and then the burning trash smell hits cause STEVE NEXT DOORS A DICK!!!!!

u/ABLADIN 6d ago

Hey man, I'm doing my best here. Sometimes I get behind on the garbage and I need to get a little creative with catching up.

u/SephYuyX 6d ago

I live in the boonies, no trash collector comes to me, the town that is almost 1hr away keeps their dumpsters locked up, and the nearest dump is 1.5hr away and of course has associated fees per visit and per bag or by weight.

Things either get burned, decomposed, or put in to a large pit.

Wrong subreddit for whining about Steve. Maybe Steve is going through some money issues and can't afford firewood, maybe you should go hang out with Steve and figure out a way to make his life a little better (like bag and haul is trash away or go in a on a shared dump run to dispose of items he's burning).

Someone was already burning wood in their fireplace by me this week. All I could think is it is midnight and its 78 degrees maybe wait a month.

u/edgeman83 6d ago

I loved the smell of wood smoke in the fall as a kid, but yeah, it seems like once it hits sub 70 around here they start up the wood burners and aim the smoke straight into our open windows. At least the fireplace chimneys expel the smoke above the roof.

It's 9º here.

3

u/DarkExecutor 5d ago

It was 40F last week at night here

u/InterestingThought33 6d ago

It’s one of those great scents that I’m sure you are not suppose to enjoy.

2

u/respectISnice 6d ago

Not supposed to? According to who? And why?

12

u/PinkBimboLove 5d ago

It’s air pollution.

People have been burning firewood for literally over a million years. But sure, it's "air pollution" lmao.

The smell of your house burning down. :(

1

u/Lindt_Licker 5d ago

That’s more of a choking an aerosol acid smell. I had the privilege of having a neighbor a couple houses down burn down his porch trying to deep fry a turkey. I thought our place was being chemically attacked.

5

u/SilentScreamO_O 5d ago

After the hurricane we had a lot of people burning the cut up downed trees. Smells so good outside. 🙂

4

u/rainbowkitten0528 6d ago

Or be like me and live somewhere where it’s always hot so no one ever starts fires because that would only make it worse

3

u/ostapenkoed2007 5d ago

i mean, granma visits the home 1-2 times a month. pre-burning the stove is a reasonable thing she does idk why. and it is already as low as 5C at night. plus the stove is hotter than the electric one.

Until you’ve lived in the PNW and you are used to smelling wildfires during the summer that smell like the same thing for the past 9 years. Now that’s what my brain registers it with 😶‍🌫️

u/passivecrimes 6d ago

Yep. Living in SE WA, we were under a blanket of smoke for a month and a half. Wife opened the door this evening and smelled smoke from our neighbor’s wood furnace and got worried that there was another fire nearby

8

u/cheezecake2000 6d ago

It really can be nice, I'm more inclined to the bbq smell of charcoal and maybe someone cooking some wings or steaks. I know it's wholesomememes but firewood smell just tells me there is a forest fire nearby in my part of the world

11

u/itsOkami 5d ago

Unpopular opinion but I really hate the smell of firewood, it's too strong and it gets stuck on every piece of clothing

10

u/T-MoneyAllDey 5d ago

It's an unpopular opinion in the world but it's popular on Reddit because everyone is easily overstimulated

2

u/Snackasm 6d ago

I smell the whiskey

2

u/Superb_Leg_1585 6d ago

Best I can do is white pine

2

u/muterabbit84 6d ago

It is the best. I sure wish I had a fireplace to burn firewood whenever I wanted to.

2

u/alphacreed1983 6d ago

Burning it now

2

u/newyne 5d ago

We sell a smoked old fashioned where I work, and it always smells just like that, so nice!

2

u/SaltyCogBoy 5d ago

And a little pine smoke for flavor on them hotdogs

4

u/TedDibiaseOsbourne 6d ago

y’all get a fall?

2

u/shawnshine 6d ago

And it blows in my windows and I have to turn off my window fan and close my windows and run the expensive AC instead. Hate it.

1

u/MrsSalmalin 6d ago

Jokes on you, I've been smelling it since wildfire season started in July!!

Although I feel bad enjoying the smell when I know it's wildfire.

1

u/F3nu1 5d ago

Best I can do is putrid burning trash

1

u/Jabbajunka 5d ago

Late spring in Aus and just about to light the fire in the backyard 👌 life's good.

1

u/Sinnaman_ 5d ago

How about some oak?

1

u/GrayMech 5d ago

Takes me right back to when I was a kid, out on my trampoline in the dark at like 5 pm, the smell of wood smoke in the air as I bounced around pretending to fight monsters and evil villains. Those were the days~

1

u/vpsj 5d ago

Wait, how cold is it over there that you need to burn wood to keep warm? It's still October?

1

u/respectISnice 5d ago

40°F at night currently.

1

u/vpsj 5d ago

Holy shit. It's 2 am right now here and it's 25°C (~80F?)

We don't get 4°C even during most peak winters lol

2

u/respectISnice 5d ago

That's how it was where I grew up. I hated it so I moved. Mild climates are the best imo.

1

u/BrightPerspective 5d ago

Normally, I can't relate to the se posts.

This one did it for me, though.

1

u/lukrein 5d ago

Where I live, someone in the neighborhood start up their fireplace when it was a low of 80°f. People really just like to screw up your dreams of fall lol

1

u/zandenCU 5d ago

78 degrees and my neighbor is burning wood like it's a blizzard. my clean laundry smells like a campfire now.

1

u/playr_4 5d ago

I miss the smell of fires. I live in an area where wood fires are basically illegal. Only allowed in extremely designated areas. You need to get a permit for a fire pit for your house, and can only use it if the previous 3 months had a certain amount of rainfall, which usually doesn't happen. Most in house fireplaces are gas now. Occasionally we'll get some beach bonfires, and even those are often told to be put out fairly quickly. Might all be overkill, but our state has proven to be extremely flammable over the last few decades.

1

u/RogueBand1t 5d ago

Almost compete state wide burn ban where I live. So I’ll just have to imagine it for a while longer

1

u/Cornertablejc 5d ago

Uhhhm only if you ship or do local pickup near my house 😭 Or else this is a sensory tease

1

u/KnifeKnut 5d ago

Not when is it imported all the way from Europe.

1

u/menethillsoul 1d ago

YES! Thx :)

1

u/Fortestingporpoises 6d ago

It’s been 95 degrees the last week. Ain’t no one burning firewood.

2

u/BobDaRula 5d ago

Sounds like your whole area is already on fire.

2

u/Fortestingporpoises 5d ago

That was the joke I was gonna make but California has been doing better in that area over the last few years thankfully.

2

u/Jonnyredd 5d ago

Our power went out cause the hurricane, had to keep all my reptiles warm for 36 hours. Constant hardwood fire in out fireplace.

0

u/KrustyKrabFormula_ 6d ago

yeah the whole world is 95 degrees right now

1

u/UrsaMajor7th 5d ago

Yeah, great. My pillowcases smell of smoke because of my neighbours. Now I have to keep my windows closed. Too bad; I like fall air.

1

u/KrustyKrabFormula_ 6d ago

"wow how could you? think about the environment"

1

u/BubbberDucky 5d ago

Yeah loving the cancer inducing air all throughout the winter
