Guys, we're taught from a young age to value the wrong things. Things that makes us feel shame and cut us off from our own humanity. Find stability by looking at what you value and aligning them for the greater good. Be who you needed as a kid. Trust me.

"How I imagine it feels..."
But if you are there. Good for you. I'm working on it with ernest at the moment. Some progress, but there is still alot of work to go for me.

When, in the brief moments , it actually happens, there’s so much peace.
That peace is all I wish for.

In my experience it's more of a journey and and sometimes you need a break. I've found going on a meditation retreat or taking a vacation work well but then you get back to you normal responsibilities and the break outs short lived. Recently I came across the book "Don't believe everything you think" and I've learned that I've never thought my way to happiness. It made me realize I've assumed thinking my way through problems is the correct solution. In doing so I've ignored my emotions. It's like a kid that gets ignored when they feel something and their parents don't pay attention. The don't express what they feel but will eventually express the feelings in some physical form like a violent outburst or getting sick. We cat ignore our feelings even if there isn't anything at can do to change them. Simply acknowledging you feelings is highly underrated.

It feels ridiculous to say, but being able to accurately name your emotions and tie them back to why you are feeling that way goes SUCH a long way towards that inner peace. After that, being able to separate your emotions/thoughts from your actions/acting in line with your values instead of fear-driven emotions and boom… suddenly wow… life is so much more peaceful and less of a big deal. I haven’t read “dont believe everything you think” but i can definitely say that phrase alone goes such a long way towards peace

In still haven't gotten to working on my own best interest. Any advice on that part?

I took out a bunch of really big sheets of paper and a sharpie, wrote down what I value/who i am (harsh judgements and positive things)/what do i want/what do i need/what do i have etc. i made a big ole inventory of my “shit”. I found it easier to let go of the things that weren’t in my best interest (being really hard on myself) and to accept the things that were in my best interest, even if they aren’t things I TRULY want (maybe its time for me to take my career more seriously for instance). It was a little bit like making a constitution for myself and holding myself accountable to those things especially the values section. As it pertains to the discussion above, your emotions and thoughts relate to your values. Just because you have an emotion doesnt mean you need to act on it, but you can let it inform if you need to adjust your direction. Hope that helps!

When I followed religion I had some immutable values but letting go of those ideas changed them and one of those changes led to being more forgiving. I think my values "relaxed" overall. How did you judge less but still put the effort for yourself? It seems like a positive form of motivation I'd love to learn more.

Well, that or the first time in a long time for some people as well. I relate after a year and a half of depression. Sure, I still have my bad or mediocre days (Who hasn't, right?), and even on some good days, things that piss u off or make u feel like crap happen, but since 2024, more often than not, the good outnumber the bad throughout the day, and more often than not, the good days outnumber the bad or mediocre days
