October 2026 Mega-Thread
October is here! Here are this month's questions:
Do you have favorite Halloween themed scent? Do you have a piece of gear that you think fits the season? What is it?
Is there a scent that reminds you of a specific fall memory?
Any favorite fall-time activities you enjoy? Apple picking? Pumpkin carving? Leaf crunching?
Anyone have any good pumpkin-based or pumpkin adjacent recipes?
Do you have a favorite film/game/book you like to revisit this time of year?
Any new items you're looking to pick up now that the Fall season is in full swing?
Do you have any favorite fall-time beverages? Spiced Cider? Pumpkin Spice Lattes? Feel free to share!
New wetshaver? This is the perfect place to ask questions.

SOTD First Fougère Friday
First shave with my first tub of MdC last night (though I've had several shaves with a sample before so I'm not totally new to the soap).
The fern-forward fragrance made for a fabulous first Fougère Friday shave. The lather was just as luxurious as I've come to expect from MdC already, though I was hoping to detect a stronger scent in the lather from the Fougère. The Soap Spoon SR1 from u/SoapSpoonAndy shaved off a beautiful bit of soap (see pic) though I had to scoop a tiny bit more because that wasn't enough. I ended up making just enough lather for my usual 3 pass shave (shallow XTG, steep XTG, ATG). No cuts/nicks, no weepers, zero razor burn/irritation, and the absolutely dreamy post shave feel that I've come to expect from this soap. This shave was a 9.5 in both comfort and closeness.
Fantastic start to my journey with my first MdC tub, which I'm sure will provide me a few hundred more shaves just like this one.

SOTD SOTD: No. 66
Pre shave: shower and Waitrose glycerin soap bar
Razor: 1953 Gillette Aristocrat No.66
Blade: Feather (3)
Brush: Yaqi Sigrada Familia 24mm synthetic
Bowl: Captains choice copper
Soap: Stirling Barbershop
Post shave: Stirling Barbershop aftershave balm
A nice relaxing and highly efficient shave with this setup this afternoon.
So much so that I probably could have gotten away with two passes and called it done, but pushed forward with a third out of habit.
Great scent from a favourite soap and balm, paired with another of Gillettes best looking and performing razors.
Hope you've all had a great week and have a great weekend ahead!

SOTD Travel kit
Today’s shave.
Traveling with only carry-on required bringing the Gilette.
Arko is a great soap and an excellent choice to bring while traveling.
It had been a while since I had to use the Gilette and I had forgotten all about how “sensationless” it is. The shave gave a good result, but the Gilette has no feeling or feedback to it. So unintentionally you end up using quite a bit of pressure and doing fair amount of extra passes and buffing.
The Stirling gives a nice scent and offsets the slightly dry post-shave feeling I get when I use Arko.

SOTD LG Day 16, Dictionary Day & a Brut FF.
* **Face Wash:** Cold Water.
* **Brush:** ZENITH- unbleached boar 28mm aluminum handle shaving brush A28 XSE.
* **Razor:** Urkunet - Assassin 1.5mm base plate.
* **Blade:** Shark - Super Stainless. (2)
* **Lather:** Extro- The End (Brut dupe).
* **Post Shave:** CeraVe- Moisturising lotion.
* **Post Shave:** Brut- original ASL.
* **Fragrance:** Brut - Original EDT.
* **Tags:** $Discord $ROTY
THEME - Dictionary Day , use a literary themed soap. My choice for today's theme is The End by Extro a soap inspired by the magnificent Brut aftershave, the soap qualifies on two counts ( 1 )it has a great cover (lid) which many a good book has and(2) it has everything every book has an end the end.
So if the judges do not consider this spoofology sufficient I will also submit the short story" The End" by Samuel Beckett a weird kinda tail about a man who finds himself homeless in older age and his coming to terms with his own demise I think he does find a home of sorts from what I remember.
Beckett was friends with another great Irish writer & poet James Joyce insert drinking buddies me thinks before he left for France before WW2 I also remember he joined the French resistance during the occupation of France .
The Brut smelling shave was most excellent the lather made was top notch and the Assassin was efficient and smooth. Brut 💚.
DAILY CHALLENGE - Marketing support create a poster or advertisement for your soap today .
Definitely no AI used for this [Extro The End Advert. ](https://imgur.com/a/2xU0gmC)
THE END.

Mail Call First Fatboy Shave
Incredible. I could just end it there. I’ve been using a T2 Rockwell for like the last year and thought I was pretty happy with it. But everyone raves on the classic Gillette razors so I’ve been keeping my eye open when I’ve been in antique stores. I found this D4 Fatboy yesterday and picked it up for 40$. Cleaned it up a little but it was already pretty good. I put a feather blade in and set it to 6. I don’t even understand how it’s so much better than my Rockwell.

Discussion Encountered my first ever dud blade
After 14ish years of DE shaving, I've finally encountered a dud blade.
Maybe the 30th/40th blade out of a 100 pack of Nacets (and not the first from the individual box), while it still cut, it dragged a bit and felt much rougher than it should have - not smooth at all.
Stupidly made the error of thinking "nah it's not the blade I just got the angle/pressure wrong" and persisted..big mistake. Neck is a lumpy, cut up mess right now and still stings a few hours later.
tldr: if you suspect a blade is a dud/doesn't feel right, just ditch the thing and put in a new one. Don't sacrifice your neck skin to make sure 😭

Discussion Parker 87r and Head Shaving
Turns out this little TTO has grown on me as I've owned it. Decided to go bald again and this sucker mowed down about 3.5mm of hair without issues. No clogs and no irritation. Only one nick because I was in a rush. If you want a good head shaver on a budget I can recommend this one wholeheartedly.

Discussion R94 safety razor
Well I just had my first shave with an r94 safety razor, it was the best shave of my life.
I’m late to the game, I’m 57 and shaved with cartridge razors my entire life so far.
A month ago I bought a cheap Amazon safety razor £25 just to see what it was like.
I liked the cheap cost of the blades but mostly the lower impact on environment than cartridge razors.
I cut myself to ribbons the first time I used it but when I got it right it was nicer to shave with than the cartridge.
I decided if I was going to stick with it I wanted something better and since it’s a one time purchase I wanted something nice.
I settled on the r94 from a German company I forget how to spell.
Well it was delivered today and I just used it for the first time.
I expected shaving with it to be the same as my cheap one just better build quality and solid steal to last forever.
I was wrong it is a dream to shave with no drag at all it’s like I’m just wiping off the foam and the hair just goes with it.
Anyway I had to tell someone I love my new razor wish I had changed years ago and you guys were the only ones I thought may be interested.

Question Amazon safety razor?
I’m traveling and just realized I forgot my razor. I’ve been using a razorock mamba for about a decade now and I love it. I use feather blades which I thankfully remembered. Any recommendations for sometging I can get in 1-2 days off amazon? Budget is 60-80 assuming its somethign ill keep and use after the trip

SOTD SOTD with Henson Al +
Razor: Henson AL +
Brush: Kent BK 12
Blade: Nacet (2)
Soap: Proraso Green cream
Splash and Fragrance: Stirling Deep Blue Sea
This is my workhorse razor: Travel, body hair, lend to the GF etc.. it just works and was able to deliver a 3 pass BBS shave today. I face lathered the Proraso Green cream after applying an almond size amount directly to my face. I think this soap is excellent as long as you build it up gradually with water and keep it hydrated throughout the shave as it can dry out. Finishing off the shave with Stirling Deep Blue Sea (Bleu de Chanel clone), can't go wrong with that scent. Very refreshing mass appealing cologne scent.

Discussion Upgrading from Edwin Jagger DE89 Astra Sup Play blades
So other than this combo I'm not experienced at other razors and blades. My hair grows normal I would say. I shave every 2-3 days and usually do a quick trim before a shave. To me this is not aggressive enough. I'm not getting as close of a shave as I would like. I use Taylor of Old Bond Street cream too
