I have seen many posts and accounts from people who have experienced astral projection, but they usually come from individuals with a great deal of experience in the subject people who often gloss over the actual process of the soul separating from the body. For this reason, I would like to share the details of my own experience, while emphasizing that I have never been a spiritual person, I do not follow any religion, and I was previously unaware that such a thing even existed though I am currently looking into the topic.
On the afternoon of August 26, 2026, after putting it off for a long time, I decided to go outside and draw from life. It was something I'd wanted to do, but I was always too embarrassed. Since I was in my hometown, I went out into the countryside to draw alone. I found a shady rock where I could sit, and since I only had a mechanical pencil and an eraser, I decided to draw an almond tree. While I was focused on my drawing, I was also aware of my surroundings. There was a group of birds playing amongst themselves in the trees, until suddenly they fell silent and became startled. When I looked up, I saw a peregrine falcon fly overhead. I could see the feathers on its chest and its little legs in detail, it was thrilling for me.
At dusk, I decided to head home; I had dinner with my family and spent some time talking with them that evening. Around 1:00 a.m., I went to sleep. As I drifted off, I first had a dream (the typical, nonsensical kind where nothing remarkable happens) and then, I "woke up" into another dream. In this second dream, I was in my bedroom, lying in bed in the exact same position I was actually in at that moment (on my side, facing to the right). The atmosphere was warm and cozy. In front of me stood a white esparto-grass chair (a real piece of furniture from my room) with a mirror resting on it. Through the mirror, I could see the room around me: I saw myself lying there, facing the mirror, and I also saw my aunt asleep on a mattress on the floor. In the background, my mother was standing and folding sheets, and on the chair, next to the mirror, lay my mobile phone, showing two messages from friends of mine.
I felt very calm and at peace, I was quite comfortable, so I closed my eyes to drift back to sleep. However, I woke up in real life and began to feel a vibration in my head that grew increasingly intense. At the same time, I noticed my body gently rising (I should mention that I was lying on my side, facing to the right). I felt my body lose contact with the mattress and the pillow, and I could feel the bedsheet tightening as I ascended. Behind my back, there was a sense of significant movement in the room, it felt like wind, though it lacked the chill one typically feels from a breeze outdoors. I also heard what sounded like several small bells being shaken vigorously behind me. My body rose to a height of about one meter. At first, I was frightened, thinking it might be sleep paralysis, but I soon realized it wasn't; instead, I felt a surge of excitement at the fact that I was floating. Eventually, in my excitement, I managed to descend gently until I returned to my body. I got out of bed, it wasn't a dream, as I was already fully awake and sat there for a few minutes, trying to process what had just happened. At that moment, I kept thinking of my body as a very fragile shell. Yet, despite how strange the situation was, it didn't feel entirely unsettling, it was as if I had done this many times before; it was something I already knew. It’s very hard to describe—apologies for not being able to explain it better. Since then, I’ve made several attempts at astral projection, though none have gone as far as that first experience. I’ve also begun meditating using the *Gateway Experience* audio tracks, and during these sessions, I’ve been able to visualize images in my mind with great clarity.
I would like to analyze the dream I had that day and try to understand why it happened to me, because ever since then, I have been unable to simply turn my head, walk on by, and carry on with my life. I cannot stop thinking about that day, searching for some kind of answer. (Sorry for my English, I’m from Spain).
