Moderator Post / Announcement Announcing the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 PRO WiFi 8 Quad-Band Gaming Router for Pre-Orders in the US

Post image
0 Upvotes

Although it has been available or up for pre-orders in other regions, the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 PRO is now available to pre-order in the US.

For those interested in the Pre-Order link, here you go:

For those unfamiliar with this router, let's go into the details. Let's first start by talking about WiFi 8.

WiFi 8 - More Speed Through Stability and Efficiency

Most everyone's first reactions to hearing that WiFi 8 and WiFi 7 have the same maximum theoretical speed is, "What? Why bother with WiFi 8?" That's right, if you weren't aware; WiFi 8 doesn't include a boost to max speed beyond 46Gbps.

However, WiFi doesn't provide your devices with the max theoretical speed, generally. WiFi performance from a router to a device depends on a lot of factors, such as the distance from the router, quality of the signal, interference from other devices, internal processing power and heat mitigation, and more. This is why your WiFi might suffer from slow performance in houses or units that have a lot building materials that block signal penetration, if you have multiple devices connected to your router across different bands, or congested channels. These issues aren't new to WiFi.

WiFi 8 is cleaning up those areas to improve performance across the board. Here are some of the ways that you'll see this benefit:

  • Up to 2x faster higher median throughput
  • Up to 2x wider IoT coverage
  • Multi-AP coordination with lower latency
  • Multi-Device boost to provide smarter spectrum in crowds

For a more detailed explanation, this is how WiFi 8 addresses practical problems that users typically encounter across different usage scenarios:

  • Higher sustained speed at mid-to long range - Most people are aware that the further devices move away from the AP, the signal gets weaker and speeds drop. WiFi 8 reduces sudden slowdowns at mid-to-long range, improving the throughput falloff rate and keeping connections more stable.
  • Connectivity for low-powered devices - Most IoT devices transmit at lower power than routers, which can result in weak return signals and frequent disconnections. WiFi 8 strengthens two-way communication, enabling low-power devices to maintain stable links.
  • Coexistence with other networks - In densely populated environments (such as apartment buildings or offices), signals from multiple routers may overlap, causing interference. WiFi 8 introduces smarter spectrum coordination and interference mitigation, keeping speeds stable.
  • Enhanced Multi-User Capacity - When multiple devices connect simultaneously, traditional WiFi often experiences congestion. WiFi 8 enhances spectrum efficiency, dynamic scheduling, throughput, and latency to ensure that bandwidth is used effectively.

ROG Rapture AI Boost - Making gaming easier with every connection

A gaming router seems like a silly thing from the outset. First, it doesn't do any gaming. Second, if you understand a little bit about networking, many of these features look like simple QoS tweaks. Third, and last, you might wonder how easy or cumbersome it is to use and configure these features. However, what makes a router an ROG gaming router is the combination of hardware, software, management, and ease of use to jump right into your online gaming experience.

The ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro handles your traffic in a lot of ways - from the connection point to the destination point:

  • Device Optimization - Automatically detects gaming devices across its LAN, WiFi, and gaming port connections, applying acceleration and optimized latency.
  • Adaptive QoE - Analyzes live network conditions and application demands to dynamically allocate bandwidth, ensuring smooth gameplay even during high-congestion, multi-tasking scenarios.
  • Bundled GTNet Service - Uses real-time latency analysis to route traffic through the fastest - not just the shortest - path to game servers, reducing congestion and helping to maintain low-latency connections.

Port Control Authority - 10G Ports, Multi-WAN, VLAN and 20G Link Aggregation

While the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro features robust software and firmware management for your wireless connections, the router also gives you exceptional speed and configuration options to handle your home network and devices:

  • Dual 10G Ports with a dedicated 10G Gaming Port - Choose to enable an ultra-high-speed 10 Gbps ethernet backhaul and/or setup the 10G LAN port as a dedicated gaming port that prioritizes gaming traffic
  • Four 2.5G LAN Ports - 3x 2.5G LAN ports and 1x 2.5G WAN/LAN ports provide plenty of bandwidth for entertainment, home studios, and ultra-fast ethernet backhaul
  • Multi-WAN with auto-WAN detection - Input support includes a 10G WAN/LAN and a 2.5G WAN/LAN port for flexible configurations
  • VLAN support to organize devices - Simplify your home network management by creating logical groups to more easily apply specific security rules and manage access
  • Up to 20G Link Aggregation - Combine two Ethernet links into one single logical link for a local network with up to 20 Gbps bandwidth

Designed for High Performance and Easy Management

ASUS routers take a holistic approach to the entire design when it comes to the hardware, software, and cooling to ensure that the router performs at its highest level at all times. ROG gaming routers take this to the next level.

Beginning with the hardware, the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro features a 2.6GHz quad-core processor, 2 GB RAM, and 256MB flash memory. This ensures plenty of performance to handle multiple tasks and coordination among the many features and adaptive functions. This is all cooled by a thick aluminum top-plate along with an enhanced nanocarbon layer. The elevated stand design - combined with a specially-engineered vent and heatspreader - helps to achieve up to 35% better heat dissipation for more stable performance under sustained load. As a quad-band router, it uses multiple antennas, including eight external optimized antennas and refined RF tuning to help ensure stable connections across your entire location.

On the software-side, ROG Rapture routers contain a comprehensive configuration menu through the browser-based config or through the ASUS Router App. You can view the Client list for insights to all devices connected to the router, including bandwidth usage and WiFi signal strength to more quickly manage your network. Use the WiFi Insight screen to detect WiFi and non-WiFi interference and automatically optimize channel usage. The same screen keeps a detailed 24-hour event history so you can find when the interference occurred, what triggered it, and how your network responded.

Easily create subnetwork SSIDs with Smart Home Master and Guest Network Pro

Why settle for a single SSID when you can make multiple SSIDs with their own policies, security settings, and performance targets? If you have a variety of IoT devices, kids, gaming devices, VPN service or prefer an SSID with MLO, this router can handle it.

From the outset, it sounds so logical you might wonder why you haven't done this before:

  • Guest Network - Create a scheduled or one-time access network that creates multiple independent networks and VLAN combinations, allowing for full control over access permissions, bandwidth management, and content filtering for each network
  • Gaming Network - Connect your gaming devices like the ROG Ally series or your PC for the best connection quality and gaming experience
  • IoT Network - Create a network for all of your TVs, smart appliances, smart plugs, thermostats, IP cameras, and other common smart home devices. This isolates these devices from the rest of your network to help manage devices that are sometimes difficult to update or may have higher latency than other devices
  • VPN Network - Connect to your preferred VPN service through a dedicated subnetwork with one click.
  • Kid's Network - Configure online time and access without needing to dive into more complicated parental controls. Although you can still configure each device manually through other parental controls, simply connecting to this network automatically applies certain limitations that you set within the SSID configuration menu
  • MLO Network - This is a default network that merges multiple bands to allow compatible devices to switch between bands to prioritize important traffic, so your devices stay fast and responsive even during peak usage

Top-notch AIProtection keeps your router and connected devices safe

As with all ASUS routers, the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro includes a variety of security features to protect all of your connected devices. Our upgraded AiProtection suite continuously safeguards your network and browsing experience with built-in advertisement and tracker blocking, helps to detect and block malicious sites, infected devices, and other potential vulnerabilities. You also have additional parental controls over devices and a on-tap router security assessment to identify vulnerabilities in your security settings to help prevent malicious activity or connection attempts made by infected devices.

Discussion Do you think ASUS would approve an RMA for this? XG27AQWMG

I’ve put around 1,200 hours of use on this monitor, hoping the issue would improve over time or that I’d eventually get used to it, but there’s been no improvement. If anything, it seems to have gotten worse. It’s seriously affecting my immersion in dark movie scenes and games with fog or other dark environments. The most noticeable issue is that the right side of the screen is significantly darker than the rest. Has anyone successfully RMA’d their panel for this issue, or is ASUS likely to dismiss it as being within spec?

Support Asus g15lw sa311 cpu thermal cut problem

• Upvotes

Hello friends, a week ago, I bought the Asus gstrix g18lw sa311 model 5080 video card laptop. For the test, I played Cyberpunk dlaa and road tracking for 20 minutes at the ultra level of all settings. It gave about 20-30 fps in turbo mode, this is normal. However, I also followed the Hwinfo program and the processor temperature saw a maximum of 104 degrees, with an average of 90 degrees, and the thermal part was experienced with 82 percent during this time. The video card temperature is also 87 max and the average is 79. I didn't feel this thermal cut etc. in the game. As soon as I closed the game, the processor temperature dropped to 70. I want to ask, are these values normal for these laptops and intel processors? Or should I return the product? I don't always play at the last settings like this, of course, after all, it's not a desktop, but even when it's under so much load, shouldn't it go above 100 degrees and there shouldn't be such a thermal cut?

I have an Asus tuf a15 FA507NV ryzen 5 7535hs rtx 4060 1tb wd sn770 and micron 512gb ssd Sometimes at random when I turn the computer on from being completely off for around 10 minutes it shows an error code, then goes to repair and then to windows working normal. It doesn't happen every time.

Things I've tried:

\-fresh windows

\-installing window without wd drive in

\-removing decryption

\-installing wd drive to slot 1

\-installing all AMD chipset drivers before connecting to the wifi on fresh install as well as Asus controller v3

\-installing g helper

I don't know how to fix it so it doesn't show anymore I don't really care about sleep mode that much but I want to boot my computer without it having issues. The messages also always change to another message every time, regardless, this is my final error code : Stop code: SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTIONNOT_HANDLED (0x7E). What failed: fvevol.sys

Support Is my laptop brand new?

• Upvotes

Recently bought a expertbook p5 (P5605CAA-PL0049WS) on heavy discount. It was an online purchase from a large ecommerce in our country (flipkart).

Now the seller (svperipherals) has kinda mixed reviews online.

It was an openbox delivery so he unboxed it in front of me, there are zero physical issues. I booted windows, installed it all the way, checked taskmanager. To avoid spoofing at the OS level I booted a fresh live arch iso, and checked smartctl outputs. It says that 2TB was written and read, SMART data via smartctl.

And battery reports on both windows and Linux. Specs look right.

Above the upower the output is from smartctl, and percent used is 0%.

My concern was that on checking warranty status shows it started on 6th June. I bought the laptop on 24th Oct, however.

Yes it does give option to update with invoice but I want to be careful.

Support ASUS BIOS Secure Boot Violation after switching to UEFI – VALORANT VAN 9003 error

Hi everyone, I started getting the VAN 9003 error while playing VALORANT, and the game suddenly kicked me out. When I switch the boot mode to UEFI in my ASUS BIOS, my PC won't boot and displays a "Secure Boot Violation" error. However, the PC boots normally when I set the OS Type to "Other OS." I really don't want to reinstall Windows or format my PC. Has anyone experienced this issue or knows how to fix it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion Why are Asus Driverhub drivers different than the one's on my motherboard webpage?

My PC was completely broken using the drivers on my motherboard web page. Luckily, I found out about driverhub, which gave me all different (working) drivers, including chipset. Is this just pure incompetence? May just be the most annoying thing I've experienced in over 10 years of PC building.

ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 – Rainbow artifacts, brief black screens and multiple game crashes, but FurMark passes

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for advice from anyone who has experienced similar issues with an ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090. I'm trying to figure out whether this could be a GPU hardware issue, a driver/software problem, or something else in my system.

My system

GPU: ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 32 GB GDDR7

CPU: Intel Core i9-14900K

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z790-F Gaming WiFi

RAM: 32 GB DDR5

PSU: Corsair Hx1500i Shift

Case: Corsair AIR 5400

Display: Samsung S90C OLED TV, connected via HDMI

Secondary display: 4K 144 Hz monitor, connected via DisplayPort (currently disconnected for testing)

OS: Windows 11

GPU settings: Stock clocks and default power limit, no GPU overclock or undervolt

Symptoms

1. Rainbow-colored artifacts and brief black screens on the Windows desktop

Even when I'm just using the Windows desktop, I occasionally see very brief rainbow-colored flashes consisting of thin, colored lines or stripes.

Sometimes, these flashes are followed by a black screen lasting approximately two seconds before the picture returns.

This is not limited to gaming. It also happens during normal desktop use.

2. The problem persists with only one display connected

Initially, I had both my Samsung S90C connected via HDMI and my 4K monitor connected via DisplayPort. The secondary monitor was switched off but its DisplayPort cable was still connected.

I then completely disconnected the DisplayPort cable from the GPU and tested with only the Samsung S90C connected via HDMI.

Unfortunately, the rainbow artifacts and brief black screens still occurred.

3. Crimson Desert crashes and has become increasingly difficult to launch

The first time I launched Crimson Desert, I was able to enter the game normally. After approximately three minutes, the game froze and crashed back to the desktop without displaying an error message.

After trying to launch it again, the situation got worse. I can no longer reliably reach the main menu, as the game now crashes during startup or while loading the menu.

4. Blood of Dawnwalker crashes during the opening cinematic

Blood of Dawnwalker behaves slightly differently.

I can reach the main menu, but as soon as I start the game and the opening cinematic begins, it crashes with an Unreal Engine error.

The crash report includes the following entries:

GPU Crash dump triggered

Dawnwalker

kernel32

ntdll

I understand that these entries alone do not necessarily prove a GPU hardware failure, but the crash occurs consistently when the actual game starts.

5. FurMark passes without any visible issues

Interestingly, FurMark ran for approximately 10 minutes without crashing or showing any obvious errors.

The GPU was running at stock settings, with the default power limit.

This is confusing because the games are either crashing or failing to start, while FurMark appears to run normally.

What I have observed so far

Rainbow-colored lines/flashes occur on the Windows desktop and in games.

Some flashes are followed by a black screen lasting approximately two seconds.

The issue persists with only the Samsung S90C connected via HDMI.

Crimson Desert initially ran for a few minutes before crashing, but now often fails during startup.

Blood of Dawnwalker reaches the main menu but crashes when the opening cinematic starts.

FurMark runs for 10 minutes without any obvious problems.

The GPU is running at stock clocks and the default power limit.

My questions

Has anyone experienced similar rainbow-colored artifacts or brief black screens with an RTX 5090, particularly an ASUS ROG Astral?

Can a GPU have a hardware or VRAM-related problem that does not show up in FurMark but causes crashes in specific games?

Could this be related to the NVIDIA driver, DirectX 12, shader compilation, VRR/G-SYNC, or HDMI signal stability?

What would be the best way to distinguish a GPU hardware issue from a CPU, RAM, motherboard, or driver problem?

Would you recommend any specific diagnostic tests before contacting ASUS for an RMA?

I'm considering requesting an RMA from ASUS because the combination of display artifacts, brief black screens, and crashes in multiple games is concerning.

One additional complication is that I bought the GPU second-hand through a private seller on Willhaben. Unfortunately, the seller has not provided the original invoice or the original packaging, and a separate document confirming the transfer of the card has not yet been signed. I still have the Willhaben message history documenting the purchase.

Any suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I had the rxt 4090 bevore and there arent any Problems, i also did a clean install for Windows to make sure everthing is fresh and didnt conflict with the old stuff!

About the rainbowflickering on desktop heres a video at about min 0:50 - until the end you see it!
