Discussion Fixing Every Among Us Role (Day 2: Scientist)

Links to previous posts:

Day 0: Influencer

Day 1: Engineer

Hey everyone! Welcome back to Part 2 of my series where I post every day about how I would fix or balance every Among Us role. Today, we have the Scientist!

Now, as was pointed out to me on my last post, no role is completely useless, and I agree. Every role has its uses, such as the Scientist being able to confirm who did or didn't kill someone if used correctly. On maps such as the Skeld, where there are no Vitals, it's even more useful.

However, I'm of the opinion that every role should be able to do something that no regular crewmate can do on any map. As it stands now, if you're playing on Polus or the Fungle, any crewmate can walk up to Vitals and do the exact same thing as a Scientist, just without the battery charge.

Being able to access Vitals from anywhere is certainly a great start, but I think the Scientist could use a few buffs, since it's certainly one of the weaker roles, IMO.

With that, let's get started!

  1. The Scientist is now able to see how old bodies are. As soon as someone dies, a timer begins ticking upward next to the dead player's name on Vitals, showing how long ago they died. The battery is obviously consumed like normal while this is occurring, so Scientists can't just stay on Vitals forever.
  2. The Scientist is now able to access Vitals during meetings. Just like the Detective, they're able to provide the crew with information regarding how old a body is. Of course, this does reveal that they're a Scientist. Battery life is not consumed during meetings because, obviously, you can't do tasks to refill it while a meeting is going on.
  3. Once the Scientist has completed all their tasks, they unlock double battery life, and their battery is completely restored after each meeting. I originally was going to make it so they unlocked permanent battery life, but I realized that's kind of boring and would allow them to just sit and watch Vitals. So, I feel this is a good compromise. As it is now, you do unlock permanent access to Vitals with a cooldown, and this is pretty good, so either way could work, IMO.
  4. Edit: Allow Scientists to perform field autopsies. I had another idea for the Scientist that would also give something back to the Impostors. Instead of my first suggestion, where the Scientist can always see how long ago a kill occurred, they could instead perform a field autopsy on a dead body to obtain that information. This way, if an Impostor is caught standing near a body, they can claim they were analyzing it. The analysis would, of course, be interrupted if someone reports the body or calls a meeting. And if we wanted to take it a step further, we could make it so the autopsy also reveals the body's exact location to the entire crew, which would be particularly useful for the Detective, giving the two roles some more synergy.

Well, that's all for the Scientist! Overall, these changes should give the Scientist more opportunities to be useful than they currently have, without making the role completely overpowered. I also think the field autopsy idea would be a nice way to give something back to the Impostors, much like how the Engineer makes seeing someone vent no longer a guaranteed sign that they're an Impostor.

Let me know y'all's thoughts on these changes, and see y'all tomorrow!

I'm so tried of seeing this low effort engagement bait post every damn week

I don't care if my post is breaking rule 7 because that guy is breaking the rule 3 as a weekly routine yet I don't see mods doing anything about it

Rant/Complaint Everyone has to drop off their ego

I'm tired of seeing those posts where OP's say "got my first imposter after 88005553535 crewmate games and my teammates are noobs" or "when i play as a crewmate my crew is extremely dumb.

Solution to this is to drop off your ego.

When you lose as Imp, Imp teammate #1 sees you and Imp teammate #2 as dumbasses. Imp teammate #2 sees you and Imp teammate #1 as dumbasses. You see Imp teammate #1 and Imp teammate #2 as dumbasses. It's because y'all think of yourselves as "masterminds" who know everything about social deduction, while others don't know anything about it

You think the crewmate are dumbasses when you play as a crewmate. You see them smart when you play as a imposter. Nothing changed in the crewmates, nothing. You just are having your ego. Y'all, again, think of yourselves as "masterminds" who know everything about social deduction

Drop off your ego. Everyone in the lobby is equally smart

Discussion Influencer role

I’m sure someone else has had this idea before, but what if to fix the influencer role we:

  1. Make most symbols multiple colors, or colors not in the game. For example, that stupid bowling ball becomes turquoise or beige now.

  2. Add a few more stickers that could mean ambiguous things, like more emoji type stuff, but stickers that can’t still mean something in game.

  3. Color symbols are more ambiguous. I like the judge sticker with cyan and pink because is it pink and cyan? Well then that’s for a very specific situation, but it can also mention it’s one of them, or judge is doing something. Can we have more of those? If we have to have colors from the game, make them multiple colors.

I, personally, don’t think influencer should have been added like this. But the real problem is people are turning it into an easy role. Spamming a colored sticker, when they could be more strategic. I kind of blame the players for how this role turned out.

I think we should all agree to not use colored objects for specific colors only. Like use the purple bowling ball to send a message even when purp is Crewmate. Let’s be creative, let’s figure stuff out.

So either, we have to change, or Innersloth has to fix it. But just my thoughts, what are yours?

Rant/Complaint Open letter to Twitch streamers

If you stream Among Us here are some common things you should avoid to make your games a little exciting to watch/play along.

  1. Stop the in game VCs. Meetings are of course fine. You aren't supposed to communicate once the votes are announced and before the next meeting starts

  2. We don't know who those 14 friends of yours are on the call. Add discord overlays or any method which makes viewers realise which color is speaking/accusing/being voted out

  3. This isn't real life. The point of the game is to have a balanced competitive match which gives both sides a realistic chance to win. Stop with the 40 second cool kill downs and 1 imp/9 crew lobbies.

  4. Stop grouping. I'm tired of listening to y'all deciding who will watch who and how you guys will form teams to coordinate movement during the game.

  5. Lower the discord call volume. If I need to listen to idiots shouting over each other I'd watch the live stream from my national parliament.

  6. No one follows your modded lobbies with 300 roles, covens, mystics, cultists, madmates, flatmates, lunchmates, lovers, frenemies, zoologists, botanists, physicists, geologists, anthropologists etc padded with 67 modifiers each. Millions of people watch the sidemen play among us because it is simple to follow. You may be the experts but most of the average public aren't. This is why your stream is stuck on 10 viewers every day.

Rant/Complaint Just had one of the most annoying rounds

So me, Yellow, and Purple were the imposters right?

On the first round, I didn’t get to kill anybody cause too many people were in groups and my teammates were scattered. So I faked some trash tasks to wait until the perfect opportunity. (If anyone asks, yes I faked the tasks well and I wasn’t being suspicious.)

That’s when the dreaded meeting was called.

So Blue was killed, but for some reason Purple accused Yellow. Like Purple didn’t say anything about seeing Yellow kill, so I was already scared of this being one of those “get my imposter teammate out to look less sus” strategies. Then Yellow for some GOSHDARN reason decided to RAT US ALL OUT! Yellow snitched to the whole crew for no reason and after he got voted out he left. Then the next few meetings both me and purple were voted out in like less than in a minute, THIS IS GENUINE RAGEBAIT!

Like I didn’t even get the chance to snag a kill and I had people laughing at me after the game was over, like if you get caught then don’t drag your partners down with you by accusing them. That just makes their jobs harder, god forbid you just take the loss and just let ur teammates handle the rest but NOOOOOOOOOO! JUST BE A TROLL AND MAKE THE GAME END FASTER THAN IT SHOULD’VE MAKING IT UNFUN.

Discussion Among Us needs to get rid of Influencer

Post image

Not blocking out names because these people were genuinely being very obnoxious.

Influencer got both green and yellow out one round after the other.

I believe influencer is way too overpowered and InnerSloth made a big mistake adding the role without ensuring it couldn’t just take out impostor after impostor.

Let’s head all of your thoughts on Influencer. Should ghosts be able to communicate with crewmates?

Humor imposter faked ss & got 3 kills in 30 seconds

i was in a lobby where someone got caught during a kill but as soon as they saw the other player they danced on the body and the other player waiting for unshift. they then killed the other player, countdown was only 10. then 3 other ppl ran up and watched them dance on both bodies and waited… they killed again. they literally got 3 kills by pretending to be a ss and making them wait out their kill cooldown. absolutely crazy, but hey it works 😭

Discussion Influencers cause unbalance between colours and make some colours better than others.

It is unbalanced for certain colours.

Most stickers are drawings of nature or commonly used items

There are many stickers for red, green, blue, brown, black, white, pink, orange, brown, purple, yellow, gray (the more well-used colours in the nature)

I HAVE NEVER SEEN a sticker that could represent rose, cyan, maroon, lime, nana, tan, coral

WITHOUT making the crews confused(Lime will be confused with green).

This is why after influencers update I only use those 'hard to represent' colours incase I am an imposter

Question Why do experts think selfing is noob?

Post image
• Upvotes

Ever since I've stumbled upon lobbies with rules they always have the "no selfs" rule, and I think this one is very different from the others like "No cams" because most take out a tool for crewmates and lets imps kill more freely, but what's exactly the bad thing about selfing?

I myself consider selfing a very good strategy, since you can lie about the location and counter detective/ frame crewmates etc, along with unconsciously making you more trustful, since selfs aren't that common either. Wherever a body gets reported, I make my sus list but always forget to count self for some reason, maybe because I don't do it (I have a problem with reporting bodies in general) but I don't see it as pathetic.

It has gotten to a point where I recently had to self because I got caught vipering, they voted the dude that saw me first and when it was my turn a level 600+ went "Green how could you?", "I thought you were better than this" I was the host and never mentioned any rules, so it felt as if this person thought selfs were pathetic and wanted others to play as they wanted them to.

Discussion I won in a game, so the host started raging

Post image
70 Upvotes

I joined in a game, the host seemed fine. When we started, I was imp, 2 of my teammates left and it was a 1v8. I won due to convincing a player to vote another crew. The crew who got voted out himself only blamed the player, but the host.... blamed me and threatened to ban me. I managed to play another game, imposter, again. I got voted out due to a wrong move while killing the host, when I was looking at the death chat, the host was like: "ahhahahahhahahahahah" or "get gud"

I really hate people like this, especially if they're hosts, because then they can just ban you or get you in trouble

Fan Content Replacing and creating roles for Among Us #4 | Hunter

Thumbnail
gallery
92 Upvotes

This is an Impostor whose goal is to complete a hunt. They are provided with a list of targets that must be eliminated in a specific order.

TARGET

After their first kill, the Hunter receives a randomized list containing all crewmates, who must be eliminated in a set sequence. The current target becomes their "prey," allowing the Hunter to see that player's role and location at all times. Each time the Hunter eliminates their current target, information about the next target is automatically revealed.

Eliminating the current target reduces the kill cooldown (by an adjustable amount), allowing for consecutive kills and rapid progress through the list. However, if the Hunter kills a crewmate who is not their current target, they lose access to vents and sabotages until they successfully eliminate the correct target. During this state, the list does not advance, and the current target remains unchanged. Once the correct target is eliminated, the Hunter regains all abilities, receives information on the next target, and may continue the hunt.

ABILITY | SHUFFLE

If the Hunter is dissatisfied with the assigned order, they may shuffle the list of targets a limited number of times per match. Obviously, this only reorders the targets who have not yet been eliminated.

SETTINGS

Shuffles per match: 0–3

Kill cooldown reduction: 25% | 50% | 75%

CLARIFICATION

• If another Impostor kills the target, the list simply advances to the next person. Naturally, the Hunter does not receive any bonus for a kill made by a teammate.

CONCEPT AND ORIGIN

I previously envisioned an Impostor role with the same name, whose ability was to steal the roles of their victims; however, that did not fit the "Hunter" theme, so I reworked it into this current concept. I should note that, while it was not my direct inspiration, this concept is quite similar to the "Bounty Hunter" role found in Town of Host. As an interesting side note, what inspired me to create this concept was the "impostor" that appears in the Among Us matchmaking advertisement
