Well, I like the Ulster Ireland being found. Quaker and Presbyterian connections. And Albania and Bengal being cleared up. It seems more to the circle area where things should be.

Discussion About the ‘Quebec’ region

I don’t know what they base this on and in my case, it seems nonsensical. The paternal side of my family is from St. Lawrence county in upstate New York; mostly the towns of Fine and Heuvelton. I’ve had the journeys labeled ‘Southwestern Quebec French Settlers’ for quite a while now, and I felt that it made some sense due to the accuracy of the geography. My ancestors lived in that area for generations, after all.

However, none of them are ethnically French Canadian and there is no paper trail to Quebec. All have English surnames and migrated north from Connecticut and Massachusetts. Nearly every record that goes back far enough places my paternal line in England, Scotland, or Ireland.

Makes me wonder what reference panel they used for this region.

I’m wondering if this is accurate at all and if there’s a ton of people who also got this possible match?

I was adopted out of my birth family, but I’ve since reunited with them, stayed in touch and traced a significant part of my ancestry. I’m especially happy to see Quebec represented, as I’ve discovered Quebecois roots on both sides of my birth family. My birth father was French Creole and my birth mother was of mixed Black and white ancestry. She was conceived through an affair and born during a time when interracial marriage was illegal, adding another complex layer to my family’s history. I am so happy to see the expansion of my African origins.

Discussion Update sucks because AI doesn't distinguish correlation and causation because it can't understand context

I am mad that out money was spent on god knows how many tokens from Open AI or Anthropic to get this new update that completely lacks nuance. AI can process data and split it into clusters for sure, what it can't do is understand regional context and realize that people with similar DNA in Quebec cannot be "from Quebec" because almost no one is from Quebec because most people migrated there. That's an obvious example of shitty "reasoning" that I picked up from the sub.

My little tragedy is the erasure of my diverse eastern and nothern european anscestry into "Russian" and "Eastern lowlands" whatever that means. Just incredibly shallow. Russia is not homogeneous at all. There are hundreds of ethnicities. Plus folding Belarus and Ukraine into one is also crazy! That´s like half of eastern Europe.

AI cannot think, it can only imitate thinking. It can process data, but it cannot draw conclusions because it cannot think. Shame on AncestryDNA for trying to cut corners this way. Hire talented people and let them cook. Stop paying to Open AI or Anthropic or whatever to make your processes "more efficient".

Genealogy / FamilyTree family tree, non english names

I have recently started my family tree, and a lot of my family members are from greece, with greek names. A lot of them however don’t pop up with hints or any type of information. I have their names americanized. Should I type it in exactly from the greek alphabet? Or just keep it american, and if that’s the case i’m assuming I just don’t have any information to receive about them?

Question / Help What do my results say about me?

Post image

Just got my updated results (Oct 2026) and I’m trying to make sense of the mix. Does this look typical for someone with Mexican family roots, or does the Canary Islands + Sephardic combo stand out to anyone? Any tips on what to dig into next with paper records or further testing

Question / Help How common are false positive relationships with distant relative matches?

I haven’t really been one to look at my very distant matches, but recently I’ve been doing so to try and track my ancestry better. But I’ve heard there can be a lot of false positives with distant relatives, so is it worthwhile at all to look into?

Question / Help Sideview 2.0

I asked the ai chat bot if the sideview has been released and they said it has been but the problem is most of us don't have it even though we have a paid subscription. Does anyone know why we don't have it yet and if it's just a gradual process?
