Have y'all considered how what we do is not new? Perhaps, it has been recycled many times in history.

I'll give a Google summary so you don't have to

Diogenes and punk

Diogenes of Sinope (c. 412–323 BCE)—the ancient Greek founder of Cynicism—is widely regarded as the historical embodiment of the punk rock ethos, living as a radical anti-establishment figure 2,400 years before punk music existed.

Parallels Between Diogenes and Punk

• Radical DIY and Frugality: Diogenes rejected material wealth, discarded his few possessions (including tossing away his drinking cup after watching a child scoop water with cupped hands), and lived homeless in a large ceramic jar (pithos) in the Athenian marketplace.

• Anti-Authoritarian Defiance: He openly mocked power structures, religious hypocrisy, and intellectual pretension. When Alexander the Great visited him and offered any wish in the world, Diogenes famously told the conqueror to step out of his sunlight.

• Shock Value and Direct Action: He used public stunts—such as carrying a lit lamp in broad daylight claiming he was "looking for an honest man," walking backward into theaters to mock social direction, or disrupting Plato's lectures by eating—to strip away social façades.

• The "Dog" Aesthetic: He modeled his life on stray dogs, embracing shamelessness, living according to raw nature, and refusing to bow to polite society's rules.

That's Google. Clearly other people have talked about this, or Google wouldn't know it.

But, also, Diogenes had followers and posers. Some people claimed to be followers and had lavish estates they went home to. Others lived the lifestyle, but had outside funds to be comfortable.

He said, paraphrasing because I don't speak ancient Greek, "The only place to spit in a rich man's house, is his face"

He traveled with his stick and a small pack.

He masturbated in public. This is controversial. His point, and there was a point, was that what he was doing was no different than the mindless consumers buying and buying to make themselves feel better. Trying to make themselves look like aristocrats.

There are many more parallels, but I'm curious how people in my tribe think of him
