AITH for banning my mother in law from our home after I found out she has been secretly inviting my husband’s ex to family events

1.1k Upvotes

I am a thirty year old marketing manager, and I have been married to my husband for two years. We have a four month old baby girl, and until recently I thought my relationship with my mother in law was fine, even if she was a bit controlling. She always said she wanted us to be one big happy family, and I believed her. Three weeks ago my husband’s cousin let something slip at a barbecue. She said she was happy to see the “old gang” back together at the last family dinner, and when I asked what she meant, she went pale and said I should ask my mother in law. I did not want to cause a scene, so I quietly went through the family group photos, and there she was in three different pictures from the last six months. She was my husband’s ex girlfriend, the one he was with for four years before me, standing right next to my mother in law, smiling, with her arm around her. I was not invited to any of those dinners, because each time I was told it was just a small gathering and the baby needed rest. When I showed my husband the photos he looked sick, and he told me honestly that he had no idea. He had been told the dinners were only for the older relatives, and he had skipped most of them because of work. I confronted my mother in law calmly on the phone, and instead of apologising she said the ex was “like a daughter” to her, that she had never liked how fast we got married, and that she had only been keeping the door open in case things did not work out between us. I told her that was disrespectful to me, to my husband and to our daughter, and that she was no longer welcome in our home until she apologised properly and stopped contacting the ex about family matters. She cried, called me dramatic and insecure, and said I was keeping her granddaughter away from her over some photos. Now my husband’s aunts and two of his cousins are messaging me saying I am tearing the family apart, and one of them said I should be grateful my mother in law helps with the baby at all. Yesterday my mother in law sent a message saying she is coming to our house on Sunday with the whole family and that we will “settle this properly once and for all”, and she has also hinted that she knows something about me that my husband should hear. I honestly have no idea what she means, but my husband says he is standing with me and that he will not open the door. So am I the hero here for protecting my marriage and my daughter, or am I the asshole for cutting off my mother in law over a few photos? What do you think, am I the hero or the AITH? I will post an update next week if people want to know what happens.

AITAH for telling my wife the reason our son doesn't tell her anything is because all she does is complain/be judgey?

Hello everyone long time lurker first time poster on a throwaway.

I (39M) and my (38F) wife have a son who I'll refer to as Austin(17M). My son is a great kid. He is a straight A student (all AP classes), works part time and does all his chores around the house and sometimes extras and rarely complains. Austin is really into MMOs and spends a lot of his free time playing them with his friends. I don't mind this as like I stated above he does everything he's supposed to do and then some.

My wife on the other hand is very nit picky with him. She doesn't understand why he wants to play videos games instrad of hanging out with girls or go to the movies, mall, etc. Austin has told her before he's just not interested in all of that and he has time before he goes to college and maybe dates a girl. She doesn't get it and always tells me in private that she hopes he's not gay. (For the record we are a very progressive household) she says this cause he is our only child and she wants grandkids.(even though gay couples can adopt and I've told her this many times) She's always hounding him over this and even offered to introduce him to some daughters for her friends/coworkers. I can tell this bothers him.

A couple days ago my son came to me and told me he needed to tell me something. He said he isnt gay but he doesnt have feelings for girls or boys. That he is Asexual/Aromantic. I told him I didnt care cause hes my son and all I want is for him to be happy and comfortable. He told me he wanted me to tell his mom this cause he doesn't wanna deal with her and what she could possibly say. I said okay I will

Fast forward today. My son was at work and I told my wife. Needless to say she exploded. Saying he's just confused. How does he know if he never dated a girl. And that she was gonna talk to him and how she's hurt he didn't tell her.

I told her point blank: this is why. This is why he doesn't tell you anything. Every single thing is about you and what makes you happy. You've been on his ass for years about the lack of partner and never once thought for a second about him. That the reason he doesn't talk to her is cause all she does is complain and be judgmental. She doesn't want to understand him. She wants to control him in that way. I told her to leave him alone and if I find out she tries to "convince" him he just hasn't given love a chance I'm gonna be really upset with her.

She got angry and called me an asshole and said I coddle him and now we will never have grandkids. She hasn't talked much to my son since he's been home and giving me the cold shoulder. AITAH? I just want to support my son. I don't care what his sexuality is or lack there of. I just want him to be happy.

Edit: I know this is a very long post but my son TOLD me to tell her. I did NOT go behind his back.

AITA for refusing to drive my little brother to practice after they moved it to my work days?

I’m 19 and still live at home with my parents and my 14-year-old brother. I have my own car and work four evenings a week at a coffee shop, usually until 10. Back when his soccer practices were on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I offered to drive him those days because I was off and it lined up. Nobody asked me to. I just said I could do it.

Last week the coach moved practice to Wednesdays and Fridays. My parents told me about it after the fact and said I should just keep driving him. I said those are my work days now and I need the car to get to my shift. They said I’m basically free in the evenings anyway and that it’s not a big deal. I told them I’m not free, I have a job, and I can’t just switch my days around because the schedule changed.

My mom said I’m being selfish and that I used to be happy to help. My dad said if I’m living here I should still contribute, and driving him is the least I can do. I pointed out that I offered when I actually had the time, and that nobody cleared the new days with me. They acted like I was backing out of something we all agreed on.

I’m still driving him the old days when I can, but I’m not rearranging my work schedule or giving up my car on nights I have a shift. They’re still bringing it up and saying I don’t want to help the family anymore. AITA for saying no to the new days?

AITH for refusing to give my late mother’s gold bangles to my sister for her wedding?

My mother passed away two years ago after a long battle with illness. Before she passed, she gave me a set of four traditional gold bangles that had belonged to our grandmother. She explicitly told me, in front of my father, that these were for me to keep, as she had already gifted my elder sister her main jewelry set during her engagement years prior.

Fast forward to two months ago: my sister is preparing for her wedding ceremony. While discussing expenses and jewelry with my father and her fiancé’s family, she realized she wanted more traditional pieces to match her bridal outfit. She came to my room and asked if she could borrow our mother's bangles for the main event.

Because of the high emotional value of the bangles, I was hesitant. I agreed to let her wear them for the wedding day only, on the condition that she would return them immediately the next morning. She agreed.

However, three days before the wedding, I overheard my sister talking to her mother-in-law on the phone, saying that I gave her mum's bangles as a gift for the wedding, so they are part of her permanent jewelry now.

I was shocked. When I confronted her privately later that evening, she got defensive. She said that as the elder daughter, she had a greater right to our mother's legacy, and that since I am currently single and not planning to marry anytime soon, leaving such valuable items with me is a waste. She refused to promise that she would return them after the event.

Seeing that she had no intention of returning them, I took the bangles and locked them in a private bank locker the next morning.

When my sister found out the bangles were no longer in the house, she exploded. She called me selfish, cold-hearted, and accused me of trying to ruin her special day out of jealousy. My father is also upset with me; he says that even if my sister was wrong to claim them permanently, I should have just let her wear them for the day to keep the peace and prevent drama in front of her new in-laws. Now, half of the family is calling me bitter and heartless for creating tension right before her big day.

I miss my mother terribly, and holding onto those bangles is one of the few physical connections I have left to her memory. But the guilt and family backlash are making me second-guess myself.

AITA for putting my late mother's bangles in a bank locker and refusing to let my sister wear them after finding out she intended to keep them?

AITA for telling my boss that my coworker’s “small favor” has become part of my daily workload?

I (27M) work in a marketing agency. Our team is 5 people - me, Arthur (31M), George (35M) our boss, Henry (28M) and James (29M). Jack (27M) is also in our team, hybrid.

About 3 months ago Arthur asked me for a "small favor". He said he had a family emergency and asked if I could handle his client reporting for 2-3 days. I said yes, because we are a team.

But after that he never took it back. That small favor became my daily work. Every day I have to do my own work PLUS Arthur's client reporting which takes like 1-2 hours. I told Arthur 2-3 times "hey can you take back your reporting now" and he would say "yeah yeah tomorrow" but never did.

Henry and James noticed it too. Henry even said "dude why are you doing Arthur's reporting daily, that's his job".

Last week in our 1-on-1 with George, George asked me why my own tasks are getting delayed. I was honest. I said "Because for the last 3 months I've been doing Arthur's client reporting every day, which was supposed to be a 2 day favor. It's taking 1-2 hours daily and it's affecting my own deadlines."

George was surprised. He didn't know. He then talked to Arthur and told him to take his reporting back.

Now Arthur is furious at me. He told Henry, James and Jack that I snitched on him to George and that I should have talked to him again instead of telling the boss. He said I threw him under the bus and I'm not a team player.

Jack thinks I should have given Arthur one more warning before telling George. Henry says I did the right thing because Arthur was using me.

I feel like I did talk to Arthur multiple times and he ignored me. That small favor became my second job. Why should my own work suffer?

AITA for telling my boss?

AITAH for refusing to cover my coworker’s shifts after she ignored my emergency request last month?

I’m 26F, my coworker Lisa is 30F. We work retail and usually cover each other’s shifts when someone has an emergency. We had an unspoken agreement to help each other out.

Last month, my grandma suddenly fell and was sent to hospital. I texted Lisa three days in advance, begging her to take my Saturday shift so I could visit my family. She replied she had plans and refused. I had no choice but to skip the hospital trip and work that day. I was really upset, but I didn’t argue with her.

Now Lisa needs me to cover her Sunday shift. Her friend got concert tickets she bought months ago. She messaged me, saying it’s a once-in-a-lifetime show and I should help her. I told her I couldn’t do it. I explained that when I had a family emergency, she turned me down. I don’t feel obligated to help her for a non-urgent event.

Lisa got mad. She said I was petty and holding a grudge. She told our team I was being uncooperative. A few coworkers said I should help keep the team friendly.

I feel conflicted. I know team harmony matters, and covering shifts is normal. But it stings that she wouldn’t help me during a real family emergency, yet expects me to drop my plans for a concert. AITAH?

AITA for refusing to pay my driver for a trip he never completed?

I hired a driver six months ago to take me to work and occasionally run errands when I was busy. We agreed on a fixed monthly salary, and I have always paid him on time, including when I took leave and did not need him every day. Last Friday, I asked him to pick up an important document from my office and deliver it to my lawyer before 4 PM. He agreed, but later called to say he had gone home because he assumed I would not need him anymore that afternoon. The document was still at my office, and I had to leave an important meeting early to collect it myself. When I confronted him, he admitted he had made the wrong assumption but insisted I should pay him extra for the time he had already spent driving to work that morning. I told him his monthly salary covered his working hours and that he had agreed to the delivery, so I would not pay an additional amount for a task he had abandoned without informing me. He then said he would not do any more errands unless I paid him extra for each one, even though occasional errands were part of our original agreement. I explained that if he wanted to renegotiate his duties, we could discuss it properly, but he could not change the agreement after missing an important task. He has now told another employee that I treat him unfairly, and my family says I should just pay him to avoid a bigger problem. I have not deducted anything from his salary, and I am willing to discuss his workload, but I do not think I should pay an extra fee for work he agreed to do and then chose not to complete. AITA? I am wondering whether I should give him another chance or start looking for a replacement.

AITH for telling my neighbor to stop secretly replacing my dying plants while I was away?

I (29F) live in an apartment building, and my neighbor Mrs. Alvarez (60s) has watered my plants whenever I travel for work. I never asked her to do more than that. She is very kind, and we have always been on good terms. Last week I came back from a two-week trip and noticed that my plants looked healthier than when I left. I thought nothing of it until I saw that my fiddle leaf fig, which I had been trying to save for almost two years, was gone. In its place was a brand new one in a nicer pot. My old pothos and my herb pots had also been swapped for new ones. When I asked her about it, she told me, very proudly, that some of them “were not doing well” so she replaced them to surprise me. She said she has done this a few times before and I never noticed. I was upset. That fiddle leaf fig was a gift from my late grandmother’s garden. It was ugly and half-dead, but it was important to me. I told her, politely but firmly, that I did not want anyone replacing my plants and that I would rather have a dying plant that is mine than a perfect one that is not. She became very quiet and said she was only trying to help. Since then, she has not said hello to me in the hallway, and another neighbor told me she was “hurt” by how I reacted. I understand she meant well, and she spent her own money on these plants. But she also decided something was hers to change without asking me. I have not been rude to her, but I have also not apologized. So, AITH?

AITA for refusing to replace the office supplies my coworker wasted?

I work in a small office where everyone shares basic supplies such as printer paper, sticky notes and ink cartridges. We have a simple system: if someone uses the last of something, they let the office administrator know so it can be replaced. It usually works well, and we've never had any serious issues with it.

A few weeks ago, a coworker named Sophie was preparing materials for a presentation. She printed several versions of the same document, made mistakes in the formatting and printed everything again. By the end of the afternoon, she'd used nearly an entire pack of paper. I didn't think much of it at first because mistakes happen, but I later discovered that she'd also used a large number of colour pages for drafts that could easily have been printed in black and white.

The next morning, our manager reminded everyone to be mindful of printing costs because the department was working with a limited budget. Sophie complained to me privately that the reminder was unfair because she'd only been trying to make her presentation look professional.

Later that week, I noticed we had run out of paper before I needed to print an important report. I contacted the office administrator, who explained that the next supply delivery wasn't due for several days. I mentioned that we'd used a lot of paper recently, and Sophie overheard me.

She accused me of blaming her for the shortage. I told her I wasn't trying to get her into trouble, but her repeated printing had contributed to the problem. She said the presentation was important for the whole team and that I should be willing to share responsibility for the supplies.

A few days later, Sophie suggested that I buy a pack of paper myself and bring it into the office. She said it would solve the immediate problem and that the company could reimburse me eventually. I declined because purchasing office supplies wasn't my responsibility, and I didn't want to spend my own money without approval.

She became annoyed and said I was making a small inconvenience into a personal issue. I explained that I was happy to help find a solution, but I wasn't going to pay out of pocket because someone had used more supplies than necessary. I contacted the administrator again, and they arranged a temporary supply from another department.

Sophie has since told a couple of colleagues that I could have helped everyone by simply buying the paper. One colleague agrees that I shouldn't have to pay, while another thinks I was being unnecessarily rigid over a relatively inexpensive item.

I don't mind sharing office resources, and I understand that mistakes happen. However, I don't think employees should be expected to personally replace workplace supplies whenever the office runs short. I followed the proper procedure and helped arrange an alternative without spending my own money.

AITA?

AITH for telling my best friend I won’t be in her wedding party because she wants us all to wear matching wigs?

I (30F) have been best friends with Dana (30F) since we were eleven. She’s getting married in October and I am one of her six bridesmaids. Dana has a very specific vision. Her wedding theme is 1920s Hollywood glam and she has decided that all bridesmaids must wear the same short platinum blonde wig during the ceremony and photos. She already ordered them and sent a group chat photo, along with a rule that no one can wear their natural hair underneath, because she wants a perfectly uniform look. I have thick, curly hair that I’ve worked hard to love and take care of. I also have a sensitive scalp and the last time I wore a cheap costume wig for a Halloween party, I broke out in a rash. I told Dana this and offered to wear a hair accessory in the same style or have my hair professionally set in vintage waves instead. She said, It’s all or nothing. If you can’t commit to the look, maybe you should not be in the wedding party. I was hurt, so I replied that I’d step down as a bridesmaid but still attend as a guest and support her. Now two of the other bridesmaids are messaging me saying I am being dramatic and making Dana’s day about me. Dana has stopped replying and her mom texted me that I am throwing away a twenty year friendship over a wig. I really do love Dana, but I feel like my comfort and my health were dismissed. Was I wrong to step down? So, AITH?

AITA for telling my mom she can't post my graduation photos because she cropped out my partner?

I'm 24F just graduated college. My mom (52F) took a bunch of photos at the ceremony. She posted a few on Facebook. In one of them, my partner of 3 years was standing next to me. She cropped him out completely. I asked her why and she said it's your day I wanted it to be about you.

I said that felt disrespectful to my partner, who came to support me. She said I'm overreacting and that she just wanted nice photos of me. I told her she can't post any more graduation photos unless she posts them unedited. She got upset and said I'm being controlling.

Now my dad says I hurt her feelings and should just let her post what she wants.

AITA for refusing to give my sister my late mom’s necklace after she sold the gift I bought her?

I’m 28F, my sister is 31F. Our mom passed away last winter, and she left me her silver necklace. It was not expensive, but it was the only piece of jewelry Mom wore daily, so it means the whole world to me.

Last year for my sister’s birthday, I saved up for two months and bought her a handmade leather purse she had been eyeing for ages. She thanked me at the party, but three weeks later I found out she sold it online for quick cash. When I confronted her, she said she needed money for dinner with her boyfriend and the purse “wasn’t useful anyway”. I was hurt, but I didn’t fight for long.

Now she’s asking for Mom’s necklace. She said she wants it to “keep Mom close”. I told her no. I explained I saw how easily she sold the expensive gift I worked hard to buy her, and I don’t trust she would cherish Mom’s necklace.

She blew up. She said I’m cruel and greedy, that Mom would want us to share keepsakes. She told our relatives I’m keeping all Mom’s things to punish her. Multiple family members texted me saying I should give it to her to keep peace.

I feel guilty. I hate fighting with my sister, and I know grief makes people messy. But I can’t stop thinking about my purse being sold without a second thought. If she would sell a gift I saved for, how can I be sure she won’t sell Mom’s necklace later? AITA?

AITA for asking my friends to stop posting everything about me on social media

My friends love posting pictures and videos whenever we hang out and usually I dont mind being in a few photos

But lately one of them has started posting embarrassing videos of me without asking, including moments when I look tired or say something stupid. I asked her to check with me before posting but she laughed and said its just social media and nobody cares that much

Last weekend she posted another video even after I reminded her. I got annoyed and told her to take it down, but now our group says Im being too sensitive and making normal fun awkward

I dont want to control what anyone posts on their own account but I also dont think I should have to accept every picture or video of myself being shared online

AITA for asking them to stop posting me without permission?

AITH for telling my flatmate to pay his share of the bills after he refused for three months

I am a twenty eight year old nurse and I share a three bedroom flat with two other people, one is a man who works remotely for a software company and the other is a girl who is studying at the university, and the three of us agreed when we moved in that we would split the gas electricity internet and council tax evenly each month through a shared spreadsheet and everything went fine until about five months ago when the guy started working from home every single day with the heating on full blast all day long and running three monitors and a gaming computer and when the bills came in they were nearly double what they were before and I sent a polite message in our group chat asking everyone to pay their share and the girl paid straight away but the guy said he would do it at the end of the month and then the end of the month came and went and he said he was waiting for his salary and then he said the bills were too high and it was unfair that he should pay the same as us when we are barely home and that made no sense because I work twelve hour night shifts and the girl is in lectures most days so he is the one using almost everything and I told him that if he felt it was unfair we could sit down and work out a new split based on usage and I even offered to take the lead on checking the meter readings but he said no he would just pay when he felt like it and by the third month he owed over four hundred pounds in total and the other flatmate and I had been covering his part so the supplier would not cut us off and last week I finally sat him down in the kitchen and calmly told him that he had until Friday to pay everything he owed or I would let the landlord know since all three of our names are on the contract and he got very angry and called me petty and said I was ruining the friendly atmosphere in the flat over a bit of money and that people like him do not make such a big deal about this sort of thing and I told him that it was not about where anyone is from it was about being an adult who pays what he owes and he stormed off to his room and now the girl says I was right but he has told some of our mutual friends that I am being cold and controlling and some of them are messaging me saying I should have been softer about it so am I the hero here for demanding he pay what he owes or am I the asshole for making things tense in the flat over money, so what do you think, am I the hero or the AITH?

AITA for refusing to train my replacement during my annual leave?

I work as an administrator at a small medical practice, and I've been there for nearly four years. My job involves managing appointments, updating patient records, dealing with suppliers and handling a lot of the paperwork that keeps the practice running smoothly. It's busy, but I've always taken pride in being reliable. A few months ago, I accepted a new job with better hours and more opportunities to progress. I gave my employer plenty of notice, documented my regular tasks and offered to help train whoever took over my position. My manager thanked me and said we'd arrange everything before my final day. The problem started when the practice hired my replacement later than expected. By then, I had already booked a week of annual leave that had been approved months earlier. I was planning to visit relatives I hadn't seen in a long time, and the travel arrangements were already paid for. Three days before my leave was due to start, my manager told me that my replacement wouldn't be ready to work independently and asked me to postpone my holiday. I explained that I couldn't easily change the arrangements at such short notice. I offered to spend my remaining working days going through the main procedures with my replacement and prepare a written guide for anything we couldn't cover. My manager agreed initially, but the next day she asked me to spend two days of my annual leave training the new employee remotely. She said I could simply answer questions over the phone and check any complicated paperwork. I politely declined, explaining that my leave had already been approved and I wouldn't be available for work during that time. She reminded me that the practice was short-staffed and that patients could be affected if my replacement struggled. I understood the concern, but I pointed out that I had given notice, offered training and prepared documentation. The recruitment delay wasn't something I had caused, and I didn't think I should lose my holiday because the handover hadn't been organised in time. My replacement later contacted me directly and asked if I could explain a few procedures before I left. I answered her questions during working hours and sent her the guide I'd prepared. I also told her where to find the relevant internal documents, following the practice's confidentiality procedures. My manager was unhappy when she learned I wouldn't be answering calls during my leave. She said I was leaving the team in a difficult position and suggested that someone who cared about their colleagues would make a small sacrifice. I told her I had already done what I reasonably could and that my annual leave was important to me too. A colleague thinks I should have helped because the practice provides an important service, while another says management should have arranged the handover earlier. I don't want my replacement to struggle, and I have no issue helping her while I'm still employed. I just don't want my approved holiday treated as extra working time whenever the business has a problem. AITA?

AITA for refusing to pay for my friends birthday dinner

My friend invited a group of us to a restaurant for her birthday and I was happy to go because we dont get together that often

When the bill arrived, everyone started splitting it equally even though my friend had ordered several expensive dishes and drinks that most of us didnt have. I asked if we could just pay for what we ordered, but one of my friends said we should all cover her meal since it was her birthday

I didnt agree because I had already spent money on a gift and wasnt expecting to pay extra for everyone else's food too

My friend noticed the disagreement and said I was ruining her birthday over money. The others paid their share and now some of them are saying I embarrassed her in front of everyone

I didnt want to make things awkward but I also dont think I should have to pay for food I didnt order

AITA for refusing to split the bill equally?

AITH for telling my best friend I will not be her maid of honour after she demanded I pay for everything and then criticised my dress choice

I am a twenty nine year old accountant and I have been best friends with a girl since we were eleven years old and when she got engaged last spring she asked me to be her maid of honour and I was so happy that I cried and said yes straight away and I started helping her right from the beginning by going to dress fittings with her and booking the venue tours and making a shared planning folder with every detail so that nothing would be missed and then about four months in she sent me a message saying that the maids would be expected to pay for their own dresses and shoes and hair and makeup and also split the cost of a weekend away for the hen party which she had chosen in a very expensive seaside town and when I added it all up it came to nearly nine hundred pounds for me alone and I am not on a big salary because I just moved into my own flat and I am still paying off my student loan so I told her honestly that I would love to be part of it but I needed to keep the cost lower and asked if we could pick a cheaper hen party location or if I could skip some of the extras and she said no because it was her special day and everyone else had agreed and that if I truly loved her I would find the money and I said I would try and I picked a simple dress from the list she approved and paid for it out of my savings and then when I sent her a photo of me wearing it she said it looked cheap and that I should have chosen the more expensive one from the second list and that I was making her bridal party look bad and I felt so hurt that I told her I was sorry but I could no longer be her maid of honour because I felt like all she cared about was how things looked and not about how I felt and that I would still come to the wedding as a guest and support her and she called me selfish and jealous and said I had ruined her wedding before it had even happened and now two of the other bridesmaids have messaged me saying I abandoned her when she needed me most and that I should have just put it on a credit card like everyone else did and my own mum thinks I could have handled it better but I feel like I was pushed too far so am I the hero here for stepping back and protecting my money and my feelings or am I the asshole for walking away from my best friend before her big day, so what do you think, am I the hero or the AITH?

AITAH for not forgiving my aunt for abusing us back in our childhood days (im now 25)

we have two houses in different cities. i have an upcoming work that requires me to be in that area for easier commute. the problem is: MY AUNT, HER DAUGHTER, AND HER PARTNER are living in that house. why you may ask? because their own house is occupied by a drug using good for nothing person.

and so, i told my mother that i dont want to live in that house and i even asked her how soon can we get rid of them. mind you, this is a sensitive topic to my father, because that AUNT of mine is his sister. to him it's let bygones be bygones. that woman has verbally abused me and my brother from the very beginning. always talking shit about us to our neighbors, humiliating us in front of other kids, shouting and cussing at us, even going as far as to verbally abusing my own mother.

so no. i cant let bygones be bygones. i hate her then and i still hate her now. AITAH? might be.

But I seriously don’t understand and fail to clarify understand the following statement:

“I need to accept the following”

  1. Society is based upon ruining everyone except a few “selected” or “chosen” individuals.

  2. No matter “how much i do” or “how much i say” no one is going to actually believe it is possible to really fix the problems i see taking place.

  3. Each political party system can and will ruin individuals “while believing that party system is helping them and blaming the counter party as the reason why..”

I am sorry.

Perhaps the fact I WAS DENIED RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FACILITY 3 times by the military active duty healthcare system has “also” caught me under a depression increased mindset.

Or perhaps my own mother…

Is believing that communism and socialism is bad but capitalism is good.

Yet she fails to see that her own religious beliefs highlight communism and socialism viewpoints.

“I need to accept this”

As my dad keeps going in between senior rehabilitation centers and being mistreated by the residential staff by two different locations in Florida.

But “maintaining” beliefs capitalism is good and communism/socialism is bad in the same breath.

This makes me increase my levels of anxiety and depression as I bring mild symptoms of high functioning autism spectrum disorder see the patterns of society and failure to clearly understand how to have her understand how this capitalist mindset has failed her own husband and herself and her two daughters one of whom underwent a separation from their spouse related to financial difficulties.

But “I am told” just be happy.

Trust in a “god or whatever” who is supposed to “be listening if you repent..”

As if this will change the outcome of how capitalism works and is ruining everything it touches in the MIDAS TOUCH mindset.

I absolutely refuse to believe such things.

And have resorted to profuse levels of profanity towards my own mother and siblings asking to be painted a different picture how “capitalism” has helped and not harmed them.

Which of course (has not) happened.

As I keep painting and painting from comment after comment about how capitalism has and would have evicted and left their own daughters homeless if it was not for their own personal socialism and communism activities to support their own full grown adult daughters.

Should I “just accept”?

And if so why?

If you say for “my own emotional sanity and health” I would prefer 6-9 feet under as I see my own children having to suffer from capitalism when they become adults themselves.

Legitimate concerns and questions.

If you actually read all of this please let me know.

Because honestly.

My last discussion “via texts” with my sister said she would file a restraining order, have someone do a health and wellness check, and see if I need to be admitted. And block my contact information etc.

I’m all for being “admitted” but if insurance for active duty says “no”

Does that not already “imply” the whole problem that has already increased my mental health issues?

Because capitalism…

“AMERICA YEA!”

Why does it matter?

So I can “retire” watching everyone around me suffer and wither financially under capitalism harm?

AITA for refusing to let my friend submit my photographs for a competition?

Photography has been a hobby of mine for years, and I recently entered a local photography competition for amateur photographers. The theme was everyday life, and I submitted three photographs I'd taken during walks around my town. I wasn't expecting to win anything, but I was excited to have my work considered. A close friend of mine, Emily, knew about the competition because I'd shown her the photographs before submitting them. She complimented them and said I had a good eye for capturing small details. A week later, she told me she'd decided to enter the same competition and asked if she could use one of my photographs because she hadn't managed to take any pictures she liked. I assumed she was joking, so I laughed and told her the photographs were mine and had already been submitted under my name. She replied that the competition was only for fun and that she could explain she'd helped me choose the subject. I told her that wasn't the same as taking the photograph herself, and I wasn't comfortable with her entering my work as her own. Emily said she wasn't trying to steal anything and that she would credit me if she won. I explained that the competition rules required each entry to be the entrant's own original work, so giving me credit afterwards wouldn't solve the problem. I suggested she take some photographs over the weekend instead, since there was still time before the deadline. She became annoyed and said I was acting as if photography were my career. I reminded her that I had spent time planning and taking the pictures, and that I wanted the chance to have my own work judged fairly. She accused me of being competitive with her and said friends should support each other. A few days later, I discovered she'd uploaded one of my photographs to the competition website as a draft entry. She'd downloaded it from a picture I'd sent her in our private chat. I contacted her immediately and asked her to remove it. She argued that she hadn't officially submitted it yet, so I was making a fuss over nothing. I told her that using my photograph after I'd clearly refused permission was not acceptable. I also contacted the organisers to explain that the image was mine and that I hadn't authorised anyone else to enter it. They confirmed that the draft would not be accepted under her name. Emily was furious and said I'd embarrassed her over a harmless misunderstanding. She has since told our mutual friends that I cared more about winning a small competition than helping her enjoy a hobby. One friend thinks I should have let her use the photograph because neither of us was likely to win, while another says the rules exist for a reason. I don't think the size of the prize matters. I was happy to encourage Emily to enter, offer photography tips and even go out with her to take pictures. I simply wasn't willing to let her submit my work as her own, especially after I'd already said no.

AITA?

AITH for trying to save my friendship with a guy whose insecure girlfriend made him block me?

I (F17) met this guy Leo (M17) like last year and we became pretty close. We texted non stop and i was friends with his guy friends and stuff. As we were at our peak level of closeness, he started dating Maya (F17). They’ve known each other since they were really really young, which she always used to bring up even tho idc.

From day one, Maya was so threatened by me and obviously hated me. I didn't want to cause drama, so I just ranted to a few mutual friends at school about how she was ruining our friendship and how idk why she hates me so much. Somehow, Leo found out and removed me on everything 4 months ago. I know for a fact Maya she got into his head and probably forced him to do it because Leo would never do that to me.

I told all of my friends about it of-course because I was hurt that Leo would remove me and I was so angry at Maya cos it was all her fault, if they never got together it would’ve been fine. I just know she hates me and probably talks about me so I talk about her with all my friends too. She’s so weird? She’s in my classes this year and it just annoys me even seeing her face cos she’s so smug and she thinks she’s so much better than us.

My friend group, there’s 8 of us, are all on my side. But one of them lately, has started telling me that *I'm* the one being a bully I should stop bringing it up so much cos it was ages ago, and that Leo unadded me because of my own actions. I feel like I'm going insane. AITAH for just wanting people to know i’m not a crazy person i’m just standing up to a girl who obviously hates me??

AITA for refusing to share my location with my friends all the time

My friends have gotten into the habit of sharing their live locations with each other and they expect everyone in our group to do the same

I was fine with it at first but lately they keep asking why my location is turned off whenever I go somewhere. One friend even joked that I must be hiding something because I dont want everyone knowing where I am

I told them I just like having some privacy and dont feel the need to be tracked all day. They said its normal between close friends and that Im making it seem suspicious for no reason

I have nothing to hide but I dont think friendship means we need to know each other's every move

Now the group chat feels awkward because I refused to turn mine back on

AITA for keeping my live location private even though all my friends share theirs?

AITA for refusing to keep investing money in my friends failing business

A friend of mine started a small business last year and I supported him by buying his products and recommending him to other people

A few months ago he told me he was struggling with losses and asked if I could lend him some money to help keep things running. I agreed because I wanted to see him succeed

Now most of that money is gone and the business is still losing money. He recently asked me for another loan and said this time things would be different

I told him I care about him but I cant keep putting my money into something that isnt working. He got upset and said real friends support each other during hard times

Now I feel bad because I know hes stressed but Im also worried about losing even more money

AITA for refusing to help him financially again?

AITAH for not participating in entertaining the house owner like my flatmates?

So we live in a 4bhk, all girls, the house owner lives in Australia and has come to bangalore. He visited our house (which he owns) and there is contractor with him, they have come to initiate construction work for the kitchen sink because it MILDLY leaking. I mean it's still usable and that too very comfortably. There's just some leaking here and there occasionally. So for that, it will be a 10 days work and the kitchen activities will be completely hampered. We are all working and no one has time to cook even one meal. We could have EASILY deferred this because uncle (house owner) did not know about this.

But, here we are. Ready to sacrifice 10 days without food happily. On the top of that what I don't understand is. These 2 girls are keeping the unc entertained like their life depends on it. All the work regarding initiation and permission regarding the kitchen work is over, and still the uncle is in the house with the contractor and these girls have ordered food for the, COOKED rotis for them (i mean what?! They don't even make it for themselves!!) And are serving them food. Bruh. I cannot. They called me outside and I said NO i am too awkward for this.

But in reality i don't accept any of this. I can't directly say no to the kitchen work because they are in majority.

I just can't bear the fact that these girls are just being pathetic and idk why they are adjusting so fuckin much, why? I cannot. I am paying my rent (overpriced already) and living peacefully I owe nothing more than this to the unc.

Am I the asshole for not behaving the same as my flatmates here?

TL;DR house owner came to get kitchen work done and flatmates acting like their life depends on it but it doesn't and they could have easily avoided the 10 day hassle of kitchen construction work inside the house

AITAH for falling asleep in my best friend’s ex-boyfriend’s bed after he comforted me?

For context, I’m 17F, and my best friend, who we’ll call Lily (18F), recently broke up with her boyfriend, Jake (18M), in September. We’re all seniors in high school. I knew Jake before they started dating, but we were more acquaintances than actual friends since he and Lily were already friends. Sophomore year, Jake told me he had a crush on Lily, so I helped set them up. Towards the end of junior year, Jake and I became a lot closer because we had a class together.

I wanted to start this with saying that me and him are really good friends and Lily doesnt have a problem with us still being friends or hanging out. We’ve hung out outside of school plenty of times, but never one on one. Not because we were avoiding it, but because other friends always happened to tag along. Even after their breakup, I remained friends with both of them. Anyways, a few days ago, I was having a REALLY bad day. I’ve been dealing with a lot lately, and I’d just gotten into an argument with my dad. I wanted to go do something but none of my friends were free so I asked Jake if he wanted to hang out.

He told me to come over and we’d figure out what to do from there. When I got there, he immediately noticed something was wrong and asked if I was okay. And i just started sobbing because i guess that was enough to get the waterworks going. He hugged me while I cried, and I ended up staying in his arms for probably close to ten minutes. Eventually, I calmed down, but I was still pretty shaky and exhausted. He told me we didn’t have to go anywhere and that I could just lie down while he did his own thing.

Well, I ended up falling asleep in his bed for THREE HOURS. When I woke up, he’d put a blanket over me and left snacks and water next to me. He was playing games on his computer and asked if I felt better when he noticed I was awake. I said yes, and he gave me another hug. Then I checked my phone and saw that Lily had been SPAMMING me with calls and texts. Apparently, Jake had told her I was at his house because he was genuinely worried about me. He mentioned that I’d been crying, and when she asked what he’d done, he told her he’d held me while I cried and let me sleep. And she was not happy...

She said that as her best friend, I should’ve known better than to go to her ex boyfriend’s house alone, let him hold me for that long, and sleep in his bed. She said it was disrespectful regardless of whether anything romantic happened. I tried explaining that literally nothing happened between us. I was literally having a breakdown, and he was just comforting me. I’ve never had romantic feelings for Jake, and I genuinely didn’t think anything of it at the time.

But honestly, I can understand why she’s upset. Their breakup was pretty recent, and I know I’d probably feel weird if the roles were reversed. At the same time, Jake is my friend too. I didn’t go over there intending for any of that to happen, and I don’t think either of us had inappropriate intentions. Now I feel terrible because I never wanted to hurt Lily, but I also don’t know if I actually crossed a boundary or if she’s interpreting an innocent situation as something more.
