel fish, 4 blue gouramis, and a bgkf. Rank is a 220 gal tank. What could it be??
