We are both into genealogy so we wanted to share these are her results. Surnames in family: Madrigal, Gutierrez, Maya, Zapien, Peralta, Aranda/Perea
My mom’s side is partly from Mexico (mostly central) and partly from New Mexico, Santa Fe.
I also chose this photo of my mom and her sisters because I really like their hair in this photo and they look trendy with the vintage tee, and thin brows. There’s 12 siblings in total however.

These are by far the most accurate results I’ve ever gotten from one of these sites.
My known ancestry:
4/8 great-grandparents’ families are from the Caserta & Avellino regions of Campania.
2/8 great-grandparents’ families are from Mazara del Vallo in Sicily.
2/8 great-grandparents came from Ashkenazi Jewish families, one side from Ukraine and the other from Austria.
Paternal Haplogroup: E-L29 (Campania)
Maternal Haplogroup: T1a1 (Sicily)

I am mad that out money was spent on god knows how many tokens from Open AI or Anthropic to get this new update that completely lacks nuance. AI can process data and split it into clusters for sure, what it can't do is understand regional context and realize that people with similar DNA in Quebec cannot be "from Quebec" because almost no one is from Quebec because most people migrated there. That's an obvious example of shitty "reasoning" that I picked up from the sub.
My little tragedy is the erasure of my diverse eastern and nothern european anscestry into "Russian" and "Eastern lowlands" whatever that means. Just incredibly shallow. Russia is not homogeneous at all. There are hundreds of ethnicities. Plus folding Belarus and Ukraine into one is also crazy! That´s like half of eastern Europe.
AI cannot think, it can only imitate thinking. It can process data, but it cannot draw conclusions because it cannot think. Shame on AncestryDNA for trying to cut corners this way. Hire talented people and let them cook. Stop paying to Open AI or Anthropic or whatever to make your processes "more efficient".

Just got my hacked results after having issues before with forbidden. I hadn't realised you had to go to Ancestry.com for the code not my local. co.uk
Still no help though because I should have Welsh from my great grandad who was from South Wales

split for the Scottish part is interesting. The Connacht and Donegal being removed makes more sense as I'm not aware of any relatives from there, but my paternal granny's side is from Leinster

It's next to impossible to figure out the family tree/dna matches. The damn thing is more of a wreath then a tree.
I can't find any program that shows pedigree collapse to track it better. I can't figure out who a good chunk of my dna matches are because it shows relations on both side. I can't figure out how we are related in some cases 1st cousin, second cousin ect .
I have a "2nd cousin" we grew up knowing we were second cousins. It shows up as a half second cousin and I can't figure out who actually doesn't have the same great grandfather because all the matches show up so damn weird or if it's a complete screw up because we are related on the maternal and paternal sides yet it's only showing up paternal.
There are relations that show up as both side but shouldn't be possible because of where each side of the family came from.
Like I get that when they all came to Canada that they lived in a small area and travel was next to impossible or took a long time so most people didn't but this is damn ridiculous.
Both sides kept a pretty good written family tree so why the hell would they keep doing this??
There's a reason my generation had to memorize the family tree before we started dating people and most of us dated out of the area to avoid this.
I use to "joke" I was related to 3/4 of my public school and a couple teachers... It wasn't really a joke
I am so tired of trying to untangle all of this.
Is anyone is the same boat?

I was adopted out of my birth family, but I’ve since reunited with them, stayed in touch and traced a significant part of my ancestry. I’m especially happy to see Quebec represented, as I’ve discovered Quebecois roots on both sides of my birth family. My birth father was French Creole and my birth mother was of mixed Black and white ancestry. She was conceived through an affair and born during a time when interracial marriage was illegal, adding another complex layer to my family’s history. I am so happy to see the expansion of my African origins.

A new genealogy report highlights 50 surnames with historical links to Britain's royal and aristocratic families.
While having one of these surnames doesn't prove a connection, it has sparked renewed interest in family history and ancestry research.
For those who've looked into their family tree:
What's the most surprising thing you've discovered about your ancestors?
Did you find any links to notable historical figures, nobility, royalty, or completely unexpected occupations and stories?

These labels appeared on some of my DNA origins with the new update, but there is no additional information as to why they’re considered to be “novelty”. Anyone know more about this new feature?

love being diverse and coming from two nations who are quite nationalist and proud!!
I believe a lot of my Pakistani side comes from more Afghani routes as my family live close to the borders. I also get told I look Arab, Spanish or Italian. (Though usually other Pakistanis or Arabs assume I’m from some sort of Muslim country)

(I put Scottish rather than British/English because born and bred here and Scot’s identity very different to outside of the north lol)

I took my DNA test back in like Jan of this year and there’s this woman I apparently share 7% DNA with but after MONTHS of trying to reach out to her to chat (no luck) and scrolling her social media pages and record searches, I seriously cannot find a single common surname or person that we share. she’s close enough to apparently be my half grand aunt.
Anyone know what this could mean lol? like how does this happen. None of my family recognizes her either. just really weird

For context, my mum is Yemeni and Somali and my dad is Ugandan. I’ve always called myself black but somebody said I wouldn’t be considered black bc of my grandad who is Yemeni. I don’t mind calling myself mixed but am I?

why is Levant in the Jewish group? I had no levant before..where did it come from. Also it's reading the Sephardic DNA weird. The Sephardic used to be higher and then Iberia and Cuba randomly appeared

Just got my updated results (Oct 2026) and I’m trying to make sense of the mix. Does this look typical for someone with Mexican family roots, or does the Canary Islands + Sephardic combo stand out to anyone? Any tips on what to dig into next with paper records or further testing
