Breakfast

• Upvotes

Any recommendations for city centre breakfast places? Planning a big day out and usually would start in Harlem but last few times we have been it’s not been up to scratch so thinking we need to change up the venue.
Open to cuisines/price options.

Thanks in advance

Tourists Don't Leave The House

I let rooms out in my house on a short term basis to tourists visiting the country. I've been astounded by the amount of guests I have who check in and don't leave their room/house during their whole stay. Often only leave to nip to the shop and back.

Is this common, What is this mindset? Why would you pay all this money travelling then not actual travel?

Is the property market rubbish atm?

I’m genuinely curious if anyone in the property market knows what things are like at the moment.. this house near us doesn’t seem to be selling in east belfast - It looks perfectly fine and desirable location well presented etc, but it’s been on the market for months, which is not giving me any confidence in selling my own home any time soon if homes are just sitting there not getting agreed 😅

Rock/metal gigs Friday 30th October?

Staying in the city centre and looking for a gig to go to, is there anything on? Rock/metal/punk/hardcore, anything noisy!

Does anyone have any good leads on where to sell my art?

I know there’s craft fairs and things but I want to get something more permanent. I did have some stuff in a pop up shop, but that was in Portadown and it had to close. I’ve contacted gift shops and museums.

I work mostly with slate and wood so it’s hard to display these things :)

Thanks in advance :)

Soft Plastic Supermarket Recycling

I’ve been living in Belfast for a few months and I’ve been putting aside the soft plastics that are marked on the packaging as ‘recycled at large supermarkets’. I went onto binmap.uk to see what supermarkets accept this recycling in Belfast, to see that there are none in the Belfast Council area. The closest on the map is O’Neill Road Recycling Centre over 6 miles away, but I don’t drive.

Is this just typical lack of research into services available in NI on a UK wide website, or is there actually nowhere I can recycle these in Belfast?

Mobile signal in this country / city is ridiculous

I know we all know it’s rubbish but honestly the only place to get a signal - decent signal is to be in the city centre.

Why the fuck do we all pay mobile bills for this rubbish.

Smart Parking Fine (Holywood Exchange Retail Park)

Not sure if this is the right sub for this but allow me to ask -

We got a parking charge notification from Smart Parking for overstaying in Holywood Exchange Retail Park. I'll be honest that I completely forgot that there was a 3-hour parking time limit there as we've been shopping there for a while and never got any fines.

Tried to appeal but got rejected, even after showing that we purchased stuff (sofa, food, light groceries) from the establishments there. I also tried to ask the retailers for help but seems like they can't do anything.

Has anyone successfully appealed a parking fine before? Is there any way I can still chase smart parking? I'm hoping not to pay a fine.

Thanks in advance!

Advice for problems with alcohol?

Hi everyone,

I've made a burner account to post this to try and keep it as anonymous as possible, but I'm looking for some advice on how to help a parent who has a problem with alcohol.

For context - I haven't discussed this with them at all, I'm still trying to figure out how to approach it to be honest. The drinking has been going on for a while, and I guess I've been burying my head in the sand about it for a long time, making excuses for them etc. I know that was wrong of me, I suppose I was just trying to protect them after quite a few difficult events for us both over the past 10-15 years. They still work, and wouldn't be on the drink whilst working, but it's every evening and weekend and it's starting to take a real toll on their physical health.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone in a similar position, how can I approach the conversation and is there anything that helped or made things worse?

I'm also interested in any local support groups or other resources, both for my parent and for me. I'm really beating myself up that I haven't acted sooner.

I'm hoping to approach this in a constructive manner and don't want to seem like I'm being judgemental.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hotels that don’t require id or bank card

i know it’s a long shot but are there any hotels that do not require id or a bank card, where i can book and check in without either. I’m currently fleeing from my partner who gets very angry when drunk, it’s just for one night. I don’t want to check into a domestic abuse hostel or anything like that because I have severe social anxiety and I’m not sure what to expect.

Organic dating in Belfast

24M, moved to Belfast recently. I’ve given the dating apps a fair go and honestly it’s been pretty bad with not much real conversation, and it all feels a bit soulless.
I’d much rather meet people in person, but being new here I don’t really know where to start. Where are you all meeting people? Clubs, pubs with a good atmosphere, anything really. Also if it’s somewhere I could make some friends too, since I’m still building a social circle here.

Thanks in advance!
