Dad says: I don’t want a dog
Dad means: I don’t want to love something so fiercely and then be abandoned by everyone, when, in about 10 years, I have to be the one to take the dog to the vet to be put down

It's amazing how much we can oppose animals, but as soon as we see them we're bonded forever.
