gonna start off by sayng i'm not anti procedure. i've had a lot of laser, some botox from time to time, i've even tried ultherapy and xerf. I'm not trying to do that "i don't see it girl, you're perfect!" thing. but i just wanted to share a little anecdote in case you are in one of those stare-in-the-mirror-and-wonder-wtf-happened stages of life.
I have been fixating lately on lower face laxity and undereye crepiness, and it's gotten so consuming that i spent a ton of time on reddit researching procedures, i was starting to budget for the time and money to do a series of microneedling and some tightening stuff and it was going to be a lot of money and a lot of time to commit.
and then something kinda silly happened: my baseball team started doing really well in the playoffs (go brewers!) and i just started waking up RADIANT every day. it doesn't make any sense. I've been staying up too late watching games and then being too hype to fall asleep for hours after. I've been eating junk food in front of the tv. I haven't done anything different with my skincare and I haven't booked those aesthetic consultations. But i look in the mirror and I see the face I had 5 years ago.
My only possible explanation is that the excitement of this other thing has brought back some light in my eyes, or that the running and jumping around the living room has boosted my circulation. or maybe it's just that i've spent more time watching highlight reels than reading realself reviews and I am looking at myself with kinder eyes.
I know real, true, childlike joy is so hard to come by these days, but if you are feeling down on your appearance right now, seek out a little joy in something that has nothing to do with your face. Not just like, a relaxing and peaceful activity. Real, true, giddyness and glee. maybe the cost of thermage or whatever could get you a weekend trip with your girls where you go out dancing and laugh until you cry. the way you like who you see in the mirror might surprise you.
anyway wishing you all some joy today, and wear your sunscreen!
