Washing machine screeching noise
Washing machine makes about 15 of these noises 5 minutes into every cycle…any idea what is causing this? It has gotten a bit louder since this video

Title really says it all.
Credit to /u/Johnny_2x for posting:
http://www.appliance411.com/service/date-code.php
which can be used to help determine the manufacturing date of various appliances.
I'll add this one from the good folks over at appliance411.com as well:
http://www.appliance411.com/purchase/sears.shtml
which is a table that lets you find out who manufactured a Kenmore appliance based on the model prefix.
Drop any and all helpful links in the comments in this post only and I'll start compiling a master list. Please include a description.
Business referral rules still apply, so I don't want to see any links to local appliance repair outfits.
There are some kind of open secrets with regards to obtaining service manuals direct from manufacturers - you know what I'm talking about, techs - do not blow those up. Their lax security continues to exist for our benefit because they have not yet been abused enough to prompt them to fix the holes. Let's keep it that way.
Cheers,

For the next 30 days, you can and should reply to this thread stating your status as an active or former appliance repair technician. I don't need your whole resume, just maybe what you work on and for how long you've done so. You can also request a specific flair for this sub - if you don't, then you're at the mercy of what I come up with, so maybe include that.
It's nice to have flair here as it gives your advice a bit more weight, and OP's are more likely to follow your expert advice than be led down a rabbit hole by someone who is just pulling advice out of their... rabbit hole. I can't police every comment, so giving weight to actual technicians seems a decent measure.
This is also related to some changes in our sister sub /r/ApplianceTechTalk which is going to be transitioning to a more restrictive criteria for posting there.
Basically, that sub is for active and former techs only, but there have been a lot of lost redditors posting for repair advice over there, and I'm trying to keep things tidy, as well as automate pointing said lost redditors here where the community is much larger, and the sub better fits their needs.
The way this works is that if you have flair in this sub, you'll be an approved submitter on that sub. Unless your flair is "unhelpful" or "ASSHAT" (yes those are two real ones). I'm not sure what to do with "MEAT BAG SYMPATHIZER" but fortunately that account is 4 years inactive.
This is not a hard deadline, but it will make constructing the list of approved submitters on /r/ApplianceTechTalk a hell of a lot easier for me. After 30 days you can still apply on an individual basis. Approved submitters on /r/ApplianceTechTalk will also have the ability to choose and alter their flair at will in that sub, unlike here where flair is only granted upon approval.
You can post any questions, comments, or constructive criticism in this thread as well.
Cheers,

I feel like it is protruding more than it should but our inspector said it is installed correctly.

Last night we noticed a weird humming noise coming from the dishwasher and this morning I realized it never dispensed any water (detergent pod never got dissolved) and all of the dishes were still dirty. It would make a noise like it was trying to pump water in but no water would come out. I cleaned the filter in the dishwasher but after I put it back in it started making this noise. The filter should be installed correctly but maybe I messed something up?

Hello!
I have an LG WT715OCW top load washing machine. It's only about a year and a half old. We do laundry once to twice a week and use the recommended amounts of detergent and fabric softener.
For the last month or so we noticed these brownish flakes on our clothes and it started getting worse and worse. 2 sundays ago we had a repair guy come and steam cleaned the drum without removing it. We ran numerous tub clean cycles before washing clothes but the issue persisted. He came by again last weekend and took out the drum and steam cleaned it thoroughly. The issue persists unfortunately.
Now im reaching back out and no response. Is there anything else that can be causing this issue? I wanted to add that we also have used those Active brand washer tablets every month or so when we run the tub clean cycle.
Thank you!

I have a microwave which, when on, interrupts our Bluetooth baby monitor. Additionally, a phone inside it (while off ha) can receive phone calls.
Is this a concern about the shield being damaged? I'd hate to replace it only to find out that this is normal behaviour and not concerning. Hoping people in this sub know a thing or two about microwaves and damaged shields.

My Fisher & Paykel oven and microwave models OM60 Series 9 are stuck in demonstration mode. The screens are all touchscreen but I have a dial for navigating the menus, but I can’t see the demo disabling instructions anywhere online for these models…
Fisher and Paykel can only send a technician in 2 and a half weeks, and won’t give the instructions over the phone. I am hoping it is a secret combination of button pressing to turn it off.
If anyone knows how to disable demo mode on these ovens please let me know. Infuriating.

We just got this new dishwasher in our apartment and nothing on the top rack ever cleans. No matter how long or hot the cycle is. Bottom gets clean though. It’s brand new, nothing seems clogged because I checked the cycle midway through and water IS getting up there. We typically use Cascade Premium pods but I’ve been using Finish Ultimate since therw was a BOGO for them, would that matter at all?

Hey everyone,
My front-load LG WM3090CW is making washed clothes come out smelling like mold.
The issue seems to be persistent buildup behind/inside the rubber door boot gasket. The rubber itself is not torn or leaking.
I'm trying to decide the best path forward:
A: Clean existing boot: Pull off the current seal and do a deep bleach soak/scrub.
B: DIY Replacement: Buy a new gasket (Gemini indicates MDS47123619 is the right one, could not confirm) and spring expansion tool to replace it myself.
C: Hire a Tech: Pay a professional to handle the tear-down and service.
Is deep-cleaning an existing boot worth the hassle, or does black mold always come back?
How difficult is the DIY replacement on this specific LG series for a first-timer?
I appreciate any advice or experience!
Yes, I have tried many things (bleach cleaning/scrubbing the boot while in place, 5 tub clean cycles, etc), to no avail.

I would utilize the entire freezer for ice if I could.
Any suggestions?

So about two days ago the water and ice dispenser seemed to completely stop working out of nowhere. The control panel is completely out as well. None of the buttons work. Child lock isn't on either. However, the fridge and freezer still works fine. No signs of temperature change or spoilage. I don't think it's making new ice.
Tried unplugging it for 10 mins, twice now. Didn't fix. Anything else I can try? Thx.

I recently took apart my heat pump and filter assembly to fix what I assumed was a clog in the main vent. To my dismay it was clear. Why would my lint filter be getting wet like this? Is it a faulty RH sensor?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to diagnose a recurring F5 error on my Vestel VGS 60Y13 dishwasher (approximately 6 years old, regularly used for the past 4 years).
According to the manufacturer, F5 means insufficient water intake. However, my dishwasher successfully fills and washes before the error occurs.
What happens:
What I've already tried:
An unusual clue:
We experienced the same F5 problem previously. At that time, creating a downward U-shaped loop in the grey drainage hose immediately before its connection to the kitchen sink drainage appeared to fix the problem.
The dishwasher then worked again, but the error has now returned.
The dishwasher and a washing machine share the kitchen sink's drainage system.
I'm wondering whether the previous fix indicates a siphoning, drain ventilation or water-level sensing issue, or whether it was coincidental.
Questions for experienced repair technicians:
A service visit would cost around €200 for diagnosis alone, so I'm hoping to identify the faulty component before deciding whether to repair or replace the dishwasher.
I can provide photos of the plumbing and a video showing the exact error sequence.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would be grateful if anyone could give a preliminary diagnosis about the cause of this weird sound.

I have a Patton PCH4199 space heater that has a foam filter in the back and the filter is so old and like, falling apart that I want to replace it but I can't find a replacement filter from Patton. I guess they never made any for this one? I could use suggestions as to what to do because I don't need to replace the unit, it works fine. I just want a new foam filter in the back. I did buy an aquarium foam filter to cut to size and thinness because the back is where the air goes in so it doesn't get hot, at least to my knowledge. Would that still be a good idea?

Model: KDFA324SPS0 – Dishwasher Control Issue
I encountered this issue a few days ago and wanted to determine whether anyone else has experienced similar symptoms. The dishwasher is unresponsive to normal user input. Pressing the control panel buttons does not initiate operation or produce the expected response. However, the Control Lock function can still be activated by pressing and holding the designated button, and the unit can also be placed into diagnostic mode. This behavior suggests that the user interface is receiving power and retaining at least partial functionality. However, normal command inputs do not appear to be processed correctly. Potential areas of investigation include a faulty user interface/control panel, an issue with communication between the UI and the main control board, or a failure within the control circuitry. Has anyone encountered this specific failure pattern on this model, and if so, what was the root cause and corrective action?

Is this normal sound. This is the second step. The one before this is water. Then this sound. Then more water, then this sound again. And it repeats.

Woke up this morning finding water around the water dispenser because the ice in the door was melting. Fridge and freezer seemed warmer than usual.
I pulled the fridge away from the wall and checked behind. It sounds like the compressor is turning on and humming. Feels warm. The fan next to it is spinning.
Went through the different diagnostics from the panel and everything seems normal there.
Lights turn on and the deli tray control are working so I dont think thats the issue.
Their is some air coming from the back of the fridge and it seems "cool" but obviously not cold enough. The freezer part had some air coming out but then seems to shut off when it shouldn't since it hasn't reached temp.
I put a thermostat in there and both are about 60 degrees. I'm giving up on saving any of the food so no rush now.
Any suggestions or anything else I can check before I call an appliance repair person?
Bonus: I found the water connection dripping all the way on the right at the valve. Not where the water line connects but an internal connection right after that. Who knows how long thats been dripping but there is some corrosion on the bottom of the fridge.

This is the model: https://www.manua.ls/kitchenaid/ksgg700ess/manual?p=7&page=4
It used to work fine. Then, it stopped heating up to the right temperature. It was way too cool. Then it stopped heating up at all, as far as I can tell. No fan turns on or lights or anything when I press bake, broil, etc. The stove still works (gas)
Also, before it stopped heating up the oven light wouldn’t turn off. Not matter what we did. It’s got a little digital interface to turn it on and off and it just stayed on, now it seems to be dead.

It's been over 24 hours and it's not very cold still. The compressor is making this strange noise. Is this normal. There's a noise, a beep or a ringing right before the chugging starts. I can't find anything about it. Anyone got any ideas??

Error code F7E1. MODEL #MVW6230HW0.
only 5 years old. Used less than once a week. I live by myself. I have uniforms for work that work washes for me. Bought new, over $1,100.
Paid for a tech to come out says they generally replace both boards? Didn't even break out of voltmeter.
Reading through the flowchart, if all the user buttons work, the failure is in the motor controller board. Before I shred the thing and get a volt meter on it, anyone have an experience with this?
