Purchase Advice (U.S.) Help finding a good vacuum for mixed flooring

Hello all,

My spouse and I are looking to purchase a new vacuum, and I’m feeling very overwhelmed with the options. We were planning on a Dyson v15, but I’m hesitant after reading some posts on here. We’ve had a few $50 amazon models over the years that that usually die fairly quickly, and would like to purchase something that will actually last.

Our situation:
- 2 bedroom apartment. Bedrooms have carpet, everywhere else vinyl or tile.
- We both have long hair that sheds a lot and stops up vacuums frequently.
- One cat who also sheds a lot.
- Budget: Hopefully around $600 (what we were planning for the Dyson), but we can go up for a really good product.

I would prefer a stick/cordless model, but can be flexible on this. Assume I know nothing, so please feel free to tell me why I’m wrong, lol

Vacuum Review Sebo Felix. The vacuum I don't understand why people like it.

I don't get why the Felix is so loved on Reddit. I's an absolute nightmare to actually use.

I have used both the Felix and Dart. I hated both. Usability is terrible. The nozzle requires bending to control the height adjustment and brush roll on off. The hose is stupidly top mounted and pulling it tips the machine over instantly. Hard floor performance is abysmal without the separate hard floor attachment. Replacing the post motor filter requires taking off clips and squeezing a cloth sheet over the unit. Finally the ET1 power head has very weak agitation compared to Miele or Riccar.

For $150 less the Riccar R27 is better in every way than the Felix but I don't see people recommending it. Or the Dyson Animal 3 for half the price. Just empty it outside.

Purchase Advice (U.S.) Cordless Vacuum Recommendation Needed

My 7 year old Dyson cordless vacuum is now dead. It is not charging. I did a little research and learned that I might need to buy a new battery that costs at least $100. Therefore, I am thinking about getting a new vacuum.

My place is 750 sq ft. 1 bedroom apartment unit and I vacuum once every week. There is no carpet in my unit. My floor is either hardwood or laminate but I can't really tell. Please let me know if you have any good recommendation for cordless vacuum that is around $200 (or less). I am planning to buy a new cordless vacuum on Black Friday/ Cyber Monday.

I have never bought a vacuum on my own. (the 7-year old Dyson is a gift) so I am not sure what to look for. Please let me know if you need more information.

Thank you in advance!

Vacuum Issues CZ500UKT Shark Bagless Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner Startup Question

Post image
3 Upvotes

I have recently bought a CZ500UKT Shark Bagless Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner second hand.

However, I only have the base unit and do not have the hose / wand / powerhead etc.

I can see online that people use the buttons on the handle to start / power-on the unit.

I have tried plugging the base unit into the wall and using the big power button on it to turn it on to see if it works however there is no sound, no movement, no led, nothing...

I can't seem to find if the base unit needs the handle to power on, or if the base unit is broken.

I have tried a few different plugs, checked the cord for damage and changed the plug fuse but no luck.

I was hoping someone on here might know if you have the same unit. Do you need the handle to power the base unit on or can you get the base unit to start sucking by just pressing the big button?

Purchase Advice (U.S.) Tineco recommendations?

• Upvotes

Does anyone have enough experience or context to recommend one Tineco cordless vacuum over another?

I can't tell the meaningful difference in terms of functionality.

This will be used exclusively on tile and hardwood floors -- no carpet.

TIA!

Purchase Advice (U.S.) Vacuum Recommendation for Carpet, Stairs, and Dogs

• Upvotes

Hi there! I'm looking for a vacuum for my household.

Budget: Prefer under/at $200, but can stretch to $500 for better performance/durability.

Flooring/Space: Mostly carpet with some tile. Carpet stairs.

Pets: Two short haired, medium dogs who shed and a green cheek conure.

Preferences: Leaning towards a sealed bag solution for allergen containment, but open to options. Need the maneuverability to handle carpeted stairs.

Just want something that will last a good while and is reliable. Would love to hear y'all's recommendations!

I’ve had this for little under a year. I use it once a week to mop my apt. No kids and all I really pick up is food crumbs and hair. After every mop session I use the self clean option twice and then take apart and put it together 2 days after so it internally dries properly.

When I take it apart I wash the parts as well.

I began getting this error message for the roller about 3 weeks ago even though nothing was tangled down there. I’ve read it might be a dirty sensor but I can’t find it. Can anyone lead me in the right direction?
Thanks.

I found this 600a shop vac and it still appears to be running nicely. Can anyone help me find the right hose dimensions? Everything I find online claims it’s less than 2” but when i measured the hole, it shows over 2”.

Purchase Advice (U.S.) Budget Friendly Hardwood Vacuum (Please help!)

I am incredibly desperate for a decent, hopefully good, working vacuum. I initially wanted to keep it cordless, but after trying the Shark cordless rocket and various Amazon cordless vacuums, I feel utterly defeated. They are terrible and didn’t do anything but frustrate me.

I just need something lower than $200 that will actually help me clean around the apartment. Doesn’t have to be cordless (I’m now thinking cord vacuums may be better) or honestly within the budget since I can look around for second-hands. Please help!!

Context: Broke college student living with 2 kittens

Purchase Advice (U.S.) Oreck Magnesium vs. Kenmore Intuition BU4050?

I own the Oreck, and have the Kenmore sitting here in the box. I thought my Oreck was dead, so had ordered the Kenmore as a replacement, only to find that the Oreck cord just needed some jostling.

I’m still considering making the switch as I just slow-vacuumed my dense area rug with the Oreck and noticed a lot of dirt afterwards when I wiped a dry paper towel across it. I also have some LVP and dense carpet in other areas of my home.

I don’t have much storage space, so If like to keep one or the other. Thought I’d look to the experts here before perhaps unnecessarily unboxing the Kenmore. Happy to do so though if folks feel I’m going to have a better outcome!

Thanks in advance for any advice! Not concerned about the price of buying something new btw, as long as the performance will be better.

Vacuum Issues SEBO D4 Premium

Asking about this again. We bought a SEBO D4 thinking this would be a great vacuum and it is, but while it’s great on carpet, the pet smells that come out of this thing are awful.

The only advice we’ve gotten is to change the bag more frequently, but changing the bag after every use or even before it’s full is wasteful to me. I’ve tried adding activated carbon (for aquariums) to the bag as I’ve seen posted here to no avail. I’m going to try the SEBO scent things as a last resort.

It smells so bad (and we just had it cleaned/tuned up 4-5 months ago, smell immediately returned) that my wife doesn’t even use it on our hardwood floors, she uses the Dyson stick.

Knowing we spent $1300 on a vacuum we barely use drives me crazy. Should we just cut our losses and sell this thing if the scent beads don’t work?

Maybe we didn’t realize how good we had it with the central vacuum, but at this point I’m ready to trade this in for a cheap bissel until we can retro a central into this new home.

Purchase Advice (U.S.) Difficulty understanding the Budget Vacuum Recommendations

Hello. I recently moved out of my parents home to a job I really like, and my apartment is ok given the space and price. However, the entire place is a 1 bedroom covered in carpet, and I have noticed my dust allergies acting up much more. For that reason, I've been looking into a better vacuum cleaner.

I'm a little lost though. I don't mind paying a bit more, and do like how the Miele looks and is rated, but I kind of want something entry level first before I decide to dump a lot of money into a vacuum cleaner.

My ideal budget is somewhere closer to $100, but I can go up to $150 if the product seems really good. I tried looking at the budget vacuum recommendations, and a few of the options match my budget, like the Eureka Mighty Mite ($80) and the Sanitaire Mighty Mite ($120). But I also noticed that these products are labeled "Primarily hard floors, small amounts of carpet." I don't know if that's a deal breaker for me. My apartment is only 800 Sq. Ft. of all carpet (minus a small kitchen and the bathroom), but I have no frame of reference for what a "small amount of carpet" means.

In contrast, when I look at products recommended for carpet, like the Hoovers, for some reason they're going for more like $200 used and seem discontinued in general. I also feel wary of buying a used product of something I have no experience with. Especially because I have 0 idea of how to deal with the add-ons etc.

I was actually more thinking of buying something like the [Kenmore Intuition Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner Lightweight ($120)] or the [Vacmaster Commercial Grade Vacuum Cleaner 14L Capacity Ultra-Lightweight ($108)]. Would either of these options be ok? I'm also open to other suggestions as well.

EDIT: I would also like opinions on how much a 200 or 300 dollar vacuum will make in my life. I've been to a lot of enthusiast subreddits, and it's a real mixed back on how much "medium" or high end stuff makes a difference for the average person. For instance, I find that premium keyboards are for the most part a waste of money past the $80 mark, at least for someone like me who wears headphones all day when I type.

Picked up these two beauties for free off a FBMP listing. Love me some Champagne.

Sebo needs an overhaul but the Miele is basically unused. No complaints as I'm blessed to have recieved them for free. From a church at that.

Purchase Advice (Non-U.S.) Planning to get a car vacuum cleaner, any recommendations?

I’m planning to get a car vacuum cleaner because there’s way too much dust and food crumbs in my car, especially in those small spaces

The guy who washes my car doesn’t really clean the interiors properly, and he mostly focuses on the exterior anyway. He comes around 3 times a week, but I still feel like the interiors need regular cleaning.

I’ve heard eureka forbes is a trusted brand but i do not have much knowledge about it so i would love to know if i should explore other options or should i stick with it ?

Miscellaneous How useful are filtration ratings when comparing vacuum cleaners?

Title: What should we look at beyond a vacuum’s advertised filtration percentage?

Disclosure: I have a promotional relationship with eufy.

I've been looking more closely at how vacuum cleaners are evaluated for allergy-sensitive households. Filtration percentages are useful, but I think there's more to consider, including the design of the complete air path, dust containment, and how much dust can escape during routine maintenance.

I noticed that certain eufy products appear in the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) certified product listings, which got me interested in how these certifications compare with the numbers manufacturers publish.

I'm curious about the actual product-level differences here. When comparing an AAFA-certified eufy vacuum with another model that advertises a high-efficiency filter, what evidence would you want to see before deciding which is better suited to an allergy-sensitive home?

For example, would you prioritize whole-machine testing, sealed-system design, dust exposure during bin emptying, or independently measured particle emissions? And how much does the maintenance process itself affect your decision?

I'd be interested in hearing from people who have researched these systems in depth or compared them in everyday use. Which specifications or test results have actually helped you make a decision?

Found this Kenmore Progressive True HEPA 116 at the thrift store for $38. All accessories included and they look like they’ve never been touched. Came with extra bags, and I had it checked by a vacuum shop and they said it’s in great working order but for a broken step lock on the powered head and maybe replacing the belt sometime.

Purchase Advice (Non-U.S.) Dreame x60 pro ultra complete experiences?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Does anyone have experience with this robot vacuum? I’m particularly drawn to its extendable arms (as well as the fact that it can clean along baseboards), but I’m wondering if it gets stuck with the arms or if the arms break too easily? Is there any additional maintenance required, such as cleaning the washing sink (where it washes its pads)?

I’ve only had experience with Ecovacs myself (which I’m very happy with)—is Dreame similar in terms of software and such?

It’s still quite expensive, but I’m hoping for a Black Friday deal or a sale at a later date, so I’ll keep an eye out for it. If you have any suggestions for a relatively small/low robot that can get into tight corners a bit better, I’d definitely appreciate it.

Purchase Advice (U.S.) Nine furry pets, all hard floors...

Hi friends. I'm looking for a cordless or at least very lightweight vacuum for in between cleanings. I have some hardware in my foot so bending/lifting isn't always the most fun.

I have a big boy I pull out for cleaning days, and I also have a bi-weekly housecleaning team, so I'm just looking for something I can pull out for a quick 20 minute refresh during downtime.

I previously had some Dyson stick vacuum for about three years but frankly never loved it, and eventually the battery died. I followed it up with a cheap shark cordless that is also not very impressive and seems to trap smells.

Suggestions? I'm kind of intrigued by those "emptying stations".

I'm not totally sure about budget, I guess it depends on the vacuum. Id probably pull the trigger around $250 this weekend, but may go up and save a bit more if there's something really compelling.

Miscellaneous Robot vacuum obstacle avoidance: does more hardware actually make a difference?

I've been looking into how well newer robot vacuums handle everyday clutter, and I'm curious how much of the advertised obstacle avoidance performance translates to real homes.

Models like the Roborock lineup and eufy S1 Pro and Omni series use different combinations of sensors, cameras, lasers, and lighting. On paper, the specs sound impressive, but black charging cables, chew toys, and random stuff under the couch are still pretty tough obstacles.

I'm especially curious about the active LED lighting on some camera-based systems. Does it genuinely help with object detection in dark rooms, or are thin cables still difficult to spot regardless of the hardware?

Also, watching a robot suddenly light up a dark hallway in the middle of the night is pretty funny.

Full disclosure: I'm a product creator in this space, so I've been paying attention to how these systems work beyond the marketing claims. I'm interested in hearing from people who use these machines daily: which obstacles does your vacuum handle surprisingly well, and which ones does it still struggle with?

I'd love to hear some real-world experiences.
